  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) One no hitter is not going to make or break the outlook for this team. And it's certainly not going to make KW jump up and say, "AHA! I've seen the light! We need to upgrade the offense now."
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) I am hoping for a hit, being no-hit is terribly embarrassing. I think KW will get the message even with a one hitter. Has any GM in recent memory overhauled the team right after being no-hit?
  3. I choose to give Romero some credit for being absolutely Johan Santana in his prime filthy than to obsess over the ineptitude of our offense.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) They haven't even played for a week yet. Comparing this to last season is a little over the top at this point. I wasn't doing that. I guess it seemed like it, though. The plate discipline is where I personally want to see the most improvement. And 0 BB in his first 20 AB's is not exactly encouraging.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) LOL Pods with another hit. Maybe you should create a thread and title it "The Pods hit tracker"?
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) Hello, Albert. You're lucky he acted so fast. I could've topped your offer.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Flowers (6 RBI), Danks (multiple XB hits) and CJ Retherford (4 RBI) all off to pretty good starts. Viciedo (.200) not so much, just like last season out of the gate. I see he doesn't have a single BB yet.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) That'd be f***ing stupid. What's the point of a keeper if we reset? It's five guys. I agree. A few of the guys I over-drafted (Strasburg/Chapman) was with the mindset that I'll have first dibs on them next year.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) A 1.67 is also pretty damn bad and a 1.39 is also bad for a closer. Your closer is supposed to be your best reliever, if Ozzie wasn't so damn fascinated with using Thornton against lefties so much, Matt should definitely be this team's closer. Bobby's no longer a guy you can go to every day because his stuff is so erratic. He no longer has consistent velocity and his curveball might be there 25% of the time. You just can't deal with something like that. If he keeps allowing people on base, his luck is going to run out. Alex Gonzalez was a split second away from walking us off with that foul ball he hit. He was just a bit too quick, if he wasn't, we'd all be b****ing about how bad Jenks is right now, you included. I agree with all of this except for the bold. And I really have nothing to say. Wite said basically what I was going to say. That turd face.
  10. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) hudson was untouchable tonight. I was sitting behind homeplate in Norfolk tonight and he was fooling batter after batter. i had an Orioles fan with me and he was like WTF this dude is sick. He gave up a solo shot to the first batter of the ball game but after that it was lights out....not to mention he showed some stones pitching the way he did in front of his hometown crowd tonight Good stuff to hear. But we know who our GM is.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) It's PitchFX data from http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfx/ This is outstanding. Thank you, sir.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2122232:date=Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:00 PM:name=chw42)-->QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) <!--quotec-->I'm not worried about the getting lit up part, I'm worried about his lack of velocity tonight. Good pitchers can have bad location and movement sometimes, that's no reason for concern. But the fact that he was throwing in the high 80s and topped out at 92-93 at most worries me. Peavy's delivery is one that is incredibly hard to watch and mechanically terrible. However, I think the mechanics is what gives him such good movement on his pitches, because he has such intense whip with his arm that creates movement on the ball. If he wants to pitch past his prime, he's going to have to change something or he's not going to get past age 31 or 32. Whenever you see Jake losing velocity, it might be a big indicator on something being wrong with his arm. He threw with better velocity in his first start against KC last season. I could be completely wrong, but his next start will be very, very important. AVG MAX DATE 93.27 95.7 - 3/31/08 92.88 93.6 - 4/05/08 91.72 94.6 - 4/06/09 91.93 94.1 - 4/11/09 91.75 93.8 - 9/19/09 91.64 93.4 - 9/25/09 91.21 93.3 - 10/2/09 90.77 93 - 4/7/10 89.93 91.2 - today Nice. Where did you find these numbers?
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) Pfff, are you kidding me? I suspect you think all hitters should hit 1.000. Bobby had excellent stuff and was getting squeezed. That last pitch sequence was f***ing nasty. Bobby's not going to get away with allowing multiple baserunners everytime out. No matter how nasty you think his stuff is.
  14. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) It's not called the AL, not even CLOSE. Look at his STUFF with your EYES. His slider is FLAT, and his fastball is 89mph. When his stuff is mediocre, he will BE mediocre. Seriously, watch some games when he was in San Diego, or last year when he pitched for us. Look at his STUFF compared to now. It's got NOTHING to do with AL vs NL. I'm not advocating that there isn't a skill difference between the two leagues, but his terrible outing tonight has nothing to do with THAT at all. I've seen both his starts. And obviously his stuff is not up to par. But better hitting teams are going to take advantage of that moreso than bad hitting teams. Pretty simple. And last I checked, the Blue Jays didn't just start hitting well tonight. Jake is going to see better lineups this year than at any point of his career. Does that mean he won't be good? Of course not. But 2007 Jake Peavy he will not be.
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I'm just worried that taking Jenks out of the pressure cooker will make him a terrible reliever. We all know the stereotype about Jenks in non-save situations. Bobby is going to get a pretty long rope. He has no value to this team as anything but a closer.
  16. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) This just in, Hudson is a pretty good pitcher. What's the over/under on his ETA??? 1 month? FG will determine that.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Andruw Jones ++ Teabag ++ Jenks -- Peavy -- I hope nothings wrong with Peavy I think he's fine. It's called the AL. We have no problem pointing out on this board the differences between the two leagues. If you're waiting for the Peavy from 2006/2007, you're going to be very disappointed. But I think he'll be fine.
  18. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) We need a new closer. I miss the days when I was 90-95% sure that if we were up after 8 (in this case up by 1 in the 11th) that the game was over. But I'll take the W. Awesome games from Jones/Teahen, Aside from Randy Williams, the bullpen was stellar.
  19. Braun is a beast. Other than Pujols, Utley and Hanley, it doesn't get any better in the NL.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) FanGraphs has some new defensive stats up. They're very interesting. They've now included +/-, revised Zone Rating, and some other cool stuff. What's great is that these are updated nightly, unlike UZR, which is updated weekly. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/r...-fielding-stats Some nice tidbits... This week, Rios has made two plays out of his zone. He's made all the plays that have been in there, giving him a RZR of 1.000. With all of this he has saved 1 run in center so far. Interestingly, Teahen has made 4 plays out of his zone, while he has failed to make 2 plays that are in his zone out of the 6 in total. Regardless, he has also saved 1 run on defense so far. Beckham's made 12/14 plays in his zone, he's been a neutral player at 2B on D. Konerko's 2/4 for plays in his zone. I think one of them was the hit Hafner got that Paulie failed to make a play on. Even though Alexei had a blunder yesterday, his defensive metrics are currently the best on the team. He's saved 3 runs on defense thus far, with 3 plays that were made out of the zone and a perfect 9/9 within his zone. Quentin's been a -1 DRS so far. Pierre is a 4/4 so far on balls within his zone and is a +1 DRS. I don't know what the cutoffs were for these, but I think the last time they were updated was yesterday. Anyway, these new fielding stats were available before through Bill James' site, but now they're free. They look to be great in the way that they tell you the specifics of the player. Like how many scoops a 1B made or how many bunts did so and so field well or not well. It breaks it done a lot better than UZR. However, the end result is usually the same. With this, you can dig a bit deeper, find out what players do well and not so well on and really understand the player's defensive abilities much better. I'm confused. So what's the differences between UZR and RZR? Anyway, I do love this OOZ.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Is it possible for Houston to go 0-162? Tragedy what's happened to that franchise.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) If his bat hadn't been godawful the 2nd half of last season he'd have found a job no matter his defense. If a scrub like Garret Atkins can find work then JD should be able to.
  23. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) For the Bulls, they should still tank IMO and try to get a top 3 pick. Getting pounded by the Cavs in four games is not going to do anymore good in their psyche than going home at the end of the season. Also, the Bulls have to prepare themselves for the situation of them getting no one in FA. It doesn't even have to be Turner. Hell, Turner has no spot on the squad as he's a SF and the Bulls would have to move Deng which I must say, "good luck with that one". If they get a top three pick and get Wall, Cousins, Turner, Favors, Johnson then they are in a great position. Even if the piece doesn't fit, they can still move him for a better fit. In any regard, those players are a much more valuable asset then getting roasted by the Cavs. And as a Free Agent(which I don't think we'll end up with one of the major ones) a team that barely missed the playoffs looks appealing to me with a core of: Rose, Noah, Gibson, Draft Pick, Deng, as a core than without that superstar draft pick. Rose Draft Pick FA would be the best trio since Cold Cut. And if we strike out like I think we will, two young future studs looks much better than one. The way FA is setup though, this is how I think it will play out: Wade-Stays LeBron-Stays Bosh-Goes to Miami Amare-New York Lee-New York(I don't consider him a top FA though) Johnson-Stays, but is Bulls' best chance at a star. I like your idea. But it's a pipe. That's what's so frustrating about our current situation. We're not even close to being a legitimate contender. Yet we're nowhere near one of the worst teams in the league. I was hoping we'd tank a few weeks ago. Would've given us a much better chance at getting lucky in the lottery.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) from rotoworld... A team source tells Ben Goessling of MASNSports.com haven't had any discussions with free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye "in a while." According to Goessling, the team's sabermetrics analysis found that they would be better off with a platoon of Willie Harris and Willy Taveras in right field, just because of Dye's defensive limitations. We're guessing this analysis consisted of a simple visit to Fangraphs. I said this a couple weeks ago. Sabermetrics (UZR in particular) is the worst thing that ever happened to JD. That and the fact he's apparently a very stubborn man.
  25. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Nady and Baker putting hte joy back in wrigleyville. How do teams not hit Dempster? That slider of his is nasty.
