  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Definitely crapped that game away, though we have 2 games coming up against Sac and Philly that we should win before a showdown with the Lakers. A showdown? lol. I'll be surprised if we don't lose by at least 15. A showdown would be the Spurs and Lakers. Dbaho, why did Dwight Howard only take 3 shots last night?
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Gonzalez is ***not*** a pipedream. He will be heavily shopped and most likely traded this winter. Whoever offers the best package of talent in the eyes of the Padres' FO will get him. The Padres have already sent out their brochures to season ticket holders, and in them there is no mention of their biggest star. Doesn't sound like a pipedream to me. He's a pipedream for us as far as I'm concerned. Not that we wouldn't have enough to pull off a deal. I think we do. But I'm not willing to pay that price. I hope KW isn't either.
  3. Typical case of a great (or in this case really good) player that can't accept the fact that he's not what he once was. I'll never say anything negative about JD that's not performance related. I just can't. I've got too much respect for the man. And he does have a point that last year's second half could've been a fluke. But for him to act like he would be insulted to DH? With the way his D has fallen off the last few years? Supreme denial at its finest.
  4. Thought WT was older. Happy b-day.
  5. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 05:27 AM) MLB Trade Rumors speculates that Joey Votto could be dealt, esp. if a team takes on a big contract like Aarong Harang or Bronson Arroyo [both making over $12 mill for 2010, then have $2 mill. buyouts in 2011]. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ My question, what would it take to get him? It would probably take a SP like Floyd / Danks and Flowers to be a starting point, and even then I don't know if the sox would have enough. Thoughts? Votto's LH bat would awful in nice at 1b until 2013 when he could become a free agent. Almost as big a pipe as Adrian Gonzalez. And MLB trade rumors speculating that a stud such as Votto could be available is no different than me speculating that I could somehow bang Ice Tea's wife Coco if I were to run into her.
  6. Anybody been paying attention to the Suns? They're all of a sudden super fun to watch again. Steve Nash, IMO, might be a top 5 PG of all-time.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) Says Ben Gordon's biggest fan. I think nitetrain is Ben Gordon. There is no other explanation. Saying Ben Gordon is as good as Joe Johnson isn't quite as ludicrous as saying BG is as good as Brandon Roy, as he did last year. But it's close. And I'm one that really like Ben. But he's not a top 10 shooting guard. 2's that are unquestionably better than Ben Gordon. Kobe Wade Roy Johnson Vince Allen Manu Martin Mayo Hamilton
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Second triple double in OSU history tonight by Evan Turner. He's good.
  9. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) True, but to be fair. . . the game dictated passing on every down basically. He was hit and hurried but if they had played as bad as they had a few games ago. . . Cutler might be hospitalized. I hate when people determine good line play by how many times the QB was sacked only. The QB doesn't have to get sacked a single time for a line to still have a bad game (though it's obviously better than your QB getting sacked 5 times).
  10. This is definitely one of those situations where you hate being right. This team had glaring holes/ weaknesses coming into this season. The basic response was " Well, if we can go 9-7 with Kyle Orton last year we can definitely do better with Jay Cutler this year."
  11. Halloween costume? If not that's pretty damn scary.
  12. Payroll aside, props to the Yankees. They were by far the best team in baseball from about mid June until now.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) The Blazers basically had to pick Oden more out of need, as they didn't really have a dominant defensive big, and Aldridge is more of a PF anyways. But OKC sure is glad Durant dropped to them now I can tell you. We beat up on PHX tonight for an easy win. Minny almost beat Boston tonight also, going down 92-90. The Celtics look awfully good right now. When Rasheed Wallace is your 6th man, you've got a squad.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) Saying its not against the rules doesn't really make sense when we're mostly suggesting that we want the rules changed. Again, that's fine. But the system is in place now. The Yankees make a s***load of loot and put it right back into the team. Isn't that what any fan of any team would want?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) You do realize that the Yankees resetting the curve for salaries has an adverse affect on the rest of baseball as they try to figure out how to keep up, and lose their players in the meantime, right? And the Yankees should care about that why? Would you care if the White Sox were the ones with the 200+ million dollar payroll? I don't have a problem with the Yankees. My beef is with baseball (I.E. we need a cap).
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) As, I recall last year they didn’t have Teixeira, Sabathia, Burnett and Swish. There’s no strategy to what the Yankee do, their resources insure competition. Money doesn’t necessarily buy championships, but (if managed somewhat competently) they insure almost totally that a team will be in the position to do so. Buying the best players is neither graceful, nor particularly shocking or impressive, it simply works. It doesn’t male what the Yankee do right, and it doesn’t make me fond of seeing them win year in and year out. I think it’s possible to win with limited resources, I just think there’s an inherent disadvantage therein. All that's fine. But with all the whining about their payroll (not singling you out. I'm talking everybody in general), you would think they were going on their 9th straight title. I just find it annoying to continually complain about their payroll. They do what they do because they can. It's not against the rules. How many times just on this board has KW been referred to as 'cheap'? Yet we all hate the Yankees because they spend more than everybody else.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Well, would you look at that. Guess you really can win by having the money and resources to buy all the talent. So why didn't they win it all last year? Or the year before that or the year before that or the year before that?
  18. Ladieees and gentlemen of soxtalk. Alll eye have to say iz i did it all for the nookiee.
  19. Happy b-day.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) Phillies show some spunk to cut it to 3-2. I can't get worked up about this series, though. The Phillies having won it last year takes a lot of drama out of it. They show their fans scared in the stands at times, but how can you feel for them. They f***ing won it last year. There's no feeling sorry or drama for Philly considering they are merely trying to win another one. I don't understand this post at all.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Not anti-Bulls, just anti the complete s*** effort they gave tonight. If healthy, Boston might be the best team in the league. Has nothing to do with giving a s*** effort. Has everything to do with one team being considerably better than you are.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) http://images.google.com/images?client=fir...l=1&start=0 Prepare to be disappointed. She was the mom on "Still Standing". That Cubs fan family show. LOL. Knight, you're a hater. That woman look good as hell for her age. I thought she was gonna look like Joyce Dewitt or something.
  23. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) It's not really a horror flick, but I always watch The Lost Boys as a guilty pleasure this time of year. I'd f*** Star until I threw up. I wonder what she looks like today?
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) It was designed with OBP standards in mind so .400 is great, .340 is about average and .300 is poor. The league average last season was .329 and has fallen around .330 for the past decade. Thanks.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) For one; the Fielding Bible is written by John Dewan, the man who developed the plus/minus system believed by many to be on equal grounds as UZR, just not as widely available, so right out the bat - no. The fielding bible awards are determined by a panel of 10 experts chosen by John Dewan using a 10 point scale (100 points possible). They use whatever criteria they see fit to determine the finest defenders at each position and given the wide range of baseball ideology at play here (Gammons and James are basically polar opposites) you're going to have very different determining factors within the panel. It's a fantastic resource that basically came about because the Gold Glove sucks and Dewan felt something needed to be done. Thank you, sir.
