Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Steve Stone was on mully and Hanley this morning, said we are not looking at greinke, he's a small market pitcher I'm assuming he means there's a small market for him due to the cost? Otherwise...well, otherwise it makes no sense.

Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) what happend between the two? For starters, they are from rival schools in Florida. That may be the extent of it; I'm not sure.

Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) We do have Peavy, AJ and Floyd money coming off the books. True, but I thought I remember seeing that he'd be expected to make $20+ million a year. It would be nice, though.

Lilibridge to be DFA'd
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) I'd replace Hudson with Lilly. As we saw in the KC extra innings game, Hudson has 0 value to this team. Lilly is at least a solid baserunner. I agree. And in a pinch he can play just about anywhere. But Hudson is probably the only guy I'd replace.

Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
If the Sox were to go after Greinke, I'd hope they wouldn't offer a ton with him being only a rental. I would think there's no way the Sox could afford to re-sign him.

Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
Is Greinke a free agent after this season?

Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) You have a problem with a .385 obp replacing a .278 obp? Yes, when you're sacrificing defense and ALL power.

Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I don't care if it's his first year or fifth year. I also could not care less about his development the rest of this year. A 100+ difference in obp that could be had cheaply is an upgrade worth considering. Not in this case, especially when you consider the "upgrade" is Juan Pierre. And you should be concerned about development. It's not just about this year. You have to consider 2013 and beyond. Viciedo is going to be a big part of that. I don't see that allowing Viciedo to play is making the Sox worse. I could see, however, that Pierre roaming left field could.

Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Every one of his hits gets celebrated like someone on here won the lotto. He's batting .261 with 15 HRs and 43 RBIs. His OBP has been improving and now sits at .302. There's nothing wrong with that type of production, especially when there are signs of improvement. The only hits of his that have been "celebrated" on here have been those game-changing HRs. And those were celebration-worthy hits.

Dempster to Rangers
Well, this thread has morphed into another discussion (which happens often, and that's okay). But the disturbing part is that the discussion is about bringing back Pierre. Really? And the reasoning is that Pierre has a higher OBP against right handers. Okay, so let's platoon every position. Dunn sits against lefties, Rios sits against righties, Beckham sits against... Viciedo's power and ability to change a game with one swing makes up for the difference in BA and OBP. Besides, this is his first full year in the majors, and we've already seen two people on the board bound and determined to trade and/or sit him. As far as I'm concerned, Viciedo is doing fine. His patience is getting better, his defense has been surprisingly decent, and he's got a ton of power. Let the guy develop for god's sake.

2012 TV Thread
I wonder what the beginning of the episode was foreshadowing. Could be the end of the series or something in between.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) Ok the "I forgive you" line at the end, is one of the all time best TV show lines, ever. That was just bad assed. His "conversation" with Saul was awesome, too.

The Youkilis Rules: Royals Fail
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) Is there any way we can pick up his $13 million 2013 option? At this point, yes. I'd like to see something like a two-year deal, though. We'll have to wait and see.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Man that was exciting and frustrating baseball. Last year's team loses that game in 10. What the hell would this team do without Youkilis? Nice to see Axelrod get the win; I was impressed. That pick at first on Paulie's throw in the dirt was sweet.

Friday the 13th Game Thread: Sox @ Royals!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Why is Q pitching tonight? Why don't the Sox just open with Sale, then go with Peavy, Q, Floyd? This is no time to give KC some momentum in the series opener with me there. Typical luck. I buy expensive seats and it's our first rainy day pretty much in the last six weeks. What's wrong with Q pitching. If I recall correctly, he's been pretty good.

Friday the 13th Game Thread: Sox @ Royals!
If I had to go another day without Sox baseball I might have lost my mind. Let's start this second half off right. Sox win big. Dunn homers, Q frightens the opposition into submission, Bruce Chen doesn't make it past 5.

2012 Films Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) It's not just a Disney movie, but a kids movie, with an adult hook in that most adults grew up watching The Wizard of Oz. I believe this is a targeted G rating, so the question is how will Raimi deal with the constraints that brings? The teaser didn't have much in it other than scenery and a few character teases...I'm trying to be hopeful for a solid story/movie, but I fear this movie will fall off the deep end of stupid like Burton's Alice did, where all he seemed to care about was wonky characters (for no reason), and the over-use of over saturated colors. I thought Alice was going to be amazing...it wasn't. From what I've read it doesn't seem to be a kids movie. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm right. My guess is that it'll be a PG movie to really cash in on just about every audience.

2012 Films Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) I took the wife to Wicked years ago, and that was incredible. If this is half as well written, it will be excellent. With Sam Raimi directing, the chance of a great movie increase. I realize it's a Disney movie, but I hope they don't get to cutesy with it.

Technically a 2013 movie, but the first trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful is out. Looks bad ass.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) Any Direct TV people here? http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/t...nels/56149394/1 It's a shame when stuff like this happens. The only losers are the viewers. It seems like it doesn't matter what you have (Dish, Direct TV, U-Verse, Comcast) there's always something going on between a service and channel provider. And when a dispute is finally ended, the consumer pays with increased rates.

Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) It really sucks to have to save to get good box seats at a baseball game. Baseball should be ashamed. It was a sport meant to be affordable. Let's face it, we love our team but our ballpark is easily the worst in baseball. The new Cell is OK at best. What field are you talking about? Because then you say the Cell is okay. There's no way that Tropicana Field is better than the Cell. I can't compare to many other parks, but I would say US Cellular is better than Wrigley. And I don't know that baseball was meant to be affordable. It is ridiculous how much it costs, though.

Reason for White Sox Turnaround
“He’s not a yeller or a screamer,” Konerko said. “He’s not overmanaging or anything like that. He trusts his players. But I think he set the tone early that, ‘I’m not going to talk a lot, but when I talk, it’s important and everybody listen.’ He can be stern if he wants to. But I think everybody respects him and nobody wants to force his hand in that nature.” Sounds like the antithesis of Ozzie. I don't know if that's what Konerko was getting at, but it sure sounds that way.

Sox are interested in Volquez and Street
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) Oh boy. Sox are gonna have to give up a lot to get this duo. So who do Sox say goodbye to, forever. I'd say Jordan Danks, Mitchell, Flowers and Q will probably be the ransom. No way on Quintana. You don't give up pitching to acquire pitching, not with the situation the Sox are in. Otherwise, I could see one or more of those guys involved.

Interleague Changes for 2013 and Beyond

Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
I've only been to a handful of games, but I've sat in the lower deck near the right field foul pole and in the upper deck. For the price, I have no problem with the upper deck. There really isn't a bad seat in the place. However, my son and I took a tour of the field on 7/6 as part of the Bulls Sox Academy, and now I really want to sit right near the dugouts. One of these days...just have to start saving.
