Mauer wins AL MVP
After Pujols win the NL MVP, I think this might be the first time in my almost 20 years as a hardcore baseball fan that I haven't had a single issue with any of the award winners.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) You know what's far more annoying than that? Seeing people put words into other peoples' mouths and turning criticism shortcomings of other players/coaching into some dumbass "Cutler apologist" meme. Where did SSI say that Turner was to blame for Cutler missing 3 open WRs? Where did ANYONE say that? Such predictable comments. Makes me not even want to bother talking about the game actually. I was talking more in general. I don't talk Bears just at this site. I spend quite a bit of time at the main Bears message board. And don't even get me started on the post-game shows on the Score and ESPN1000. Whenever Cutler throws a pick or overthrows a WR it's because Turner put him in a s***ty position. Cutler threw almost 20 picks last year. And that was with a pro-bowl line and some pretty damn good wideouts to throw to. So it's not like Cutler had this pinpoint accuracy, ala Tom Brady, and it just completely vanished because of Turner. Again, I'm not saying you or SSI are stating that. But it's not like it's not out there.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Im not absolving him of all blame at all. he has definitely regressed, and looks totally gunshy out there. However, I feel like I am watching "how the bears destroyed Rex Grossmans career and soul, Part 2". No O line to protect him, no recievers that can go out and make a play, predictable gamecalling, putting the QB in constant 3rd and long situations, then lets restrict the quarterback and force him into being a "game manager" I know he missed those deeps balls, I am pissed about it too. I just see a guy who is totally losing confidence in what is going on around him, and that really bothers me Here's my thing...Why are people acting surprised? We knew going in this team had a below average offensive line and no legitimate wideouts. Did people really think Cutler was THAT good? That's why I was never on board with the "give 'em whatever they want for Cutler" train. With that said, I'm not saying we shouldn't have made the trade. But we're paying the price now. And without any picks in the first three rounds in next year's draft, it's going to be very difficult to address these obvious flaws. People want to run Turner out of here. I'd rather see Angelo go. Years and years of terrible drafting (in particular our 1st round picks) has killed us.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Why can't Cutler be blamed for missing 3 wide open receivers? How is that Turner's fault? As for the vanilla offense, look what happens when they try anything different. They lose big yards. Jim Miller was talking about it weeks ago. The personnel can't grasp anything that isn't simple. The Jay Cutler ass kissing is definitely getting annoying. He's no doubt been part of the problem.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) The answer is simple. Jay Cutler in Denver. Pro Bowl QB Kyle Orton here, not so good. Jay Cutler here, who the hell is this. Kyle Orton in Denver. Looks like a QB. People get better when they leave here. Rarely people get better when they come here. I've been a Bears fan since 1991. IMO, we've had one year (1995) in which we had an above average offense. It's mind-boggling how this franchise is just incapable of producing impact talent on offense. While Jay Cutler is nowhere near the caliber of guys like Manning and Brady, even they would struggle with the s***ty supporting casts we march out there every year. It's really getting tired.

Anybody see what happened to Eric Wood? That was f***in' nasty. I could barely watch the replay. And I don't consider myself the squeamish type at all.

Teahen not set at 3B? Sox keeping options open
QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) I agree, now Teahen is set at 3b. Though if Rosenthal is hearing the Sox asking around for other IF types via trade/ free agency [besides Vizquel]-which seems to be the case by the article-then it wouldn't be a non-story. Rosenthal isn't hearing anything. The article said "major league sources." There's no legitimate quote from anybody suggesting Teahen isn't set at third.

Teahen not set at 3B? Sox keeping options open
QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) All I got from that is that Teahan will be at 3B, but the Sox aren't going to pass up on something that makes sense for them, which could result in moving Teahan to a different position. I'm glad that Williams is open to all possibilites - that's the good news that I get from that piece. Pretty much. As of right now Teahen is the 3B. This is a non-story.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Depends what you mean by 'legitimate prospects'. If you mean 'do they have a shot at getting called up to the major leagues someday'... then I think the answer is yes. If you mean 'do they have a shot at sticking around in the majors in some role'... maybe. If you mean 'will they become star players'... probably not. I guess the second one is what I'm asking. Just seems to me that although they've both had terrific years, neither has the skillset to make any impact in the majors. Doesn't matter, really. KW will deal them as soon as he gets the chance.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) If i'm the Blue Jays i demand Castro, Vitters, Colvin, Cashner, and Samardizja. And if they're so inclinded i might just ask for Marmol too. I don't think the Cubs have the pieces or the motivation. They have the pieces. They don't have the money. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) I personally haven't even heard of this guy other than a couple of weeks ago even he was getting hype. IMO, he's just another overhyped Cubs prospect who will probably be kept by Hendry 3 years too long. I've read about him enough however. Yeah, it's been the last few weeks or so that all the hype has really escalated. I'm a subscriber at BA and his name is always coming up during the weekly chats. I'm not sure if he's overhyped or not. But from what I've read, he seems to have legitimate skills and a ton of upside.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 07:49 AM) Apparently everyone loves the Cubs minor league SS Starlin Castro Yup. I've been reading quite a bit about him of late. Seems to be the total package tools wise with unlimited upside. One of the guys at BA (I can't remember who) said that he believes Castro is a top 25 prospect in all of baseball.

Official: Omar Vizquel Signs with Sox
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) What would everyone think about picking up a Ryan Garko to be our right handed bat off the bench. He could play a bit at 1st, be an emergency catcher, and DH. He actually could be a real good compliment to someone like Thome. Career .887 OPS vs lefties and he's likely to get non-tendered. What would the Giants want? I believe he's arb eligible now. He'll still be pretty dirt cheap, even if he gets a substantial raise.

Official: Omar Vizquel Signs with Sox
Well I guess upon further review this would be an alright move. I checked out the metrics over at Fangraphs and Hardball Times and he can still flash some leather. Any help he could provide to the youngsters would be a bonus. He's a total liability with the bat, though.

Brandon Allen Revisited...
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) They're still very bitter about the Quentin trade...so they think they're gettin' the corn cob with any Sox trade from here on out. Well Chris Carter played a vital role in them landing one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball.

Brandon Allen Revisited...
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) There's always time for adjustments in the majors. You know that. Just because someone puts up a bad stat line in 100 AB's doesn't mean they suck. Overbay is a perfect insurance policy guy if Allen were to struggle. I'm sure that's why they were looking at him, especially if all they had to give up was Chris Snyder. I don't think that's what he meant. I think he meant that it's extremely doubtful Allen would have any impact for the Sox in 2010 if he were still here. As the OP is suggesting. The reason they (Arizona) was interested in Overbay is because they didn't think Allen was ready and wanted him to start at AAA. Not because they wanted him as an insurance policy. That's what I read anyway.

Brandon Allen Revisited...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Really, they liked T-Pain that much? I posted a bunch of quotes from the Arizona board at MLB.COM after the trade was made. They blasted the s*** out of it. Just google the Allen trade thread. They're in there somewhere.

Brandon Allen Revisited...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) Brandon fanned 40 times in just over 100 AB in the major leagues in 2009. He hit below .200 in the AZ fall league. The D-Backs were close to acquiring Lyle Overbay to play 1B in 2010. Allen is far from ready to help a major league team win anything worthwhile. Arizona fans hate the trade just as much as most White Sox fans. Anybody who wishes we still had Allen needs to realize he was simply trade bait. That's it. You can dispute what we got for him until you're blue in the face. But he had no future with the club. If you're a White Sox prospect, you're as good as gone (obviously you have exceptions like Beckham).
