  1. The baseball gods are almost trying to give us a playoff spot, and we can't take advantage. The Tigers have lost something like 15 of 21. The Twins' starting rotation is down to Santana and hot garbage. The Red Sox have been done for two weeks now. Pathetic!
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) That was thoroughly unpleasant. All around bad. Seriously, we get 6 innings and 2 runs from Vazquez and we can't win the game. How often does that happen? And one of those runs shouldn't even have scored. This team makes my head hurt.
  3. Terrible series all-around. I don't care that we won 2 of 3. We played like s***. Another golden opportunity to gain ground on the Tigers is blown. The Royals take 2/3 from the Twins and we can only gain a game on them. This team seems incapable of going on any kind of extended run. I also don't feel good at all about this upcoming series with the Royals. I actually expect us to lose 2 of 3.
  4. Bad news for the Twins. Radke will miss his next start. I'll be surprised if he's able to give them anything the rest of the season.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) With a couple of good moves the Cubs might be pretty formidable next season... but 2 things have to happen. Derek Lee has to be healthy and Mark Prior has to be able to come back for good. I have a little more faith in Prior returning than I do with Wood. A couple of good moves? Pretty formidable?
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) He was pretty similar to this in the second half of last season as well, in his defense he was pretty damn good in the first half of '05. Post AS Break of last year he put up an OBP of .326 had a K:BB of 34:13, he put up nearly a 50% SB% (15SB, 14CS) which is just deplorable and the cherry on top of that b**** would be his wretched defense and 8 RBI in the 2nd half but hey I guess that's what team MVPs do, just ask Carmon DeFalco. He only had the one horrible month (August) in which he clearly wasn't 100%. He was damn good in September. .337/.386/.404/.790. I concede he hasnt't been the same as far as stealing bases since last July.
  7. QUOTE(loltrain @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Unless the Red Sox randomly win 30 in a row and make the playoffs Dye has to be the MVP. That's if we make the playoffs.
  8. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) Where was Rivera tonight? There was no reason whatsoever to bring Rivera in for the second game.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) I'm not good with just two. How the hell can you be happy with just two?
  10. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) John Garland has gotten 16 wins pretty quietly. He has a very good chance at 20 wins. If Halladay or Santana falter, it will be difficult to not discuss Cy Young consideration DESPITE his god-awful ERA. He needs to bring that ERA down to 3.6 or so and then he has a shot. Garland has 6 more starts to do it. Would people just forget about the damn Cy Young already. He's not gonna sniff it. He would have to throw 4 complete game shut-outs to get his era that low. I just want him to lead us to the playoffs.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Id rather see Pablo, Mackowiak, Gload, Sweeney, or Fields in LF the rest of the season over Pods.... hell Ill even take Owens. I never want to see that bum starting again. That was a brutal performance. You would think Pods was up against prime Pedro the way he looked tonight.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) Only thing that sucks is that he's just playing himself into a bigger contract once he does become a FA. How awful.
  13. I don't see how he doesn't get the MVP if we make the playoffs.
  14. QUOTE(Wedge @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) I missed the game... so what did Pods do? Pods made me miss D'Angelo Jimenez tonight.
  15. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) Feels good to get a bit of some breathing room v. the Twinkies. I have to LMAO when we come into this week down .5 and the Twinkies hosting KC and now we lead htem by 1.5 Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is an embarassment. The way they play is embarassing. Its not that they are just a bad team, its that they play sorry, pisspoor fundamental baseball. Oh well, helps us tonight. Breathing room? This is a team that blew a 6-game lead for the WC in a matter of two weeks following the all-star break.
  16. Dear Mods: If I ever attempt to defend Podsednik again, please ban me. His performance tonight was inexcusable, disgraceful, despicable, deplorable and a bunch of other big words that I don't feel like spelling.
  17. QUOTE(MEANS @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) we always make it interesting, way to pitch tonight Jon, even without your best stuff. He's evolved so much the last two years. I didn't think he would make it past the 4th inning tonight.
  18. Biggest win of the year. A loss would've been beyond pathetic. Gooch! Dye! Thome! Garland! Podsednik! (no green needed for this one)
  19. Tigers have now lost 14 of their last 20 games. It's a shame we crapped our pants after sweeping them a few weeks back. We could be 1 or 2 out or even tied with them right now.
  20. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) please lord, make oakland cool off before we meet them next month. You're worried about Oakland? One game at a time, my friend.
  21. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:14 AM) The Legend wasn't ready the first time around, this time though i'm hoping he can dominate. Remember the game against the tribe on may second, where he went 2.1 struck out 5 and just one BB; that was awesome. Hes been great down at AAA and i hope he can continue his sucess at the bigs. That game was enough to show me that Boone could hang at the major league level. He just made those Indians hitters look silly. He just needed some more seasoning/experience.
  22. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) Brian is a likeable player cause of his defense. Don't you all agree we could use an upgrade, though, at ss next year? Of course Juan could get hot in the postseason if we make it that far and emerge as a hero again, but as of now, he's a bit annoying with his average THAT low I think. Juan will never, ever hit for average. His crazy swing and plate discipline will never allow it. However, his HR/RBI numbers are more than adequate enough for a SS/#8 hitter. And there's his defense, of course. Even with the stupid mental mistakes he makes, he's without a doubt at worst a top 3 defensive SS in all of baseball. He's got a more than affordable contract, too. We're fine with Juan.
  23. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) I didn't get to watch it. Did Cora send a guy again who got thrown out by a mile? I agree he should be demoted now if that's the case ... again. I mean we all want runners to score on hits but geez our team has a bunch of plodders. Hold 'em at third. Yes, he did. Konerko was out by two miles, actually.
  24. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Brian Anderson's average, .231 Juan Uribe's average, .239 Stay Tuned. Juan is 1 for his last 17. No shock there. He's probably the streakiest hitter in baseball. He'll level out at around .245-.250. I say Brian will hit .240ish. Not bad at all considering how he started.
