  1. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) And whoever made the comment about their bullpen.. completely irrelevant. Talbot has 80 through 7.1. He's going the distance. That was me. And I didn't even realize his PC was that low.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) lol, didnt we hear this last week? QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Neither is our offense... It's Friday night. Can't you guys go find something better to do if this one is over?
  3. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) i didnt look at it but i cant imagine their lineup being worse than ours right now lol It is.
  4. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) This ones done. We are now 1-3 against the f***ing Indians. Game is hardly over. Cleveland's bullpen isn't exactly stellar.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Hawk is a buffoon. The lead off walk didn't cost Mark anything. Teahen's boot did. Mark's done. Is there a human being on earth more obsessed with the lead-off walk?
  6. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) Good night now I think your 2006 "most optimistic" poster award should be revoked. You've done a complete 180 the last year.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) Awful at bats. Totally letting an awful pitcher dictate our at bats. CQ has missed on some extremely hittable pitches the last couple nights.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) You don't think Jack Z made a very silly move taking on the Bradley contract, undoing a lot of the good he'd done in 2009? At least he has a philosophy, defense/pitching first, but he obviously needs Lee for that to work...and the offense has been putrid to date. No, because he got rid of Silva's.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Cavs in 5. Thinking back to last year, that playoffs series was so huge to the growth of both Joakim and Derrick. Hopefully we can have the same sort of step forward from Taj and JJ. That is what matters to me in this series... we need to look like we are on the verge. Can you really do that when you get knocked off in the first round?
  10. A's lock up Brett Anderson through 2015. http://www.sbnation.com/2010/4/16/1426846/...act-oakland-mlb Good move. I think BB is overrated as f*** (Wite, Thunderbolt, I don't want to hear it). But the haul he got for Haren was SICK.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) You say your not respecting the Twins cause of the same number of playoff appearances as us, yet you put Tampa in the discussion whose had only 1 playoff appearance (albeit a W.S. appearance) in the last 5 years. I'm going to assume you meant Boston. I know damn well I'm respecting a team who has beaten us and the Tigers for the division (not to mention always stays competitive) in the past whose overall talent was much superior over the years. They have earned that right even with the non scare factor.. they do their thing. Not saying they are gonna win this thing, but it wouldn't shock me if they did especially with that offense and Liriano looking real good early. (still think he'll have a b****in year, ala 3.50-3.75ish, just won't be as sexy with the Ks per 9 like he used to be) Still wouldn't put it past them to acquire a SP or even a BP guy (or a 3B) by the deadline. I said I respect the Twins. But Milkman used the word "afraid." They just don't scare me like a NY or Tampa (yes, I meant Tampa) would. TB is one of the top 4 teams in baseball, IMO. If they were in the central, it'd be a wrap. I just think the Twins slurping around here is getting out of hand a little. It's like some do it intentionally just to take back-handed slaps at the Sox. I'd bet (I can't prove this obviously, as it's a hypothetical) that if we were to switch rosters with them, 90% of the board would be complaining that we have an awesome lineup and average pitching.
  12. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) How are we on Inherited Runners Scored? Their LOB% (Left on base percentage) is 82.1. That's 5th in baseball. So they're getting it done all-around.
  13. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Their bullpen is bad but Marmol has looked pretty good so far, if his control can stay consistent he can be a good closer. FYI, the Astros are terrible. If his control is up to par he can be one of the best closers in baseball. His stuff is that good.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) I don't know how you can sit there and act like you're not afraid of the team that consistently wins this division, even when they seemingly have less talent on paper. The Twins have won exactly as many division titles as we have the last 5 years. And why the hell would I be afraid of any team from the central? We're not talking NY or Tampa. I respect the Twins. They're a good team. But forgive me if I'm not conceding the division less than two weeks into the season.
  15. I think Lebron needs to save some of that tough guy talk for Orlando. Not an 8th seed.
  16. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 02:20 AM) I'd disagree. Offensively, his numbers may only have improved a little, but Ball Don't Lie said he was the BEST defensive player in the NBA this season, in terms of he was very, very hard to score against in the low post. You can credit Skiles for that, because before he was argubly a big white stiff who was too slow to play effective D. Ball Don't Lie just told a, well, lie. The best defensive player in the NBA plays C for your team.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) Yes sir. Go back to old futuresox threads. Some guys were half kidding about the odds of it (especially when KW told Gio to his face he won't be traded again) but after repeating AA in B-Ham to sexy up those numbers with that curve however, some here called it. doc, rock or ms can comment on this if they want, but supposedly the sox were already hesitant to trade Huddy this winter in a deal. (again.. not too sure on it, guys with inside knowledge can choose to comment or not) I wouldn't put it past them to do so, but I just don't see it happening unless it's for another stud young pitcher they like (ala B-Mac deal) when no pitcher (even the top prospects, though most have flopped anyway) have ever moved up 4 levels in one season, and pitched pretty well in the bigs. I can't see KW acquiring a young pitcher however in a division race (yes I think we will be in a race come the deadline) and say Freddy flops or gets injured. I think it will the usual spect that most people here except spect freaks like myself (ozzie ball, dan, jas, thunder, msfan, jpn, etc..) in the lower levels explode to the scene (ala De Los Santos) that will be hyped alot to trade (hopefully not Nate Jones for example.. though I can see it) along with say.. Flowers, Viciedo etc.. This is KW your right, but I don't see it happening, and judging by your predictions in the past makes me even more confident in mine. The bold is why I'm about 75% certain Hudson will be traded. They did the same thing with Dexter Carter last year. And the only prediction of mine recently that I can remember that flopped was me saying GB wasn't ready for The Show. So be quiet. lol. I will say my worst prediction ever was during the September fade in 2005. I said even if they somehow backed in they'd get swept by whoever they played in the ALDS (that cock face Rowand44 reminds me about that one every now and then).
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) The only player I've heard the sox really talk up and winded up trading was Chris Young. Even the great Gio, most people even here knew he wouldn't be here long. (didn't think it would be for Swisher however) I think knightni and fathom said it best in the game thread and I'll agree with their post since I've only said this to very few prospects in the past and have a decent percentage on guessing right (couple guys I flopped on were Reed [more or less my favorite spect ever, though I loved the trade for Freddy at the time], Honel, BA, Sweeney [jury still out]) sox will regret trading Hudson if they do. I'll stand by my opinion though so we'll see. Most people thought Gio would get traded a second time? I know I didn't. And KW has been saying since 2007 that at some point, if you want to have a sustained run of success, that you have to be able to "filter" in young talent from the minor leagues. I also remember him saying that he didn't want White Sox draftees to think they were only drafted to be developed and then eventually traded. Not those exact words. But he said something very similar. I bring those two instances up because KW was obviously talking out of his ass in that regard. I'd be shocked (I mean really shocked) if Hudson is here past the deadline.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 12:20 AM) As I said in the predictions thread, and in another thread, I expect Huddy to have more of an impact this year than most people realize. Now I predicted he'll take over mid-season, but I'll let people here make up their own predicitons on what month and such. I hope to hell Freddy proves me wrong and is serviceable (and no, one good start and one bad start won't sway me either way) this season. I just have a strong feeling we'll be seeing more of Hudson (who the sox brass really likes) than people think. Our GM is Kenny Williams. That trumps all. Our Brass has liked a lot of guys. I think Hudson is gone by mid-season.
  20. Yes, I know. Sample size. Yadda, yadda, yadda. But through 10 games, there hasn't been a better bullpen in baseball. White Sox bullpen rankings: ERA: 1st (1.89) BAA: 1st (.181) WHIP: 3rd (1.17) Total SO: 1st (48) K/9: 1st (12.96) What's really encouraging to me is that this is a "stuff" bullpen. Meaning the chances of it being top-notch all year are much greater than a smoke and mirrors 'pen. Even in 2005, I kept waiting for Cliff Politte, Neal Cotts and Dustin Hermanson to remember they were, um, Cliff Politte, Neal Cotts and Dustin Hermanson. Fortunately, their luck lasted all year. Other than Randy Williams and Scott Linebrink (the latter has looked real good of late), I feel pretty damn good about whoever Ozzie throws out there. Considering how volatile bullpens are, that's a very good feeling. It's early, but from top to bottom, the White Sox pitching staff is as good as it gets.
  21. My post from the gamethread.
  22. AL MVP: Alex Gonzalez NL MVP: Jorge Cantu
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) I am becoming a real big Donny Lucy fan. I think he is a lot better than Castro. Notwithstanding Freddy's crap today, I really like the way he calls a game. He seems to have a great approach at the plate. You're kidding, right? How did Donny Lucy go from awful to serviceable in three days?
  24. What the hell has gotten into Alex Gonzalez?
