The Marlins...Again!
And the Marlins whoop the Cardinals 9-0. They're 1.5 back now. Only 1 in the loss column.

8-29 Knights win and...............
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) I really think Boone needs to be called up Sept. 1st and given Neal's duties for a while. Neal just has lost it. I've been advocating to give him another shot for about a month now. I think will see something similiar to how McCarthy's season went last year.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) It's really disappointing conisdering what Cotts did last year. He was lights out! You can say that about 5 of our pitchers this year. QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) worst analogy ever...

96 wins will get you into the AL playoffs
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) Where the hell did I say that? I even gave percentages. It has never happened in the American League and only once in the National League. Given those odds I will say that 95 wins gets us in the playoffs. 3 teams in the same division will not win 95+ games. Boston and NY will not both win 95+ games. Oak and LAA will not win 95+ games. 95 wins gets us in the playoffs. It is pretty simple. So you think 3 teams from the same division will win 95 games? Do you think Boston is going to win 95 games? Do you think LAA and Oakland will both win 95 games? If you said yes to all of that then you are correct, it will take more than 95 games to get in. Just because the AL beat up on the NL does not have it make sense that it will take more than 95 games for the AL wildcard. That is nonsense. Yeah. 95 wins will do it.

Sox 2006 MVP and Cy Young Awards
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Apologies if somebody already started a similar thread... MVP: Dye - Monster season at the plate and solid defense in RF Runner-Up: Crede - A career-best at the plate and a freaking vacuum at 3B Cy Young: Jenks - 36/38 in saves... enough said Runner-Up: Contreras - Tough call since nobody else really stands out, but Jose was a bad-ass early on and has the best combination of ERA and WHIP among starters Garland should be the runner-up pitching wise. It's amazing that Jose shouldn't even be in the conversation after the first two months he had.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) Well you can also say that if our rotation starts pitching like they can, then were perfectly fine, but their not so you can't say that. Its the same with the Twins, once they start losing then you can say they're done, until then they're still even with us. The difference is our guys are underperforming. Their guys are hurt. And as shaky as our guys have been, I'll take them over Bonser, Silva, and Garza.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Leave Javy off the post-season roster and bring up some speed. Have Bmac warm in the 1st when freddy pitches. No chance in hell that would happen. I'm really concerned with Freddy's inability to hold runners at even a little league level. I really think Cecil Fielder or John Kruk could run wild on Freddy. In the regular season, you can somewhat get away with that. In the playoffs, where typically there isn't as much scoring, you can't be letting teams go 1985 Cardinals on you on the basepaths.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) A few of you are saying the Twins are done and I don't understand that. They have been the hottest team in baseball for a while and they still are winning without Liriano. You guys say not with their current rotation, but they still seem to be getting it done.... Like I said in the beginning of the year, don't forget about the Twins. Now you can't count them out until they start losing a few in a row. Well, I can see why some would say they're "done." With Radke hurting, their starting staff is well below average outside of Santana. However, they're so well managed and play the game the right away. I just don't see them fading away.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
I'll say this much: If we do make the playoffs, I want Freddy in the 'pen. I'll take my chances on Javy solving his 6th inning debacles over Sweaty Freddy Moyer and his 15 stolen bases allowed a game.

QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) Is Liriano returning? If yes, when? Oh, you did ask a question. I have no idea if/when he's coming back.

QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) Is Liriano returning? If yes, when? It doesn't really matter at this point. One, he'll be pitching out of the bullpen if he comes back. Two, it's doubtful he'll be the same pitcher if/when they move him into the rotation. It's a real risky move bringing him back at all, IMO. There's a real chance you can do some long-term damage.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) I'm pretty sure if I was a twins fan I'd be going ballistic right now I've said it once and I'll say it again: Twins. Are. Done. I. Hope. You're. Right. I don't see how you can say that, though. The Twins are like roaches. They ain't goin' nowhere.

I'm not too particularly happy about this win. I'll take it, though. This one was much, much closer than it should've been.

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) The sad thing is the back end of our pen could of used a night off. When your offense scores as many runs as we have tonight, our starters should of been able to come out, our pitchers should of been rested, and we should of been getting ready for tomorrow. This is true. Cotts and Riske let us down tonight. I won't even mention Freddy. It's pretty much a lock that he's going to give up atleast 5 ER.

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) I love when he goes the other way. He is a much better hitter. Couldn't agree more.

f***! Nice play by Upton. Still good to see Pods swinging the bat much better.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) It's kinda funny what happened to our main 3 relievers from the first 3/4 of last season Good job Gload! It's amazing how volatile relievers are. It doesn't make any sense.
-
GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
Ross Gload can swing that bat.

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Exactly. The problem isn't bringing in these guys. This is when you use your crappy relievers. However, he leaves all of his pitchers in too long. What did holding off on Thornton do? Gave TB a run, and Thronton still had to get the same amount of outs. Riske still had a 4 run lead to work with. If he can't get it done in that spot, he's the one to blame.

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) Cotts ERA in August before tonight, 8+, his WHIP post allstar break is 2.42. Pretty much you dont need an advanced sabrmetric formula to see that he is just bad. The minute he gave up the 2 run dong. You need to pull him. Immediately. So is Cotts not supposed to pitch for the rest of the year? And Riske still got torched. They both stunk tonight. Why is it so hard for some to hold the players accountable for once?

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) They're already burning up the bullpen (at least the s*** part of it). Now the tying run is at the plate in a game where the Sox scored 11 runs. That's why you bring in your better relievers to get out a bad team and finish the game. Some of you guys are ridiculous. WE HAD A 6 RUN LEAD! I don't want my best relievers pitching when we're up 6. It's not Ozzie's fault Cotts and Riske sucked.
-
GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
I'm not gonna blame Ozzie for this one. Cotts and Riske flat didn't get it done. If you can't bring them in when you're up 6, when can you?

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
I don't give a s*** what anybody says. We lose this game, we're finished.

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) If you put up 11 runs on the D-Rays, you should NEVER have to worry about the lead. Welcome to 2006. Atleast Jon is pitching tomorrow.
