  1. Gavin's gotta put his big boy pants on. We need this guy to go 6 or 7 innings and only give up a couple runs. He's crapped down his pant leg too many times this season. With that being said,
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 16, 2012 -> 03:59 AM) I see what you did there.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) That's funny, it's usually the other way around. Yes, usually when something like that happens, the board explodes. Shock maybe? Or maybe resignation. Yesterday's come from behind win was too good to be true.
  4. Sure got quiet in here.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) Now Dunn's even hitting homers off lefties And a good lefty, too. The guy had a pretty small ERA coming into last night's game. Dunn turned that ball around in a hurry. His swing looks so much faster than last year.
  6. The way Dunn is playing this year, he has to be in the lineup. I'm not sure the Sox lose much defensively with Dunn vs. Viciedo anyway.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) "Hey Ladies. I'm Unattractive." But half my face is in shadow, so that makes me mysterious.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 11, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) True but I think pittshoganerko basing it off the fact that they moved him, let him pitch and THEN send him for an MRI. Right. But, the news came out that he was moved to the closer role because of some soreness issues. Maybe I don't have the timeline correct, but it seemed like we heard about his arm issues when he was moved.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Damn it, Fox canceled The Finder. I guess I don't need to watch the ones I have on my DVR then.
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 11, 2012 -> 02:06 AM) 19,912 Average attendance for 14 home dates, down 2,657 from last season. Hell, if this team hold close to top in the division in May, maybe the attedance fall won't be as drastic and Sox will have some money to spend. Looking at the way the teams in the central have been playing, I believe there's a real chance the Sox will be "in it" come July. I certainly don't believe they will be so far out to where they are nothing but sellers. I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade deadline like last year.
  11. This whole thing seems very strange. Someone is not saying something. He gets taken down from the rotation and is said to be the closer. Then when he's ready to pitch (a full week since his last outing) he pitches in the eighth inning, not the ninth. Then we hear very contradictory remarks from the Sox. "He'll be in the bullpen the rest of the season", "Well, maybe not", "He will start again"... Then there's the much talked about MRI. What were the results? Or will we hear different stories about that, too? One thing is for sure (to me anyway). There is certainly something wrong with his arm, whether it's general soreness or a significant injury. He was cruising right along as a starter, and the first we hear of him having any issues is after he's moved to the bullpen. I have a bad feeling that there's something more wrong with his arm than just soreness.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 10, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) So far he sure has, but it's a long season. I wish the best for Jake and hope he continues his winning ways and stays healthy. The man is a competitor for sure. However, even oif he continues to win, I think he owes this team something for sticking with him. He isn't going to make $22M with any team in 2013 so maybe he will look at giving a discount to the Sox? Maybe just dreaming but what the heck The Sox really had no choice but to stick with him. There was essentially no chance to trade him because of the money he's owed and his health. However, I agree it would be nice if he offered a discount by say restructuring what he's owed into a multi-year deal. Wishful thinking, but you never know.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 10, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) I think it might be possible that the Nations #1 Sox fan Barack Obama reads our board and even posts under an assumed name Hmmm...so who could it be? What might his screen name be?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) That's why they call it, "Just Win, Baby." It's human nature. The only way to shut fans up is to win. Otherwise there are tons of things to second guess. Yes a great fan has faith and shrugs off the losses and keeps the faith all 27 outs. That's difficult to do with all the wild losing streaks and ways this team has pissed away games the past 2-plus seasons. You could say all teams lose games, but the White Sox have really held the market on horrible losses/weird player slumps in the time span I've mentioned. Go Sox. I don't know if it's magnified to us as Sox fans, but it does seem like this team finds ways to lose. I suppose if you talked with fans of the Pirates, Cubs, O's, etc. they may say the same thing. Those 9th inning losses are more painful than a loss that was secured in the 4th inning. And it seems like we see those late inning losses way too often.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) That was a good move by Robin having him play first base more. And Paulie doesn't get mad about it cause he's been banged up some (right?). I'm sure putting him in the field a lot more gets him more involved in things. Since he appears thinner, his defense hasn't been rotten at all. He's looked decent at 1st base. I don't think Konerko minds DHing more often, and it doesn't seem to affect how well he hits. This is more of what I expected to see as far as a shared workload of 1st/DH.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 10, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Nice trolling, caught alot of guys here. Trolling or not, most of the responses were folks offering real possibilities for the future of Peavy. You can shame the thread starter, but those of us "caught" tried to generate good conversation. The future of Peavy with the White Sox (if there is a future) is important. If he continues to pitch like this, and the Sox are in the race for most of the season (and the way the division is playing, that's not a stretch), there will be plenty of talk as to how the Sox can keep him.
  17. Dunn's HR last night was said to be 425 feet. The blast the other day in Detroit was apparently only 422 feet. One of those measurements is wrong. I'm guessing the one in Detroit.
  18. De Aza is quietly having a decent year. Maybe the Sox finally have that true leadoff center fielder.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 10, 2012 -> 04:19 AM) Exactly. If Peavy pitches like this the rest of the way, then you simply pick up his option at the end of the season. The $22 million may seem like a lot, but the marginal cost is really $18 million and if you have to overpay any position on a year deal a legit ace is by far the spot to do so. Regardless, there is absolutely no reason to rush into anything stupid. I hadn't thought of it that way. Good point.
  20. If he continues to pitch like this, the Sox should approach him about restructuring the option into a 2 or 3 year deal. But, the Sox aren't going to offer anything extreme. 2 years/$25 Million, 3 years/$36 million...that's about it. There will be several teams that might offer upwards of $15-$17 million per. Long story short, unless the Sox pick up the $22 million option (ha!) or Peavy accepts a "hometown" discount, he will not be pitching for the Sox next year.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 9, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) No kidding, it would be down right rapeage, which is only one reason its fantasy. Hell, the Sox could send another player and it'd still be good.
  22. Hopefully last night's dramatic win will spark a run. I usually don't drink until the weekend, but if the Sox have the lead in the 4th inning, it's time. Why the 4th? Because I should be home from my son's baseball game by that time.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) This is exactly why this is fantasy. The salary differences are $6 million this year and $7 million next year. The White Sox are not adding dollars. It would still be a good trade for the White Sox, in my opinion.
  24. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) I wasn't pissed, where it fell was probably outside his range. He pulled up rather than trying to make a play on it, which was probably the right move. He made the wrong move earlier in the game and was lucky it didn't turn into a triple because of it. What I DID think was that a decent LF could get there, and wouldn't that be nice. I'd still rather have him play in LF than sit or DH though. I didn't see him making the wrong move earlier in the game, but I still think he gave up on that ball. It didn't have the trajectory where it would bounce past him and create a worse situation. It was a pop fly, and he stopped running and basically starting walking towards it as it fell. Most left fielders would have made that play, and I think he could have made the play if he had kept running towards it.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 7, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) I have a question. I was thinking the other day: Is there ANYTHING Obama could do to cost him the election? I mean the economy is so bad it is laughable. It's not like he's been some sort of international guru. Yet I ask ... Is the upcoming election the biggest lock in politico history? Seriously? It's an obvious landslide victory. And my other question is: 2.) Now that we have had an African American president, do you think we will forever have an African American president? After Obama who is the next African American candidate on the Democrat side? I'm just thinking in this age of political correctness the so called minority candidate will be a lock to win each and every election. I do believe that we are there as a society. That if it's 1 vs. 1, democrat vs. republican, the minority candidate WILL WIN. I do not mean to come across as a jerk here. I CAN ASSURE YOU I am not racist. I voted for Obama and all that. Pls. answer my 2 questions. Thanks. I guess I have a third question: Does the term "minority" still get used? Haven't Afr. Americans surpassed Caucasians in terms of numbers of people in the U.S? I don't see Obama losing this election. You're right about the economy being bad, but that has been building for a long time. I hate political arguments, but I've had discussions about the economy and the president with my brother in-law several times. He's a "anybody but Obama" guy...well to be fair, he's a "anybody but a democrat" guy, and he constantly argues that a republican president would turn the economy around. I argue that the president can only do so much, and there has bene so much damage done to the economy for many many years. And to put my own two cents worth in, how can lower to middle class people believe that a guy like Romney would help them? As far as your second question, no I do not believe we will forever have a black president. I do believe that we will eventually see a women president and a hispanic president. And, I believe that a "minority" candidate would have a leg up, but they wouldn't necessarily be a lock...especially as time goes on.
