  1. Anybody know what happened to Ranger? He vanished like Screech Powers after Saved by The Bell ended. And please don't mention that porno he did. Happy bday, guys.
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) jumping on the announcer table after a game winner is overrated. Especially for a regular season game in which your team sucks. I can see after winning a title . Ala Jordan and his wannbe counterpart Kobe.
  3. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Maybe we should wait and see what actually occurs with the first 7 picks, (Tim Beckham, Pedro Alvarez, Eric Hosmer, Brian Matusz, Buster Posey, Kyle Skipworth, and Yonder Alonso) before we praise the White Sox for their ability to develop polished college players. Besides T. Beckham and Skipworth, you think the White Sox wouldn't like to have the other 5 players over Beckham? I'm not saying Beckham is a bad player or that I don't like his game going forward. The seven clubs before the White Sox mostly picked guys who had higher ceilings (albeit more risk and development time). The White Sox love drafting polished college players. Fine, whatever. My whole argument stemmed from this idea that farm system rankings should take into account the players who are on the big club now when really the best way to measure how well a team develops players is how many damn titles they win, and if Beckham and Sale are your crowing achievements as to why the farm system should get more credit, then we really need to rethink some things. And I thought I made it clear why Sale wasn't picked earlier, because teams didn't think he would eventually start. My whole point was that you want to praise a team for developing a pen arm. 29 other teams can do so as well. Just once I want to see this team draft a player on upside and actually develop said player. Jared Mitchell is my only hope currently... I'd say Trayce Thompson fits your criteria. He and Mitchell are the only 'spects worth following, IMO.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Calling someone that and thinking its an insult says more about you than about the person you're trying to insult. Are you serious? I'm just going to shut up. I was f***ing joking. Jesus.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) J4L, What you do is your own business. You just keep mentioning it lately, that's all. True. I guess I could be a little more discreet. Or at least keep it in the drunk thread. Anyway, back to the topic of this thread. Oney is gay.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) It's getting close to intervention time with you. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Yeah honestly, it's like 1 pm on a Thursday... lol. Oh my goodness. Will somebody show me where in the 10 commandments that it's forbidden to get drunk during the day? I'm off from work, bored as hell and I had some Whiskey. Big deal.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) I just think it's another negative incident that piles up on top of all kinds of negative incidents. I have been very supportive of Ozzie over the years, but the guy seems to think he is Tony Montana and he can do whatever the hell he wants, every one else be damned. Well, that has to change, or he needs to be somewhere else. Oh ok. Well, I'm still gonna drink. And I'm drunk as f*** right now. Too much whiskey.
  8. I know it's been slow around here. But are people really THAT concerned/bothered with this Ozzie/Oney/Jenks crap? Who cares. Let's drink.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) This reminds me of the debates about whether or not emotions effect play. Of course they do, to say otherwise is silly - these are human beings. Similarly here, I am sure it will have some effect. The real question is, how much of one? On current players or prospective ones? No one can know the answer, but I think we can all say pretty confidently that any effect won't be a positive one. Also... Oh my lord. Ouzo by itself is bad enough, but mixed with Coke? I think I'd rather drink vomit. Lightweight.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) X2 with ouzo and a Coke Damn, you're cooler than I thought.
  11. I want a Gyro, fries with extra cucumber sauce.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) KG hurt himself on a dunk FWIW. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AsEZ...celtics-garnett Don't know how long he's out. Unless he's pulling a Paul Pierce. I know KG is pretty hated these days. But that would suck if he's out for an extended period of time. That would help us. But it would also help the Heat. And they looking f***ing unstoppable right now.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) I don't think there is any chance in hell Buehrle accepts a trade to the Yankees. He seems to care more about his family and playing where he wants to play more than money. If it was about the money, we wouldn't be hearing about him retiring all the time. I agree. And I don't think the Yankees would be that enamored with Mark anyway. Much as I love the guy, I don't see Mark sporting an ERA under 5 in the AL east. The Yankees would want a younger, higher upside guy in Danks or Jackson.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) Cooper -- in a totally dick move, IMO -- mentioned on the radio today that Peavy looks great and may be ready for Spring Training. Yeah, he said Spring Training, he's probably wrong and is getting my hopes up just to have them dashed when he actually returns in June but the man did use the words "Spring Training". I don't think anyone knows when the hell he'll be back, anybody who takes a guess as to his probable return date (aside from Coop, perhaps since he's the one witnessing Peavy's throwing first hand) is talking out their ass because no pitcher has ever experienced this injury as far as I know. Thank you. It's like when the Cubs would try to minimize Wood and Prior's injuries knowing damn well they were much more serious than they were letting on. I don't care what Cooper said. I fully expect Peavy to miss at least two months.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:52 AM) Who is suggesting we dump starters for prospects? Didn't you? Danks for the Yankees package.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) Where are you getting 20+ starts from? That would mean Peavy is out until what, the all-star break? I read that Peavy could miss half of the season. Best case scenario would be early May. So maybe 15 starts then. I didn't do the math.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) Teams that invest in Dunn and Konerko and Crain don't trade dependable starters for prospects. Its counterintuitive. You dump for kids if you are going that way, you just pushed the chips in the middle of the table. And this nonsense of the patchwork 5th starter is just insane. You obviously don't remember the 5th starter by committe garbage we had with Danny Wright and company. Sale is barely removed from being drafted. Let him stretch it out a bit and learn in the pen. Lets hedge our bets on what is really there. Not some mythical unicorn sighting. This is all moot if Danks was locked up past 2012. I don't value Jackson all. I'd trade him for a young/legitimate pitching prospect last month. You know, somebody like Dan Hudson. But let me shut up before I get crazy again.
  18. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) what about harrell or torres for 5 or 6 games?? wouldnt hurt Torres is no longer with the organization and I'd choose death over Harrell.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I think Pena is good enough to be a 5th starter for 5-6 games. He pitched 4 games last year of 6 IP or more. 25 IP, 28 H, 13 ER, 6 BB, 12 K, 1 HR, 4.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 4.32 K/9, 2.16 BB/9 Those are perfectly acceptable numbers for a 5th starter. This is why short sample sizes suck. We're f***ed if Pena has to make 20+ starts.
  20. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) You pointed out that Cora had no impact on Josh Fields' game. I'm here to point out that Cora has had a huge impact on Ramirez and Beckham. Ramirez used to be a butcher with the glove. The past year he has come into his own. If you want to rip Cora for failures you can't really prove he was at the root of, then you must also accept the successes. I don't recall either attending the mythical Camp Cora last year. I give Omar a lot more credit than I would give Cora, a guy who never played SS, for the evolution of Ramirez. Beckam played a decent 2B last year. And decent is being kind. I still think he can get better. But he was hardly Roberto Alomar.
  21. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) whats the latest on oakland and beltre?? is texas still considering dhin young and signing him? Could we actually be a"mystery team"?? what other teams are out there? Braves?D-backs?Dodgers? http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/ang...tre-449297.html
  22. Ultimately, this s*** has to stop. This annoys me more than makes me angry. What other managers' son has ever caused as much friction as Oney has the last couple years? Lame. I wouldn't mind another manager in place of Ozzie. But not because his son is retarded.
  23. Looks like a foregone conclusion that Beltre will sign with the Angels. Not surprising considering he won't net a better offer no matter how god-like Boras thinks he is.
  24. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) i think this is exactly something JR would do. He wouldn't fire Ozzie (as per your analogy) but he would sit him down and tell him how to handle the problems arising from his team. Well, yeah, I don't doubt that. KHP said or else. As if ultimately he would fire Ozzie. I don't think that ever happens.
  25. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Who has the "chutzpah"? The guillens live on this crap. This did not need to come from ONEY. Why wouldn't kenny williams respond if its so important to "put Jenks in his place?" A simple tweet and more effective would have been" We are dissapointed in Bobbys comments, As he and his family knows, the Whitesox have stood behind Bobby and his family through some tough personal times. We wish him well and hope he succeeds in every aspect of life" Now that is a professional statement, Not a statement from a 25 year old loud mouth who road his daddys coat tails his whole life. Personally, I think this dedication to the guillens need to stop. They continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Fans constantly hear that the locker room is a sanctuary, where players can talk freely and air there issues, and concerns. If I am playing baseball or have any job and come home one day and my wife says she is leaving me with the kids, it will effect me and how I perform at work, and I would need the confidence of my manager to keep that sacred and understand that I will not be right for a certain period of time. Little baby guillen who stills lives off of mommy and daddy will one day need to understand this. For now he is an idiot. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) I think JR is probably the only one that would be able to do it. He seems to be the only reason KW and Ozzie got through last year together and are supposedly on the same page heading into 2011. Ozzie needs to get this s*** under control already. Even if he doesn't care about the way it makes the organization look and the way it affects confidentiality within the clubhouse, if nothing else Oney's bulls*** is making his own family look bad. 2005. The end. I can't think of another manager in any sport ever living off of one year like Ozzie has and will likely continue to.
