  1. Um, like, where has it been said that Matt Garza is available? Thread title should be changed.
  2. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) I just looked up his contract... wow. Looked like a good deal when it happened. But he's totally regressed the last couple years.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) And EVERYONE else is happy. Gage going all Bill James, Shack becoming the Grinch. Weird times around this board. I've been b****ing for the last 4 months and I'm elated right now. But where there's Adam Dunn's will, there's always a way.
  4. Something is strange when shack is the pessimist in a thread. Other than SS2K5, and nobody can touch his homerism, shack is the biggest homer on the board.
  5. Man, Kevin Love is a f***ing beast. And he's, like, white. That's not a racial remark. So please don't suspend me. I'm just not used to this. I'm glad a white dude is making his mark. 20.1 PPG/15.3 RPG in just 34 minutes? Wow. The scouts certainly dropped the ball on this guy.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) People do this all the time, for a LOT less money. People do it in the everyday working world ALL of the time, and manage to live without their cousins turning into homeless people. Don't get up in front of the fans and say "I might go and play for some other team for less money. It's not necessarily about the money." Then you and your agent try to hold us up for $15 million a year. Nice Pauly. Well for people that do that good for them. But I know I sure as hell wouldn't do it. Then again, I'm a greedy asshole that watches beheadings on-line. lol. And yes, I'm kinda buzzed.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) I feel bad for Greg Walker as he is really in a no win situation now. The White Sox line-up is potentially the best in baseball. No lineup with JP leading off can be the best in baseball. And there's just too many questions marks outside of the godly Adam Dunn. But we're better than last year. That's all one can ask.
  8. Tony Gywnn Jr. would've been a perfect 4th OF.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) What angers me is that these ballplayers who are already incredibly wealthy, and claim that their number 1 priority is to win, seem to forget about that come contract negotiation time. Couldn't the guy survive on $10 million a year so we could have signed Putz? Or some other bullpen arms? PK's demands have the potential to hamstring us a bit here, and it frustrates me to no end that the guy doesn't care about that. I'm happy the guy is back. His bat is definitely going to be needed. But I'm also going to look at him in a much different light now then I did just a week ago. lol. You know I like you. But you're pretty naive. I ain't sacrificing no coin for nobody. I can't expect anybody else to.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) Over 1 million freakin dollars a year? We'll be ok. For me it's the third guaranteed year. Not the million dollars. But I don't really care. I'm so stoked we got Dunn that we could extend Juan Pierre 5 years and I wouldn't complain (I'm lying my f***ing ass off. But you get the point).
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) People will ALWAYS complain. It's not complaining. It's showing legitimate concern for the possible long-term ramifications of the deal.
  12. Jermaine Dye's second stats from 2009 (246 PAs): .179/.293/.297. Arguably the worst defensive player in the game. Has played as much ML ball as I have the last year. And he'll be 37 soon. NO.THANK.YOU.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 03:18 AM) Just finished my last machine problem. I do hate computer engineering... What's your machine's wOBA?
  14. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 02:35 AM) Though a bit younger, most players coming off career worst performances look for some sort of rebound deal (low base + incentives) to prove themselves, similar to what Vlad got last year which I think was 1 year 6M, same thing you will see Manny get, etc. Pena is coming off a year where he hit .197 and posted an OPS of .732. For comparison even Anduw Jones posted an ops 100 points higher last year. So he had an off year in which he was suffering lingering effects from a broken hand the year before. From '07 to '09 he sported a .935 OPS. I really don't see this as a bad move. And at only 1 year? Worth the risk, IMO.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) I hate to play conspiracy theorist but the Cubs are completely rebuilding and are on the verge of shedding Ramirez, Silva's and Fukudome's contracts, as well as Dempster and Zambrano's after 2012. They aren't competing any time soon. On the other hand, we nabbed Peavy and Dunn from them. Could Hendry be doing it to f*** KW over? Paranoid much?
  16. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) He also started hitting about twice as many ground balls....it wasn't purely bad luck. Not to mention a significantly lower LD%. No way to spin Pena's year. He was bad. But he was probably still recovering from the broken hand he suffered at the end of '09. I think he should be much better next year. Not a bad move for the Cubs.
  17. Dodgers sign Tony Gwynn Jr. for $700K. I would've loved him as the 4th OF at 1-2 starts a week. He plays a pretty spectacular CF.
  18. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Score just said, via somewhere else, that the Nats are trying to sign Cliff Lee for 7 yrs/$200M. Yikes. L.M.A.O.
  19. I f***ing hate Twitter so much.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) I'm not upset with him at all if he wants to maximize his dollar value. Go play for whomever you want, PK. I'm just saying I'm not interested at anything more than $10 million a year for 2 years. I wasn't really talking about you. But I knew this was going to happen months ago. PK had a career year and he's trying to get paid. If we sign him, great. If we don't, move on.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) No matter what, I will always be grateful to have watched Paul Konerko play for the Sox. He became my favorite player when acquired by the Sox (I really liked him from his early years as a Dodger). I think it's hilarious that people are getting on Paulie for holding out for the best possible deal. He owes the White Sox nothing. This will pretty much be the last time he hits the open market. He has every right to get the most coin and put himself in a position where he and his family is happiest. I know that's what I'd be doing.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Shack, I have to return a favor here. PK14's last contract was for $60 million. Over the course of that deal, he earned $56 million in the fangraphs player value world. With all the same caveats you applied to Beltre, there you go. You've evolved. I love sabermetric Balta.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) The DBacks do have some talent on their roster. Look at last year's Padres. It doesn't take a whole lot to compete in the NL west.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) I just want some kind of info that states Lee might even be open to playing for us. Tell me about it. It's just assumed around here that Lee is a foregone conclusion if we don't sign PK.
