White Sox vs Indians 7:10 CST
Hopefully there's no power outage after last night's explosion. Let's hope they have to send someone across the border for more fireworks by the 5th inning.

Alejandro is DA DA (De Aza)
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) Nor can we have Dunn, Ramirez, Fukudome, Escobar, Beckham, Morel, or Lillibridge facing lefties. We'll just have AJ catch, PK play the entire infield, and Viciedo cover the entire outfield. He'd need a glove the size of his house to make up for his speed.

Alejandro is DA DA (De Aza)
QUOTE (Cali @ May 25, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) Of every young player ? going into this season, De Aza's been the most consistent and solid. Can't believe he wasn't leading off last season.... I can. *looks southeast towards Florida and then southwest towards Kansas*

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
I remember last year (before the season started) someone had said with Konerko and Dunn in the lineup, it was a perfect set-up for Donkey Kong. Obviously with Dunn's season last year, that wasn't a reality. I'm surprised no one has brought it up this year, yet. Sounds like an opportunity for someone to do some art...

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 25, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Guess what? King Kong will be the last player to wear #14 for the White Sox. And I think he is going to hit .400 this year which means we will be hearing a lot of Ted Williams story from the Hawk. Amazing for a guy who really isn't going to get too many infield hits. I don't know if anyone will ever hit .400 again. But, the way Konerko is playing, I think .350+ is not out of the question. Add to that 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs, and he should be in the running for MVP. And yes, no one will wear #14 again.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
I've noticed that Stone never jumps on board with Hawk's homerun calls like DJ did. Honestly I'm not sure what it would sound like with Stone's relatively calm voice.

2012 TV Thread
I realize this thread is basically nothing but opinions, so I'll offer an opinion of my own. I'm surprised by the amount of hate towards The Killing. I am still really enjoying it. I am wondering, however, what sort of role Richmond will have, if any. Seems like an extra character now. Last week's episode was very good. Stan's son and then Stan himself losing it was a long time coming. Linden should get the worst mother of the year award.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
I thought Hawk was going to have a stroke after De Aza's grand slam. And how did he call Rios' double a homerun? It was pretty obvious that the ball hit the wall. He was halfway through "booooaaaarrrrrdddd" before he realized the ball was bouncing around in the field.

White Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) More than anything, I want to hear Hawk interview Snoop. "Have you met my partner? Snoop Doggy, Stone Pony. Stone Pony, Snoop Doggy."

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) I heard even teams in other sports are retiring his number. There's a kid on my son's baseball team that wears #14, and I started yelling at him through the fence last night that he isn't fit to wear that number. His dad came over to see what was going on, and I simply said, "Never forget." He quickly bowed his head and said he would rip the number 1 off the kid's jersey later that night.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) Rooney and Farmer was a good team. Current Farmer/DJ radio booth isn't great, isn't terrible, but is waaaaay better than the current TV booth. In my opinion (since this is all this thread is), for some entertainly uncomfortable moments, the radio team is better. DJ just makes some weird-ass comments, and Farmer tries to respond. But, as a complement to the game, I'll take the TV guys.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) he'd get intentionally walked while still on-deck. MLB would probably adopt the men's slow-pitch softball rule where you can just tell the umpire you're giving him the base.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) No MVP awards, 1 top 5 MVP finish, no seasons leading the league in HR, .863 career OPS, 5 all star appearances. 1 ALCS MVP award, 1 WS ring. That's the definition of "hall of very good". He absolutely needs the milestone to get in. Yeah, you're right. I suppose we view him as so much better because he's been one of the best players for the Sox for so long.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
What would happen if Paulie got hit in the face a third time? He'd probably never strike out, line out, pop out, or fly out. He'd be intentionally walked even if the bases were loaded.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Every year he sticks around in the post-steroid era and keeps putting up legit numbers is a year that could separate him from the steroid-stained pack. If he can make it to 500 homers in a 30-35 homer per year fashion, he could put together a case to sneak into the Hall eventually. What are the chances of him making the Hall without reaching 500 HRs? Say he retires with 460+? I understand the chances would probably be next to none, but it would be a shame as , like you said, he's been putting up legit numbers in the post-steroid era.

I didn't really put together the facts that Paulie is hitting over .380 and it's almost June. The guy is amazing. Sale again looked good. And Rios found his power again.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) Did I stutter in my post? Let me answer it for you. No I didn't because that is impossible while typing. I said let him do his job and Ozzie do his. As in neither interferes in the others. That wasn't GM love. That was "GM wanted real DH, manager didn't want real DH. Manager got his way. It failed. So GM gets real DH, manager throws hissy fit. Destroys team." Maybe if Ozzie's f***tard sons weren't given jobs by the team, then constructing teams would have been easier. But Ozzie want a team that couldn't hit home runs. Ozzie wanted a team of 9 Ozzie's on offense (see: s***ty, but grindy. No power.) and nothing but Buehrle's for pitching. The problem was the only soft tossing lefty that can pitch like Buehrle is Buehrle. He's one unique motherf***er. But we got Juan Pierre to provide the Ozzie-esque offense. Ozzie wanted to manufacture runs. You know what manufactures runs? Crossing home. Home runs facilitate that. Ozzie didn't like home runs because he had the HR power of Juan Pierre/Jerry Owens, so therefore, he didn't want them on his team, even though his teams were only good when they hit the f*** out of the ball. This is a great post, and that first line is classic.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) It's odd that a thread based 100% on opinions is filled with people telling others that their opinion is wrong. Welcome to Soxtalk I guess. You know what they say about opinions.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) It's a pet peeve of mine when someone who is paid to write about baseball doesn't understand the difference between at-bats and plate appearances. Dunn did not have 11 at-bats in the weekend series. He had eight at-bats with two hits, and an additional six plate appearances that resulted in walks. Even saying he had 11 at-bats is inaccurate. He had 14 plate appearances with 2 hits and 6 walks. It is annoying when professionals can't get stuff like that right.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:31 AM) So again, are you stating that people that appreciate Hawk are "meatball fans"? Maybe there is something else to it? Like respecting the fact that the guy has been involved in baseball about twice the number of years you have been alive? Or that he's forgotten more about baseball than you'll ever know? I get it...I recognize he isn't polite, and he's not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to advanced metrics, and he has some of his ridiculous philosophical ramblings that change from year to year...I remember when "you were only as good as your starting pitching," now "you're only as good as your bullpen." He likes to talk himself into believing the Sox have a chance every year, but it's hard for me to blame him for that considering they are his life. He's not close to perfect, and I respect your opinion, however I disagree. That doesn't mean those who have an appreciation for Hawk are "meatball fans." Why don't you stop and think that maybe you don't know everything about everything? That maybe as you get older you will recognize some things and gain some insight from experience and realize that hey, maybe I'm not the smartest person on earth after all? You're right. The Sox are his life, and I appreciate his enthusiasm. He also knows the game of baseball. Sure he has some long-winded stories about people many of us haven't heard of, but I think a lot of us (maybe Steve Stone as well) tune him out at times like that. I'd rather hear his "You can put it on the board, yes!" than a generic call (that you often hear with Farmer and DJ). Steve Stone is the perfect partner for Hawk because he's so much more low key. But, like Hawk, the guy is a wealth of baseball knowledge. I like the duo in the booth. Like I had mentioned earlier, it seems like these type of threads pop up every year. Who can we complain about next? Who can we say sucks at their job? I know, let's say Hawk is no good, but let's just focus on getting rid of the guy instead of offering up who might be a better choice.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
A thread like this comes up at least once a year. I don't mind Hawk, and I don't know who they could replace him with. I have noticed that over the past few years his depth perception must be off. He's yelling "Stretch!" and "Get on back there!" on fly balls that barely make the warning track. He complains about the umpires a lot. And he has some strange man-crushes. But I have noticed that he will give props to a player on the opposing team if they make a great play. He's a homer, sure, but he's also a baseball fan.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 22, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) and this right here is why the bait continues to be passed back and forth. For every fan of the White Sox, this IS a big f***ing deal QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) Not every fan, cause you have to admit I am a fan. And I don't care. The season was over. Didn't Cooper manage the games? It was prolly good to give him a couple considering his ego. If it was Cora, my bad. Yes, it is a big deal to Sox fans. And he may have left the team with a few games left, but he quit long before that. I wasn't aware Cooper had ego issues.

Sox vs Twins 5/22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) No offense but you probably should put in the corner a disclaimer "parody of greg775" cause to the average person this would seem like a mockery of Paulie and other "never forget" efforts. just saying. The "average person" doesn't post on SoxTalk. SoxTalk posters post on SoxTalk.
