  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Look at the attendance, and adjust expectations. What does attendance have to do with the team needing some help? If you're talking about how much the team would be willing to spend on help, that makes sense. But a statement saying the Sox should start looking for help shouldn't be discounted because of low attendance.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) Dunn is on pace for 57 HR at the moment It's amazing how much of a different player he seems like this year.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst Adam Dunn & Josh Hamilton now have the same number of HR (22). Incredible, since Hamilton has put almost 60 more balls in play (181-123)! Interesting stat. I figured Dunn would catch up to Hamilton but not so early; Hamilton seemed to slow down dramatically. They could both end up with close to 50 bombs.
  4. My biggest problem with Floyd has been his consistent inconsistency. Although, he's been consistently bad for a couple starts now. I don't know what to do with the guy. He shows flashes of being a very good pitcher (his curveball has been great lately), but overall he seems to buckle under pressure. Peavy and Sale seem like the real deal. I feel pretty confident every time they start. I feel pretty about Quintana, too, although I think we're all waiting for the bottom to fall out. Humber and Floyd...no confidence in these guys right now. And Danks, who knows. Hopefully he comes back from the DL and pitches a lot better. What it boils down to is that we have some problems with the starting pitching. Not having confidence in 40% of your starters is not good. I think moving Humber to the bullpen and keeping Q in the rotation is the way to go right now. Beyond that? Do the Sox bring someone up or find a cheap veteran?
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) I do not understand, truly do not, how you guys can despise a man that led the White Sox to the only World Series we are gonna win in our lifetimes. Chicago baseball historically is that bad and does NOT figure to change anytime soon. Do you realize how tough it is to win a WS? He was our leader. I call B.S. He could have gone elsewhere and would have if he disliked Ozzie. I don't think you'll find many (if any) people on this site that won't give Ozzie credit for 2005. It was the team, and it was him. But you constantly talk out of both sides of your mouth. When it comes to Ozzie, he had/has so much to do with a team's success. Otherwise, you say the manager doesn't have that much of an effect on a team. I believe that the 2005 White Sox could have won the WS with another manager. Not any manager, but there were other managers or potential managers that could have led that team to vicory. It was the last couple years (and so far this year in Miami) that Ozzie has lost a lot of respect. Publicly fighting with his GM, allowing his dumbass kid to run rampant and start s***, making stupid comment after stupid comment, and then there's the whole quitting on his team. And that was all before his comments about Castro. And don't be so quick to say that the Sox will never win another WS in our lifetimes. This team and its future are looking better. They have a competent manager. And their chances of making the playoffs are decent every year because of the division. Once they get to the playoffs, you never know what will hapen.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 07:43 AM) $58 million and he still begged for the Sox to make him a contract offer said differently. For $58 million, I'd put up with Ozzie...with a big smile on my face. Oh, and the weather wouldn't hurt, either.
  7. The first post of this thread should be enough to ensure a White Sox victory today. Oh, and I loved the old post predicting De Aza would have a Pierre-like season.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) That'd be a hell of a beaning considering they're playing on the South Side. It would be an extremely wild pitch that traveled into the dugout.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 12:56 AM) I mean that was the game saver. Didn't you just feel deep down Paulie was gonna do exactly what he did? I did. Sucks but Paulie is Paulie. Seems hypocritical to criticize him for anything this season. I actually felt the same way. I was watching the game with my son, and I told him that the shortstop just saved the game. I was hoping Konerko could hit a fly ball, but I did feel deep down that a ground ball was coming.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) Was this poll taken after Oz's comments about Castro? Then it's poorly timed. One of the reasons Ozzie is the least respected manager is because he always manages to make an ass of himself and consequently embarrass the team for which he manages. His comments about Castro (along with the many other insensitive stuff he's said over the years) shows that he can't keep his damn mouth shut and tends to speak without thinking. Even if he hadn't uttered the Casto comments, he still would have been towards the bottom of this list.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 12:58 AM) Proof that he is a good manager to play for. Mark Buehrle. I rest my case, your honors. Buehrle playing for the Marlins proves only that he likes money.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) ***grabs popcorn, awaits greg's defense of Oz*** This is going to be good...
  13. QUOTE (MEANS @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 07:28 AM) wasn't Dunn's HR a solo shot? Beckham was out at 2nd on his hit prior to Dunn's AB so bases were empty. This is true, but the ball stayed in the air so long Dunn was able to round the bases twice.
  14. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 04:02 AM) For those of you who dislike Hawk, try listening to the lame ass guys the Cardinals run out there. They actually said that Orlando Hudson consulted with Jake Peavy prior to signing here since they know each other from playing together in San Diego. I guess they're allowed to make up whatever bulls*** and flat out lie if they want. I heard a different version. Apparently, KW was eating breakfast and he consulted his Alpha Bits to see who he should sign to fill in for Morel. When a series of O's popped up in his cereal bowl he knew he had to get Orlando. It was later determined that KW was actually eating Cheerios.
  15. Adam Dunn can hit baseballs very far.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) What do you expect them to ask for? If you were a Mets fan, would you want a freaking reliever to be the centerpiece in a deal to trade away the face of your franchise? The Mets tried to negotiate a new deal with Wright, most likely to get a feel for how much he was willing to stay...he told them he wasn't going to negotiate with them in the middle of the season. What will probably happen is the Mets will approach him and say "Look, we're getting all kinds of offers for you here. We need to know what your commitment is to this franchise. What are your parameters for a new deal?" He'll either then give them something they like, and they will consider keeping him, or he will give them something they don't, and they'll look to move him. Either way, with the departure of Jose Reyes last year, they fanbase is going to want to see quite a haul for him if they move him. I don't see the Wright situation being anywhere close to the Greinke situation. The Mets are probably going to require something like Dayan AND Reed or Jones, and then want other high upside low-ball players to go along with them. Even if we could pay the salary, I'm just not sure that is in the cards. All I was saying was that if they ask for Viciedo, KW should just stop right there. You're right that the Mets (or any team with a valuable piece to trade) will probably ask for him. But he's not a prospect anymore. In my opinion, it would be insane to trade the guy. He's a big part of the future of this club.
  17. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) If Reed is the centerpiece they ask for in a Wright deal then I think you definitely go for it. And if Viciedo is the centerpiece, KW should say no thanks and hang up the phone.
  18. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) Let's go get him! They can have Humber and Stewart. I just heard Humber on the Score say that homeruns happen in our ballpark in the summer. Weird, Sale didn't give up any on Saturday?!? Yeah, I saw him talking about that. Even if balls fly a little further at the Cell he was still throwing pitches that were easy to hit. I could have probably driven one of his pitches to the warning track yesterday.
  19. QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) Brain cramp? Yes. Stone cold idiot? Harsh. Lacking in MLB level 3rdbaseman instincts after playing 13 games at that position in his career? Yes. Bottom line, he had no errors last nite, and did not cost the Sox any runs with his brain cramp. He had the game-winning hit, along with another hit last nite. In summary....he had a good game, cus the team won,and the Sox are now 10-3 with him manning the hot corner. I will take that. I agree with most of this. He hasn't looked great by any means, but he had some fantastic plays the other night. He had some bad plays last night, and although the one that hit the seam and then bounced off his glove was not counted as an error, he didn't play the ball well. But, I don't care, because the Sox won and he got the winning hit. I'll take that.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) It was a good simpsons episode though! Yes it was.
  21. #8 - When will the makers of Pringles realize that it's not just children eating their chips? #14 - I see plenty of these things. They bother me, but not as much as spiders. #16 - It's even worse when you look at the clock and realize your alarm is going to go off in 30 minutes.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 06:27 AM) Chalk that one up to the "Wow, I didn't even realize he was still alive" category. On June 1, out of the blue my wife asked if Richard Dawson was still alive. I said I thought he was. Then he died the next day.
  23. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) RIP. Love his short stories. A Sound of Thunder is one of the best short stories of all time. And it was made into an absolutely horrible movie.
  24. Dunn needs to start hitting the ball again. I'm sure he'll go on a tear, hit six homeruns in a week, and then cool off again. I'd like to see him wakeup starting tonight.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 01:45 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...,6968593.column Not Cowley, but it reads exactly like him. McNeil, you suck! Isn't this the same guy that was part of the Mac, Jurko, and Harry show a few years back? He was always a die hard Sox fan. Now it sounds like he's a fan, but he doesn't want to get too involved with being happy about their successes. Yes, we are all aware of what could go wrong with this team, but dammit man, enjoy the ride! For the most part, his points are valid, except for Peavy. I don't get the feeling that he could hurt himself with every pitch. He seems healthy for the first time since he became a Sox. Although his points are valid, he said nothing positive. It was all doom and gloom. Stick to radio Mac.
