AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) There aren't many things that the Sox NEED. Not one of our hitters is so essential that someone else can't pick up the slack. But I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this team NEEDS Mark Buehrle down the stretch and into the postseason, if we are to have any hope of winning another WS. Great game, Mark. Well played all around. Now rest, if you remember how, and get after it again on Tuesday. Also, J4l, I wouldn't read too much into the length of the winner thread. A winner thread last night would have been much longer. Late & tight games always get the biggest reaction. Plus, it's usually quiet here on Sunday nights, tomorrow is an off-day, etc. This is true about Sunday, Jackie. However, I've noticed over the last couple weeks that a White Sox loser thread fills up much, much quicker than a White Sox winner thread. Anyway, it's not that big a deal.

ST Poll: Which Sox starter, excluding Garland..
I think it's Jose. He's the closest thing to an 'ace' this team has. When he was right, only Johan Santana was better, IMO. Jose gave you that 'game over' feeling whenever he took the mound. He was that good. We need him to get back to that, and soon.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
Oh, yeah, Brian's BA is up to .231.

Lack of Widger Hurting Team
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) C'mon, Widger sucks. The unfortunate thing about letting him go was replacing him with someone who sucks just as much, if not more. I know Widger sucked as far as hitting goes. But he was blamed everytime one of our starters threw a crappy ballgame. Well, he's been gone for a while, and our starters still suck (save Garland).

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
Geez, it takes about 5 minutes for a White Sox loser thread to get to about 10 pages. Where the hell is everybody? This was the biggest win of the season. We could not get swept by these clowns again. Gutsy performance by Mark Buehrle today. And who was that guy out there for the Sox today? The white dude who wears #22? I didn't recognize him at all.

Lack of Widger Hurting Team
Kenny, Ozzie, Coop and this entire board owes Chris Widger an apology.

Would you unconditionally support this team if it led to a title every
QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) First of all, let me preface that I'm rooting for this team to repeat and definitely feel that they are capable of doing so......however, MLB has had 6 different World Series champs in the last 6 years. Your point? We didn't rape our farm system and add 20+ million dollars to the payroll to miss the playoffs. Last year was great. It was amazing. I'll carry it with me until I'm dead. That doesn't mean that I have to settle for less from this point on. I agree with this. I love Kenny. He's been just about as perfect as a GM could be for the last 3 years (save the Javy trade). Ozzie? I think he's a very good manager. He's just a little too stubborn for his own good. Quit the organization? Who the hell is sayin' that? Have I missed something? I'd quit breathing before I quit the White Sox. I'm sure most from this site feel the same. You must be talking about the bandwagoners. That's why they're bandwagoners. The real fans aren't going anywhere. Again, who exactly are you talking about? The bandwagoners aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Last year's title is still fresh in everyone's mind. And even if they do -- so what! Again, the fanbase isn't gonna vanish after the season -- no matter what happens the rest of the way. I won't. And I have little to no confidence in this team right now. I don't know how anybody could.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) To say Brian Anderson is not an everday cf is a joke. EDIT: By the way, I personally can not wait till Ozzie is gone. Oh snaps. You knows it's bad when Rowand wishes Ozzie would vanish.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) BA has been a better hitter since the break than Mack has. Without even discussing the obvious defensive difference. BA since the break: .293/.336/.455/.791 Mack since the break: .291/.339/.418/.757 And like you said, that's not even getting into the fact that Brian is one of the top two or three defensive CFs in baseball. And Mack, well, isn't.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) Because, Willie Harris, Brian Anderson is no Mickey Mantle. Brian Anderson is a nice defensive player. Brian Anderson is an average ballplayer. He likes Mack. KW is the one who acquired Mack, not Ozzie. I respect all your opinions, but I do not share the Brian ANderson love. I do not like Mack much either but geez, BA is not an everyday player. If he was he'd be hitting about .180. I think our roster was much better a year ago. Brian is hitting right at or over .300 for almost two months now. Why shouldn't be be in CF everyday? I could understand it back in April/May when he looked like this guy named Scott Podsednik at the plate. Our pitching sucks. One of the ways to neutralize our s***ty pitching is to play great defense. You can't do that with Mack in center. Period.

McCarthy must be inserted into the rotation...
I don't even care anymore if they move Brandon into the rotation or not. Unless we can clone him 4 times, it won't mean anything anyway. This starting rotation (outside of Garland) has been despicable.

Owens Called Up; Placed on DL per Trib
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) One can only hope we see a Pods/Pablo-Owens/Mack-Gload outfield yet this season. It's certainly possible with Ozzie. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:35 AM) If your a true baseball fan wihich I doubt you even ever palyed the game, How can you say Guillen did a great Job. He didn't have to make any decIsions. Every starter went 9 innings so what did Ozzie do? Not a damn thing. I am so sick and tird of all these ozzie apologists who think this guy came in and miraculously won the world series. That's a joke to think that. Obviously, you never played a organized sport in your life, unless you consider gymnastics a competitive sport. Were you one of those guys that nailed the parallel bars for a ten!!! Cause you sur ehte hell didn't play Baseball!!! Dude, you don't win a World Series title with crappy managing. Ozzie was brilliant most of last year -- especially in the playoffs.

Owens Called Up; Placed on DL per Trib
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Guillen did a great job and the Sox won the World Series as a true team. You offend me, pal. I hope you are banned. I agree with everything you said here. However, Ozzie has done a very poor job this year.

I can't take it anymore...
This is the worst 21 games over .500 team I've ever seen.

And that's a white sox loser
QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) It's amazing and i never thought i'd say it but he's surpassed hawk harrelson as the biggest kiss ass turn a blind eye to the white sox employee Lay off of Hawk. He's been right on the money with his comments on this team all year. He's called out just about everybody on this team that deserves to be called out. I heard on the radio that we're 19-25 since we were a season high 27 games over .500. So it would be easy to say our struggles started that last series with Boston before the break. In reality, our struggles started well before that. Even when we were winning, we weren't playing good baseball. We were just out-slugging everybody (mainly NL rejects). We were pulling games out our asses left and right. Yeah, that was all fine and dandy at the time. But the warning signs were most certainly there. It's the Jerry Manuel era all over again.

**8/26 Game Thread! SOX vs. twins
If this team has any kind of self-respect they'll win this one tonight. You can only get molested by the same pitcher so many times.

Why can't real fans be negative
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Eh, to me if this team doesnt win it all then this year is a big disappointment(so it's going to be). This team was built to win it all and definitely has the talent to do so. Problem is that our starting rotation stinks in comparison to what it was supposed to be and many other teams around the league. I really don't care how good the al is as a whole, anything less than a World Championship is a huge disappointment, at least imo. ^^^ What's wrong with having high expectations of this team for once? I'm sick of the second place attitude of "Well, it just wasn't meant to be this year. They still had a decent season. Will get 'em next year." f*** that s***! This team was put together to win another title. Not to finish in second or third place and watch considerably lesser talented teams play in October. We went from one of the best farm systems to one of the worst in one year. Why? Because we sacraficed all that to WIN NOW. We added 20+ million dollars to the payroll. Why? To WIN NOW! There will be no sugar-coating if we fail this year. If we fail to make the playoffs, it will go down as one of the biggest, most epic choke jobs in Chicago sports history.

Why can't real fans be negative
QUOTE(BainesRules @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 03:18 AM) A lot of fans on here seem to think if you're negative, you're not a real fan. Well guess what, I am a bigger fan than almost any of you, and I am 100% positive this team will finish in 3rd place and out of the playoffs. You know what they say about assumption, right? 100% positive they'll finish in 3rd place? Well lucky you. You can stop watching the games now. Since you're a psychic and all. Might want to atleast wait until we're elminated to make such a bold claim. I'll concede that his team has been frustrating beyond comprehension. It would be an epic disaster if a team with this level of talent failed to atleast make the playoffs. 20+ million dollars was added to the payroll with one goal in mind: to win it all again. Again, since you're a psychic, and it's a lock that we're gonna finish 2nd and 3rd for the next few years -- do yourself a favor and find a new team to root for. Why put yourself through the torture? I agree with most of your points here. I think bandwagoners are the scum of the earth. But they're valuable scum. However, I don't think they're all gonna vanish if we fail this year. The championship is still rather fresh. Will be able to milk it for atleast a few years, IMO. Although we were able to beat teams in a variety of ways last year, we still relied heavily on the HR. The starting pitching and Scott Podsednik are by far and away the two main reasons why this team isn't as good as last year's. Not because we have too many power hitters. I agree that this team has been lackadaisical and flat most of the year. That's unacceptable for a defending champion.

Sox fall to Twins again
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe if these guys have to sit home after winning it all last year, they'll get hungry again and will it all next year. Excuse me while I barf.

Sox fall to Twins again
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) I get pissed the most with what happens on 2 strikes. A twins batter shortens their stroke up, and tries to make contact, hitting the ball back up the middle or to the opposite field. It has 3 effects, one it raises the pitch count. the more pitches a pitcher throws the more likley they are to make a mistake, and with the ball in plate it has a chance to be fair and for a hit. A Whitesox player with 2 strikes, swing as hard as you can, turn lift and pull. If the ball isnt in your area, take it. Better to walk back to the dugout and prepare for your next homer. No argument here. I haven't liked our approach at the plate as much since the break. There's really nothing to like about this team outside of Dye and Garland.

Walker Has Got to Go!
I have not one complaint with Greg Walker this year. Ozzie Guillen? Yes. Joey Cora? Yes. Don Cooper? Yes. Greg Walker? Hell no!
-
Sox fall to Twins again
Everything I was gonna say has already been said. Let me just add this: the Twins are a better 'baseball' team than we are. Are we more talented? Without a doubt. Can we hit more HRs? Duh. Besides that, they're better than us in every single aspect of baseball. It's not even close.

Bobby Abreu
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) But w/ Derrek Lee, he hadn't healed completly when he came back the first time. You don't miss as much time as those two guys have missed and come back the same right off the bat. Sheffield has been out since May 29th. Matsui has been out since May 11th. So you're talkin' 3, 3 1/2 months of missed time. And there still is no exact date to when these two will be back. You can pretty much stick a fork in them for this season.

8/24 Games
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 02:11 AM) Egbert with another pretty strong outing for B-Ham, and BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE (54 k's and 12 bb in 40.2 IP at AAA) with a perfect 9th and 2 k's for the save at Charlotte. Nice. He's been nothing short of dominant since he was sent down.
