QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) Fringe renewed for a 13-episode final season. http://tv.ign.com/articles/122/1222580p1.html Good and bad news. Good that it has been renewed, but bad that it'll be over. I thoroughly enjoy the show, and I wonder if Fox had put it in a more friendly time slot it would have made a difference.
  3. I've glanced through most of this thread, and I've come to the conclusion that this is a stupid argument. So, we're going to say Viciedo is not worth the wait when the wait has essentially been 18 games? You can say bring in the numbers from last year and the year before, but this is the first time that he has started at the MLB level...and he's still quite young. I believe that with regular playing time, we will begin to see more games like yesterday's. The guy can hit, and his defense is not as bad as feared. Will he be the second coming of Frank Thomas? That's doubtful, but he could easily be a .270+, 20+ HR guy, and I'll take that.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) Try having them start at 10! I had the opposite probelm when I lived in Alaska. Sunday football games started at 9 AM, and Monday "Night" Football was a 5 PM start.
  5. Nate Jones has impressed me, but I'll honestly say I haven't watched his pitch selection closely. Does he have the right mix? Plus, he went a couple inning yesterday. Is he more of a longer relief guy?
  6. Sale could be a strikeout machine, provided he doesn't get burnt out on innings eventually. What did he have, 11, the other day when he seemed to struggle? His pitches must be pretty deceiving to hitters.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) I'm sure someone will say it has nothing to do with coaching I'm sure it isn't the coaching. Just like Dunn's improved swing and Rios' much improved hitting have nothing to do with the coaching...even though Dunn said Manto has been a big help.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) Scott Merkin ‏ @scottmerkin Cespedes beat the throw on SB but overslid at second. So White Sox now 8-for-10 in nailing base stealers. Talk about a turnaround Last year, White Sox catchers (AJ, Castro, Flowers, Lucy) were 22-of-157 in nabbing base stealers Holy turnaround Batman. From 22-157 to 8-10 (so far)? Wow.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) Nah, a guy I worked with absolutely hates Bale because of his slight lisp. I never even noticed it until it was pointed out to me. Avengers, TDKR, and Spiderman this summer. And movies in that vein like Prometheus and Total Recall are also coming out in the next two months This looks like a good one. The trailer reminds me of the first Alien.
  10. So, Ozzie had nothing to do with the bad performance of the team but everything to do with the good stuff? Okay.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) We've played Texas and Detroit as well...and Baltimore isn't a horrendous team anymore...I think the schedule thus far has been pretty representative of what you'll see during the course of a full season. In fact, our opponents are a combined 53-43 right now...and 47 and 33 against teams other than our White Sox. Right. I was going to point out that we lost 3 of 4 to the O's. Regardless, I'm not sure anyone sees the Sox maintaining a .625 winning percentage.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) I got a sick hoodie at SoxFast it was also incredible cheap. Is that a website? I'm being serious, not being a jerk thinking you mis-spelled Sox Fest.
  13. No doubt that 16 games is a very small sample size (10% to be accurate). But I am very encouraged by what I'm seeing out of Dunn, Rios, and Peavy. They just look like they are playing better. Will Rios' .360+ average last? Probably not, but he could level out at near .300. He looks a lot more confident and relaxed at the plate. Dunn looks much better, and his .250 average looks pretty sustainable. Peavy looks just freaking dialed in. I don't see every outing being like his last two, but this is the best he has looked in a White Sox uniform for sure. I don't want to get all excited and let myself be disappointed, but I'm thinking this could be a 87-90 win season, and that might be enough to contend.
  14. Here's to NOT seeing a patented Gavin Floyd implosion. Go Sox!
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) I don't just blame him. Plenty of blame to go around. You're right that there was plenty of blame to go around. The big three (Peavy, Rios, Dunn) were contributors to the bad season for sure. I think what most people are implying is that you don't assign enough blame to Ozzie. He quit on the team last year. He got worse as the season went on with his decisions. He publicly fought with KW, and didn't make the lineups based on what KW said and did. Sure, it's the manager's job to make the lineup, but I certainly got the impression that he was playing certain players as his way of defying his GM.

I would believe that any desire Peavy would have to return to the Sox would be weighed heavily on what sort of condition this team is in towards the end of the season. If the 2012 Sox contend throughout the season, Peavy would probably be more apt to re-sign vs. if the team struggles and finishes 10 games out. No duh, right? However, I believe that if Peavy has a monster year, it won't matter what the Sox do. Someone else will most likely pay a lot more than the Sox would be wiling to spend.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) Ozzie was negatively impacting the team and not trying to win. There is empirical evidence of this. Why would you support him? Listen, he was fun. Ozzie being Ozzie was a blast, and he was a HUGE reason the team won a World Series. Things came to pass, and he turned on your team and he turned on you, Greg. Ozzie gave up on this team so he could get out of his contract and get involved with all the fun that was a new franchise in Miami. He wasted your time, he wasted my time, and he made the White Sox look like a bunch of idiots. Yes, it wasn't him alone. Dunn and Rios falling apart last year and Greg Walker also get their blame. However, Ozzie did not manage to win, and you should at least be willing to admit this, and also willing to move on and enjoy what so far has been a best-case scenario for the White Sox in 2012. Your inability to recognize this makes you the Ozzie Guillen board troll, and also makes me wonder why you don't just root for the Marlins. I support this post.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 08:54 AM) So I was looking into the movie Dark Shadows this past week because I think it looks hilarious...and I realized it is loosely based on a gothic and campy soap opera that aired on ABC in the 60's...anyone ever seen that? There was also a short lived newer version. I think it was in the early 90's? I remember watching it, but I don't remember it being too good. Slow, like a soap opera.
  19. So I believe Peavy has regained his nickname JFP?

I've actually thought about this since Peavy has been pitching so well. I honestly don't see him agreeing to an extension/contract for less than $12+ million/year, especially if he continues pitching this way. He's not exactly old, and if he is truly healthy for the first time in two years, there will be plenty of teams interested. Personally, I'd like to see him back but not at any ridiculously high number. If he'd agree to the 2 year extension for $23 million, I'd be okay with that.

One of the best Mad Men episodes this past Sunday, in my opinion. Good to see some life from Bert Cooper.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 02:37 AM) If you think Ozzie is (was) bad, what do you think of Ned Yost? Even in our worst years, Ozzie had the Sox with a decent record. He's one of the best managers in Sox history if not the best IMO. Ozzie was a good manager, I will admit that. But he was good for only a portion of his time with the Sox. His last 2 years or so, he was arguably a poor manager because he preferred to publicly disagree with the GM and rely on Twitter and other resources to start s***. His antics (already) in Miami show what kind of manager he is, in my opinion.
  23. Holy crap, Peavy looks legit. So, this is the guy we were expecting when the trade happened? Maybe having that muscle detach was one of the better things to happen for him. He looks downright dominant. Dunn with another bomb. Another example of "Oh, so this is what the guy is supposed to do." And Rios? Really? His swing looks so much better. And I think I saw him smile once or twice, too. It's scary to see those three guys (locally known as the "Bums" in Kansas) performing like this. If they can maintain, this team is so much better than most people thought.
  24. Apparent hatred towards AJ and the unsustainability of the Sox numbers so far aside, I am thoroughly enjoying this team right now. I see a lot of the same stuff others are apparently seeing, too. The team seems more relaxed and more unified compared to years past, especially last year. The performances of Rios, Dunn, and Peavy have been better than I think any of us expected or even hoped. We'll see if they can sustain it, but I have a pretty good feeling about this team. No, I'm not saying they will be winning the division, but this is not a 95 loss team.
  25. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) so we start off 9-6 and everyone says "that's not sustainable" if we started out 6-9 you'd all be saying "told you so" can't you just enjoy that your team is performing well? Someone must have not told the Sox they weren't supposed to perform well. Shame on them for playing well and getting our hopes up.
