  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) It's nice to have Kevin Youkilis. But he's not healthy, and the Sox gave up two huge pieces for him. Lillibridge hit more HRs than Dunn last year!
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) I thought De Aza and Dunn were supposed to sit today according to everyone here? Because whenever a guy is in a slump, it's the brightest move ever to immediately say 'he should sit next game' Blackburn = Slump Buster
  3. I suppose we can forgive the 0-24...for now.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) @AdamHogeCBS Looks like the #WhiteSox won't have to face CC this weekend. RT @BloggingBombers: Breaking news: CC Sabathia on the DL. Wow
  5. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) Nick Blackburn has been absolutely pathetic this season, let's make today one of those stat padding blowouts and get all our bats back on track. Lefties vs. Blackburn this year: .380/.468/.598/1.066 So, Robin apparently looks at stats.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) In every aspect of his game too. There is still the occasional brain cramp, but the guy is playing much harder, much smarter, and much better than he has for years. His defense has been spectacular, aside from the occasional brain cramp. He's made some plays out there that few other players could.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) Here are some sobering facts that should put the Viciedo question in proper perspective: Last year, in 186 at bats, Brent Lillibridge had 5 doubles, 1 triple, 13 homers and 29 RBI's, while hitting .258 with a .340 OBP. This year, in 233 at bats, Dayan Viciedo, has 4 doubles, 0 triples, 12 homers and 32 RBI's, while hitting .253 with a .287 ObP. And this is a guy whom everyone seems to feel was "nothing" to give up for Youkilis, and is of little value, except as a utility player. He wasn't even regarded highly enough to be given a chance to play when Morel went down. He was passed in favor of Hudson and Escobar. The point is that Lillibridge had a better season than "Tank" is having so far. It seems apparent that many of you are enamored with Viciedo's potential, not his actual, current ability. Are the Sox playing for this year, or the future? That is the question. Where to start, where to start. First of all, just about everyone in baseball can look at Lillibridge's history and say that 2011 was an outlier. He will most likely never put up numbers like that again. Towards the end of last season before Lillibridge got hurt (as he got more playing time) he started to regress. He is not an everyday guy...at least not for the Sox. He is a utility player, and he did a fine job for us last year. And yes, many of us (and other people who make decisions about the White Sox) are enamored with Viciedo's potential. He has huge potential, and yes there are things he needs to work on, like being more patient. Besides, his current ability is fine for right now, especially considering who could take his place out there. Finally, the Sox are playing for now AND the future. Viciedo is a valued part of both of those plans. Dan Johnson is not and will not be. It's that simple.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) I think he hated toronto and ozzie guillen. This is the best Alex Rios we've seen. There might be something to his relationship with Ozzie.
  9. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) Shouldn't these posts be in teal? I don't understand where all of this hyperbole on Viciedo comes from. Maybe in a couple of years, but seriously, you don't really think that his 17 extra base hits and sub .300 OBP are scaring opposing pitchers!! They have already found his weaknesses, are are exploiting them effectively. Until he learns to lay off bad pitches, and take walks, he will not be a good Major League hitter. The fact that the post says opposing pitchers cry and pee their pants, and that he has the ability to change the physical matter of a baseball wasn't enough evidence that the post was in jest?
  10. It would be nice to see Dunn with a day off. Maybe Youkilis at first and Konerko DH? Or Danks in LF and Dayan at DH?
  11. Although Gavin got into trouble a few times, it's important to note that he did not walk anyone. Also, he seemed a lot more confident, even when he was in a jam. Bad Gavin would have melted down in those situations.
  12. So, this Alex Rios kid seems like a good ballplayer. He absolutely destroyed that homerun yesterday. Hopefully this is the Alex we see from here on out.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) MLB pitchers aren't afraid of Dan Johnson because they've been getting him out >80% of the time for quite a while now They are afraid of Dayan because he is a manchild sent from the hot fiery doldrums of hell (oh, he also hits major league home runs) Much like Quintana, the scouting report for Dayan is mythical and mysterious. It has been rumored that he can stare at opposing pitchers and make them wet their pants and begin sobbing like small children. In addition, he has been known to hit a baseball so hard that it changes from a solid to gas and back to a solid, mystifying scientists around the world.
  14. I can see both sides of the argument regarding strikeouts. However, someone hit it on the head when they said strikeouts are empty outs. Granted, one has a chance to create two outs with a groundball when there are runners on, but putting the ball into play is better than letting it land in the catcher's glove at the umpire rings him up. A flyball can score a guy from third. A strikeout cannot. A groundball to the right side can score a guy from third. A strikeout cannot. A groundball could be...a hit! A strikeout cannot. That being said, we know Adam Dunn is going to strikeout a lot. But being on pace for more than 250? He needs to make an adjustment. He's strong enough to swing at outside pitches and poke them to left field. Imagine if he could do that more often. It would eliminate the shift, or at a minimum reduce the dramatic shift. He's in a major slump right now, and we're more concerned than we might be over another player because of 2011. If he doesn't get a few hits soon and reduce the strikeouts a bit, he could be below .200...and soon.
  15. Giving Adam a day off is fairly easy with Danks on the bench. Jordan can play LF and Viciedo can be the DH. Obviously not something you want to do everyday, but Dunn needs a break.
  16. I haven't liked the way he's looked the last few games. He seems to be in that mode where he watches the first strike, swings at a bad one, and then has to swing at anything close. He looked pretty angry at himself last night, and I suppose that's a good thing. Last year he seemed more indifferent to striking out. I think he'll get hot again before cooling off...up and down. This cooling down period is getting a little long, though. I still think he'll hit in the .220-.229 range at crack 40+ HRs.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien Adam Dunn is 2 for his last 28 with 18 strikeouts. He might need a day off. Last night he looked very frustrated after each at-bat.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) Dan Johnson had an OPS of .389 with Tampa last year. (no that is not a misprint).. How is that...how can...really?
  19. Viciedo is much more valuable. Plus, he needs this entire year at the MLB lavel to see how he adjusts to the pitching. So far, I think things are going well.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) He never really blamed it. He just knew as soon as the Sox stepped foot in the building, they would lose. And he was right 95 percent of the time. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) It actually was one of the reasons. The Sox sucked in that dome. I guess that's more accurate, but I remember one game when someone hit a line drive right at the right fielder when the Sox had a guy on third and Hawk said something like, "This stadium..." Whatever the case, thank god they don't play there anymore.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) Ok, that is an error...that is not even the same dude. Yeah, it definitely looks like two different people.
  22. I miss the Metrodome and Hawk's constant blaming the stadium for the Sox playing poorly against the Twins.
  23. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 11:27 AM) He's not getting anything. Illegal. Maybe next year, if both are still around. Why would it be illegal? Paying for it, maybe. But I don't think it's illegal to give up a jersey number.
  24. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) I thought that this was illegal? No, it would have been illegal for Danks (or anyone for that matter) to take #13. At least it would be illegal in Kansas.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) Jordan Danks to give up #20 to Youk. Danks to wear #7 Was that Youk's number in Boston?
