2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) 5 SBs and no CS so far. But hey we've got Pierre! April 12, my friend. And as I'm sure you know, I've been a Pods backer for sometime. But his baserunning last year was deplorable. Combine that with the CS and defense and whatever good he did with the bat was minimized.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 07:47 AM) If anyone would have taken Harang or Arroyo for anything of value, they'd have been gone already. Especially Harang. That dude has fallen off a cliff since 2007. I actually like Arroyo. Not sure how much he gets paid. But he's an ideal 4th starter.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) There's a couple of guys here in St. Louis that could/should have won it last year who may disagree with you. Carpenter is always an injury risk, and Wainwright, as good as he is, ain't in the class of Halladay and Lincecum. Tim is just of a different species. And Roy+NL+Phillies-offense=video game. But, yeah, they'll be other guys in the conversation. I just fully expect it to come down to those two. And I also expect it to be one of the closest votings ever (provided both pitchers stay healthy).

Tim Lincecum and Roy Halladay are good at pitching. I think we're in for the most competitive CY tug-of-war in recent memory. I can say with just about 100% certainty it's going to come down to those two.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) The vaunted Cubs bullpen lost another one today. Grabow is the only one with any past history of being good and he's 0-2. The 126 million dollar man made another highlight play to keep the winning rally alive They get outstanding starts from Silva on Friday and Gorzelanny yesterday and lose both games. They desperately need to take advantage of every decent start they get from those two bums.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) Considering the situation now (and I know how supposedly tight the money is), might it have been worth spending the $1M there to shore up the back-end pitching given how dependent this lineup is going to be on a stellar starting staff? Sure we don't have the room to spend the $5M to get a real DH, but if we really are going the full pitching route, why not make sure we have the depth in the pen to make sure we're not going to blow games late, or in the case of Carrasco, we can hold on to games that got out of hand early and give our bats a chance to wake up without blowing everyone's arm for the next 3 days? In my best Ranger impersonation...either way, Carrasco wasn't going to make or break this team.

Thank God the Twins missed on Garrett Jones at least
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:59 PM) I loved Garza. Still do. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) I thought it was an amazing trade for the Rays. Still do. (and I was a big Young fan at the time but Garza was very good.. and a pitcher.) I remember being scared out of my mind at the prospects of Santana/Liriano at the top of their rotation with Garza on the way in 2006.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) Truthfully, we need our starters to do what Mark did today in a vast majority of our games or we have no chance of doing anything. Our hitting is that bad we need our starters to dominate all season. They got to go at least deep into the seventh, preferably all the way through seven, maybe 7 1/3. Then Oz can pick and choose with the lefty, ritey bulls*** leading up to Jenks. Well, that's not going to happen. Our rotation is good. But we're not getting 7 innings per start from all of them.

4/11 Games
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) He's a pitcher for Kannapolis. Well I figured that out. lol. I just was surprised that I had never heard of him. I'm pretty up to date on all our current minor leaguers (even the many scrubs that have no chance of sniffing the majors). But I had never heard of this guy until today.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) The Say Heyward Kid hit another home-run today. He has some of the quickest hands i've ever seen. And can we talk on how awesome that nickname is? I've said this probably 10 times in the last year or so, but how bad is that Feliz/Andrus for Tex trade looking right now? Could you imagine a core of Jurrjens/Hanson/Feliz/Heyward/Andrus/McCann? You don't trade premium prospects for a rental. I don't care who it is. Atlanta had basically no shot at signing him long-term. And the return they got for Tex was laughable.

Thank God the Twins missed on Garrett Jones at least
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) Back then, I had no idea how bad Delmon's defense was. With how Hawk talked about him, you'd think he was actually good. Same here. But many were pretty high on Matt Garza.

Thank God the Twins missed on Garrett Jones at least
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) there was no room for him. Last year the Twins had Span, Young, Kubel, Cuddyer, and Carlos Gomez all rotating around. I do take exception to one line form the piece: But the Twins made a trade they have since regretted, sending pitcher Matt Garza(notes) and shortstop Jason Bartlett(notes) to the Rays for outfielder Delmon Young(notes) I dont think the Twins publicly or privately (through reporters) have once said that they regret the trade. The some fans (maybe its a 50/50 split) were against it at the time (the Statheads bloggers) or have come around it regretting it (after watching Delomns god awful defense and failing away at a 1st pitch outside the zone to dribble it back to the pitcher). But the Brass, they are sticking by it. Gardy seems to like Delmon. Teammates seem to like him too. So I dont know where the writer got his info I cant believe I spent a few minutes of my life defending Delmon Young So you don't think it was a bad trade? I think it was pretty awful. I'm glad y'all made it, though.

2010 Minor League Catch-All Thread
Just saw highlights of both Strasburg/Chapman. Strasburg needs to stop it. Oh my god. I seriously think he could finish in the top 10 in the CY voting right now. Forget about the FB that regularly hits 98-100 MPH. His breaking stuff is not of this planet. Chapman was filthy as well. Although it seemed he was throwing nothing but fastballs. I'm just glad these two are in the NL.

4/11 Games
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) He needs to improve his K-rate, but you can still strike out and be a very valuable player, especially with his defense. Both Granderson and Sizemore strike out at terrible rates and great players. Both Granderson and Sizemore have 25/30 HR power. Big difference.

I went cheap in fantasy with my closers. And I'm paying dearly for it. Mike Gonzalez, Frank Francisco and Chris Perez all hate J4L.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Losing is never better than winning in this situation. Being the last lottery team isn't going to pay any benefits. Getting them in at least does something, even if it is only four games. I agree. I'm not saying I want us to lose. Go ahead and make the playoffs. But either way, not a thing changes as far as where we are as a franchise. Unless we get a premier FA, we're exactly where we were at the start of the season. In no-man's land.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Chapman went 4 1/3 innings, 0 ER, 9 K's. How long before he's called up? It's all about service time and saving money (the Braves being the only team to say "f*** it" with Heyward). Guys like Chapman, Strasburg, Posey, Alvarez and Santana have no business in the minors. They'll all be up by late May, early June.

4/11 GT: Sox vs. Twins, Buehrle vs. Blackburn
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) lol, gimme a break dude.. relax I'm really not trying to make a big deal about this. Maybe it's the 573734743743 posts around here the last week of people basically proclaiming they know better how to manage or put together a team than Ozzie/KW that made me even point that out.

4/11 GT: Sox vs. Twins, Buehrle vs. Blackburn
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Are you seriously complaining about his choice of words? I'd have probably said the same thing. I'm not complaining about anything. But "guarantee" was a poor choice of words. I don't care how many times Thome has whiffed on a curve or high FB. If Phil Jackson draws up a play for Lamar Odom to take the last shot and misses, I'm not going to say, "Man, I guarantee you Kobe would've hit that."

4/11 GT: Sox vs. Twins, Buehrle vs. Blackburn
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Ya, but you have nothing to back that point. There's a difference between guaranteeing something because we've seen it many times and guaranteeing something because you have a hunch. We've seen Thome quite a bit, and I'm with Tru on this one. He's probably a goner if you throw him a breaking ball. OK, so just say, "Yeah, I think Thome is a goner if he gives him the curve." I mean, why make a pointless guarantee after the at-bat is already over?

4/11 GT: Sox vs. Twins, Buehrle vs. Blackburn
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) ok? 'I'd be willing to guarantee Jenks K's Thome if he throws the curve." Um, OK? The at bat was over. Why make a pointless guarantee? That's like me guaranteeing Jenks would've given up a hit to the next batter if Hardy doesn't get thrown out at home.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Thank god the third base coach/Hardy bailed us out. Jenks just looks awful out there. Yup, I'll take the win. But I'm really concerned about Bobby right now.
