QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) I never said he would re-sign with the Sox. I never even implied the Sox would try. Any way you look at it one of the five current starters has to get the ole boot out of town to put McCarthy in the rotation in '07. I could care less what happens to Josh Fields or Lance Broadway in 3 or 4 years, what I know now is that they aren't doing spiff for the Sox. If they really want to trade Vazquez, they'll do it in the off-season when it makes more sense. There's nobody out there they can realistically get that's better than Javy now. I have no idea what you're talking about here.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Who are you, Ron Schuler? The season is at a breaking point, it can either go up or down. As it looks, it's going down. So why not make a move that'll help it go up as well as get rid of a pitcher that not only isn't wanted this season, but next year too. And give up top prospects as well? It's not happening. Zito is not gonna sign with us. There's no use even talking about it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) We could have gotten Soriano if we offered Fields, Broadway, and another prospect. Also, if money isn't an issue like he said it was, then we don't need McCarthy. Ahh, so you were being sarcastic?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) If it's not an issue, then we really screwed up in not trading for and re-signing Soriano. How do you figure that? They wanted McCarthy.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Ummm... it happens plenty of times. See the Garcia trade. Garcia and Ozzie are practically father and son. There wasn't much doubt that we would be able to extend him. His agent wasn't Scott Boras, either. Not a good comparison. The market for pitching has gotten out of control the last 5 years. Somebody is gonna offer him more money at more years than we would. I can almost guarantee you that.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Zito's AL Ranks: ERA: 10th WHIP 24th K/BB: 39th BBA: 11th OBA: 36th SO: 14th And he's allowed the second most BBs (67) in all of the American League, only Daniel Cabrera has walked more batters. He is not the same pitcher he was in 2002. He has MAJOR control problems now a days. That's not even getting into the park factor. I feel safe when I say Zito's era would be well over 4 pitching at the Cell.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Zito is 10th in the AL in ERA. That's very good. Zito would instantly be our 2nd best starter. I wouldn't give up Anderson and McCarthy for him either, but anyone else is fair game as far as I'm concerned. With Crede here, Josh Fields can help us the most by serving as a trading chip. Broadway is projected as a 3rd or 4th starter, and I thought part of the rationale for that selection was to develop him quickly and use him to acquire parts for the ML team. Sorry, you just don't trade your best position prospect for two months of a guy who's been slightly above average at best since 2002. It would look even more stupid if we ended up missing the playoffs (a real possibility). Broadway is argubly our best pitching prospect right now (I know Flash is laughing somewhere). You still don't trade him for a 2 month rental. You know who his agent is, correct?
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) I'm surprised we didn't alter our rotation after the ASB to make sure that Vazquez faced the Royals in this upcoming series. The Royals would light him up now. Their offense has been much better the last two months or so.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if they're asking us to also take on some of their bad contracts, something like Kotsay-Zito for Anderson-Fields-Vazquez-Broadway-cash. Kotsay's been real bad this year. I disagree there. Replace Vazquez with Zito and we're the best wild card contender, on paper anyways. When will people realize that 2002 was 4 years ago? Zito is not THAT good. He's good. He's just not that good anymore. Yes, he would be an upgrade over Javy (not saying much). But you still have Buehrle and to a lesser extent Garcia struggling. And it now looks like the bullpen is starting to struggle some. If we could sign Zito long term, I'd give up anybody outside of McCarthy and Anderson for him. I doubt we'd be able to, though.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) So we let the season go down the toilet because we're not willing to part with a couple of prospects? How many chances are we going to get with this team? The only way I see Vazquez heading to Oakland is if we're prepared to pick up a significant chunk of his contract. Small market A's aren't going to want a $12M bust. I don't give two spiffs about Vazquez. I do, however, have a problem with giving up a top prospect for a guy that will more than likely have for only two months. I'd feel differently if it was basically a guarantee that we would get into the playoffs. This team has multiple holes right now. One trade is not gonna fix all the spiff wrong with this team. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) You would not be freeing up any money, the Sox would have to pick up most all of either's contract. Plus you're more than likely sending Fields/McCarthy to Oakland, you have to top a package that is centered around Milledge and basically that's the only way you're going to do it. Thank you.
  11. QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Javier Vazquez is Spanish for Danny Wright. Atleast Danny was decent enough not to tease you for 4 or 5 innings before crapping his pants. With Wright, you usually knew in the first or second inning he was gonna suck.
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) The consensus seems to blame Vazquez. Good job Soxtalk. Don't forget about Cotts. He's been horrible of late in terms of allowing inherited runners to score. He needs another pitch besides his fastball.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) First of all, he was due to blow one (he's only blown 2 all year now). But more importantly, this was Jenks 3rd straight day out there, with yesterday having to use him when we scored 13 and today putting him in a game where we scored 7, yet only led by 1. If we could have held the O's to, hell 8 runs in yesterday's game, maybe Bobby has better stuff and gets it done today. Or maybe if Javy or our setup men weren't spiff today we still don't need Bobby today. Sure it's great we almost swept this series, but it was still all about offense and our spiffty pitching hasn't changed, the only thing that did was our opponent. DO SOMETHING, make a trade, take somebody out of the rotation, just for the love of God anything because I want a chance to make the playoffs. Well, I do blame Jenks for hitting Tejada when he had him down 1-2. But, yeah, he's been nearly flawless in save situations all year. So it's hard to get too upset with him. Let's just hope this was a bad outing today. The last thing in the world we need right now is for Bobby to start struggling -- even for a few games.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) After this three game set in Baltimore, I can't honestly say that I think the Sox will make the playoffs with this current starting rotation. I think Kenny Williams has to be willing to overpay (obviously with a limit) to get this guy. You can't do it. Not when Zito is a free agent at the end of the season.
  15. Is there anyway we can get Selig to abolish the 6th inning when Javy starts? He and Jerry are close, right? I've just never seen anything like this. It would be much easier to accept if he was just getting drilled from the first inning on. And a big thumbs down to Ozzie for not pulling Vazquez immediately after he allowed the HR to Gibbons.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) I'm pretty sure that wasn't Cora's fault. I think that was all on AJ getting caught. OK then. Some made it sound like it was Cora's fault. I'm watching the game on the Yahoo gamecast.
  17. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) cora's gotta chill a bit Think Ozzie would ever go off on him the way he did Garland last week? Joey is getting on my damn nerves of late.
  18. Kenny has done an excellent job rebuilding this bullpen. We've come a long way since spring training when we had question marks all over the place. Kenny turned Joe Borchard and Javier Lopez, two guys who had absolutely no future with the Sox, into Matt Thornton and David Riske. Then he nets us a guy with electric stuff (although we had to pay a price) in MacDougal, who should flourish as a set-up man as long as he's healthy, of course. Now if only our damn starters would cooperate.
  19. C'mon, Jon. We need you to stay hot. Now that we've won the first game, anything less than a sweep will be a big dissapointment.
  20. I wouldn't touch Abreu with the money he makes. I'll laugh at the sucker that does.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) Right hand hitting 4th OF, the one thing this team seriously needs. Got ya.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 02:47 AM) How would people feel about Fields for Linebrink and Carillo now? Where do I sign?
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Brady Clark or nothing. See my sig.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) If the Twins get in, I see no one beating them. ^^^ As I mentioned in the "Twins watch" thread, it's not just Santana and Liriano. Brad Radke is 5-1 (5 no-decisions) with a 2.60 era since May 29th. So it's not like they've got nobody they can count on after the big two. Combine that with how filthy their bullpen is, and they would definitely be the favorites to me.
  25. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I honestly can't see Detroit making a big splash, I don't think Dombrowski wants to mess with this team, and can you blame him? Maybe he'll just make a minor move (Geoff Blumesque) Well, with the White Sox' recent play, we've definitely taken a lot of pressure off him. I think if we were only 1 or 2 games back, or maybe even tied, he would give up Sanchez to get Soriano.
