  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) So am I the only one who won't watch a single game of the playoffs this year? No way, man. I'm still a baseball fan first. I'm an A's fan this October. I want to see Frank get another ring.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) Comparisons are unjust in the department, obviously. For me, it's to a point where you look at this future rotation against division rivals and wonder how we're going to compete. Tigers throw out -- Miller, Bonderman, Verlander in 08' Twins throw out -- Garza, Santana, Liriano in 08' How do we match this? We may potentially face these pitchers more than 15 times a season. It will come to a point where blue chip SP prospects better emerge, or quality starters better be acquired via trade/FA signing, if we want ANY chance of competing in the next several seasons. Now, any of you can point out Liriano's injury problems, but I'd rather assume he'll be available and do our best to compensate for his value. Oh god. I actually agree with Tizzle for once regarding prospects. This night is just getting worse and worse.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Someone check the in or out thread. Damn, Rowand. I just read your sig. I feel better. College hoops is near. And SIU is gonna be garbage.
  4. Thank god for Soxtalk. I couldn't imagine suffering through this tragedy of a season alone. I love all of you. And I'm not gay.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Meant Liriano, sorry. OK then. You're right. I still don't want him traded.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) This isn't meant for you, but people have to stop comparing McCarthy to guys like Santana, Verlander, etc. Santana? Who the hell ever did that? They should be banned immediately.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I wish the Twins would have taken this approach with Santana. We would be so done for the next 5 years if Liriano wasn't destined to be the next Wood/Prior.
  8. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) TRADE bmac before he loses ALL trade value Naw. He's been really, really, really bad of late. But he was put in a position to fail from the start. Besides, we need cheap, talented starters to counter the Tigers/Twins/Indians.
  9. I wouldn't mind seeing Gio Gonzalez, Daniel Haigwood or Tyler Lumsden getting a start or two. Maybe give Chris Young a shot in the OF? Oops.
  10. QUOTE(Hollywood_AU @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) I'm with you...and give McCarthy a start or two. Then he can show us how much better than Soriano he is Give him a start now? What's the point? And he's sucked really, really bad for a while now.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) I have no problem at all with this idea. The starters have thrown in the towel so we might as well let the kids play. On a some what similar note, I hope everyone who goes to games from here on out boos this team like crazy. I'm usually not a big fan of booing players a ton but these guys deserved to be booed out of the park. Can I throw things?
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) That would be sweet. Take Batting Practice Buerhle with him. Opponents hit the ball very hard against Buerhle these days. He's either hurt or washed up. I've been a Buehrle backer for years. I'll always love him. However, he's failed us miserably in the second half.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) the sox downfall was not using their system. The twins and tigers have used their minor leagues to fill in holes and extert energy. BA, sweeney and now fields should have been used all alone over Mack, Ozuna, Pods etc.etc.... We did use it. It got us Thome, Javy and Macdougal.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Nope...even you saw this brewing a while ago. It's easier to take now, as I haven't been convinced ONCE during the 2nd half that we were a playoff team. You're right. I did see it. I just hoped/expected them to snap out of it. They're goin' out like b****es.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Meh, It's been a pretty easy slide, nothing too sudden so it's a lot easier to accept. I just can't accept this. Even the '04 Cubs, a team that I thought was loaded, could play the injury card. What's this team's excuse?
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) Kenny Rogers sure looked good for a guy who supposedly can't pitch in the second half of a season. Someone forgot to inform White Sox hitters of this. I give Kenny props. He's had a nice second half.
  17. Anybody seriously depressed? I mean for real. I don't even feel like going to work tomorrow (then again I never do).
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Am I allowed to still keep my 2005 WS DVD? Yes.
  19. Well, it was nice saying 'World Champion White Sox' for a little while.
  20. Most embarrassing White Sox team ever.
  21. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) September Stats Frank Thomas: 61 AB, 10 HR, 26 RBI Dye/Thome/Konerko: 161 AB, 9 HR, 29 RBI That's pathetic.
  22. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) I'm not entirely surprised that the Sox faded in the 2nd half. They've done this every year since 2000, if I recall correctly. (Except for 2003, as the post above me reminded me) I don't know why that is exactly, but it always happens. It's just more disappointing this year because of the higher expectations. And this has not been the worst Sox season I can remember, not even close. The first half was amazing, the second half heartbreaking. Being at USCF on Ring Day guaranteed that this could NEVER be the worst Sox season in memory. I have to respectfully disagree. This season is the worst ever in my 16 years as a Sox fan. I remember not being able to sleep at night during the offseason because I was so damn excited about this year's team. Every aspect of this team was upgraded from 2005. How could anyone not be hype? This team was in prime position to do what many others before them failed to do. Repeat. And we won't even get the chance to do that. 3rd place for a team with this level of talent is simply pathetic. I never in a million years thought there would be no playoff baseball in Chicago come October. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I believe it was you that said it best before...this year would have been immensely heart-breaking if we had not won a championship last year. And just to be clear, I do find this year's collapse saddening, just not at the level some people are making it out to be. It ain't easy to repeat, and the pre-season favorite usually doesn't go all the way... All I wanted was a chance. I realize how hard it is to repeat. I just wanted to see this team make it to the playoffs. This season has been a complete bust.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) I enjoyed a lot of games in 1998 and 2000 and 2001 oh and 2003 HEY! I've enjoyed games every single season since I've been watching baseball. Just because I enjoyed a bunch of games this season doesn't mean this year is any less disappointing, infuriating or confusing. Disgusting = prolific/awesome Ahhh, he thought I meant our talent was mediocre.
  24. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Um, I beg to differ on that. I do agree with you however we underachieved. No doubt. But cmon. Are you serious? What's not to like about this team on paper? It's not all on Ozzie, but he's done a HORRIBLE job managing this particular team this year. I can think of atleast 15 other managers that would easily have this team in the playoffs.
  25. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) You want to know about more disappointing seasons? Ones where we were out of it in early summer! I've been a sox fan my whole lilfe and 20 games over .500 is NOT nearly the worst season I've gone through. There were some great games to enjoy this season. I remember one game where it looked like we still had the magic of a year ago when I believe it was Iguchi hit a bomb on a sunday night game. The four of six versus the Cubs were good. We had a lot of great wins. Only one team can win it all. This season unraveled unfortunately when we were keeping within striking distance of Detroit, a team that just would not lose a series except when they played us. Then we finally had a s***ty week and the Tigers kept winning and upped their lead on us to 8 games or whatever. We lost the magic and it was time to start blaming whomever you wanted to: Oz, Pods, bullpen, KW, everybody had their favorites. Oz mostly. If you want I'll go through the list of Sox seasons year by year and tell you ones much worse for me, but I don't feel like doing that now. and yes I've watched the Royals, a once proud franchise be out of it before the All Star break for the last 10 years now. If we are in "contention" all year I don't consider it a wasted season to be a fan. There were some great games this year. We just don't have what it takes to get in the playoffs. Baseball is a great sport and I'll be sad when there are no more games to play in a couple weeks. 100 million dollar payroll. Complete gutage (I know that's not a word. You know what I'm saying, though) of the farm system. Disgusting talent from top to bottom. And all you get is a 3rd place team? This season will go down as one of the most pathetic in White Sox history.
