  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) My gawd, I love Frank as well but Thome hit the game tying homer tonight? He's been playing hurt. Thome ain't our problem ain't even close to being a problem. p.s. Flame me all you want, but Aaron Guiel might have been a nice pickup if KW and Oz felt they needed to platoon with BA. So does Jenks suck now? Afterall, he blew a pivotal game tonight.
  2. Can we please abolish this thread? It makes me want to barf when I think about this trade. Young/Anderson patrolling LF/C for the next 10 years? QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) There should be no next season for Vazquez he needs to go. Unless from here on out every start he is good, he should not be here next season. Vazquez has been one of the worse things to happen to this team. Also, don't give me the "he has the stuff" BS because he sucks. Javy isn't going anywhere. Kenny is not gonna dump him after one below average year -- not after trading one of the best prospects in baseball -- a prospect that's tearing it up right now.
  3. QUOTE(jkrem32 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) I agree and now we can sit back and wait for KW's new book--"How to Build and Tear Down a World Champion" I won't go that far. I still put about 95% of this team's failures on Ozzie, the coaching staff and the players. It's just that Young trade hurts. It really hurts.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I've said it a 1000 times, the Vazquez trade will be KW's worst ever. He can't do much worse. A lot of people point to Vazquez's record, but his record is crap considering he has had the lead in all but 2 starts, and sometimes he had the lead 3 times in the same game. I never liked the trade from the beginning. I just knew where Kenny was coming from. So I accepted it (like I had a choice). I figured if he (Javy) could win 15+games, 4.00-4.25 era, 200 or so K's, and, of course, we get into the playoffs -- it would be worth it. I think it's safe to say it wasn't worth it.
  5. I really, really, really, really miss Gio Gonzalez, Daniel Haigwood, Tyler Lumsden, and Chris Young right now. Yes, I know hindsight is 20/20. I had no problem trading these guys (save Young) at the time. I was all for winning right now. But with it looking more and more with each passing day that we're gonna be watching the playoffs come October, it's safe to say we traded away a big chunk of our future for nothing.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) We have three good relievers. The rest of them are a crapshoot, and can't be trusted in close games. ^^^ Brandon has been hit or miss all year. Riske has been blah. Cotts? No comment.
  7. QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Brian Anderson - Future all-star. Book it!! Fixed. I know Brian had a bad game tonight. Still doesn't take away from the fact he's swung the bat very well for close to 3 months now.
  8. The loss tonight didn't even bother me that much (well, it did. Just not like previous losses have). I have just about accepted the fact that we just don't have 'it' this year. We've been brutal since that series with the Red Sox before the all-star break. This team just lost 'it' at that point. Every team goes through a funk every now and then. But this is well beyond a 1 or 2 week funk. This team has so many problems right now. I don't have to name them. We all know. I guess '05 was indeed just one of those magical seasons that come along once every 50 years or so. Will never be like the Yankees/A's/Braves/Red Sox. Teams that put themselves in position to contend every year. We've molested our farm system. Every team in our division (save the Royals) has potentially dominant starting pitchers on the cusp or on the way. This is shaping up to be a pathetic end to what was once such a promising season.
  9. QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) We're just lucky Liriano and Radke aren't healthy. Fixed. That's the only reason they're not atleast 5 games up on us.
  10. We would've heard something by now. And like Like Kalapse said, no way we would give up a second rounder for him.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) Help me out here. You are saying McDougal, Thornton, Riske and Cotts have been good? If I am out of line, lemme know. I consider none of those four guys reliable. Thornton and McDougal have been REAL good. Riske has been blah. Cotts has been horses*** since August 1.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) People are gonna miss Hawk when he's gone, that's for sure. You never know what you have until it's gone. I can't imagine White Sox baseball without Hawk.
  13. We all knew a Detroit slump was coming. I guess we forgot the White Sox would have to look like a major league team at the same time of the slump to overtake the Tigers. Sad.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) It would sure be freaking sweet to see someone actually hit 60 without being dogged by accusation and inflation. Unfortunately, guys like Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire have made that impossible.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Good, I disagree with fathom again. It's been far too long. There are approximately two guys on this team that are untouchable. They're both in your sig. And, no, one of them is not Ross Gload.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) STILL IN FIRST PLACE IN THE WILD CARD!!!!!!!!!!! How comforting.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) This was the first game I've watched with my brother in a long time, and he said this after a terrible AJP bat in the 5th or 6th "WE'RE AWFUL!" It's sad to say, but it's true. We had to get lucky to win 3 out of 6 against the Royals and DRays. It's amazing to me how good the AL is this year. This is the first time in years that I've actually feared the Royals and D-rays. If either could ever find some decent arms (D-rays got lucky with Kazmir), they'll both be real good.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) This team just isn't that good. That simple. When you add that to having an absolute horrid manager, well these are the results. Too late, Rowand. I said this team wasn't that good two weeks ago. I beat you.
  19. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) If we raped our farm system and got very little to show for it, then that's bad managment. That Javier Vazquez sucks balls isn't Ozzie's fault. That Vazquez is on the team isn't Ozzie's fault, either. It's easy to criticize now. I get that. But I totally get where Kenny was coming from before the season. We had a pitching staff that pitched a s*** load of innings in 2005. He wanted another 'proven' arm in there. And how is Ozzie not at fault for the way he's used Javy at times?
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) This isn't a disaster of a season. A disaster would have been a 70-92 season, and drawing nothing during the 2nd half of the year. At least with being competitive this whole season, our attendance is great and should equate to a high payroll next year. If we don't get into the playoffs, this year is a disaster. Period.
  21. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) When we won last year, Ozzie got credit, but so did the players and KW. If we don't win this year, Ozzie can't be the only one blamed. Blame has to be spread around, imo. Of course. Well, I still can't put any legitimate blame on Kenny. How many times over the years have we as Sox fans gotten on Jerry or whoever was our GM of the time for not spending any money? Well, they added 20+ million to the payroll. Our farm system was raped with the idea of winning a second straight title. I feel they've done their part. Ozzie, the coaching staff and the players are to blame for what's looking like a disaster of a season.
  22. QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) you should not give up 5 er in 7 innings to the worst team in baseball... period He's given up atleast that many in like 9 of his last 12 or 13 starts.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) While Ozzie is not a great manager, I would like to make a list of players I would like to see wearing different uniforms next year. 1) Pods 2) Freddy Garcia 3) Juan Uribe 4) Neil Cotts 5) Javy Vazquez *** Joey Cora would be #3 except he does not count as a player. Surprisingly, I want Javy back. He's shown me enough in the last month that I think he could rebound next year. I don't want Uribe and Cotts gone, either. Pods and Garcia? See ya!
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) He has no idea how to manage these players. His inability to put guys like Garcia, Vazquez, Mackowiak, Thome, Anderson, and Gload in the best position to succeed is sickening. You forgot about McCarthy.
  25. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) i hate how everyone loves to blame ozzie(the other coaches) when we lose. lets just blame it all on them because the players su.ck a.ss and are underacheiving. They definitely deserve some of the blame.
