  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Dan Pompei said they were getting no offers. I cant seem to find this anywhere. The only thing close Ive found is: 6. The lack of trades last night was surprising, given all the talk. Problem was there were more who wanted to move down than up. So that seems to suggest some wanted to move up. The market may not have been amazing, but still I cant imagine that the Chargers wouldnt have been interested in trading up and getting whatever RB they wanted. Now who knows what the value was, but itd be impossible to imagine they wouldnt have offered 1,4,5 for it (which is what they gave San Fran).
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ May 1, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) The problem there is this is a really deep WR class. Yes, White is clearly a cut above the rest but are you gonna give up a big package when you can still get a pretty good WR down where you're already at? Once again, i dont think the Bears were going to get a "Herschel Walker" package, but I do believe that the Bears could have found a team somewhere willing to deal to get a top talent. Maybe not the best deal ever, but more picks is generally a good policy given that the Bears have a lot of issues.
  3. Except for the Chargers traded up 2 spots for a RB. If Kevin White is as spectacular and a cant miss as some are portraying him, there certainly had to be a team willing to give up something for the chance to draft him. I mean the Falcons traded 5 picks (including 2 firsts) for the 6th pick to take Julio. Not saying the Bears would get all of that, but Im sure there were offers.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) Are you accounting for the fact that's there's several hundred more picks after the top 10 than there are top 10 picks? Of course. Which is why I consistently said the Bears should trade down and accumulate picks.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ May 1, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) The bears would have drafted Leonard williams if there, but just because your DE goes does not mean you still draft your next DE. We saw how that works out, his name was Michael Haynes. Get dynamic talent, the rest works itself out. Im not sure that Michael Haynes or defensive ends have anything to do with the fact that historically speaking the most productive wr's have not been picked in the top 10. Thats not an opinion piece, that is an actual fact. So while White may turn into the best wr ever, historically its the guys who are picked later than 10 who go on to become the top players. Maybe the Bears will be ahead of the curve, but guys like Julio Jones, AJ Green, Mike Evans and Calvin Johnson all had multiple 800 yard + seasons. (Those were the only 4 top 10 wrs who were in the top 20 for yards last year). Its not that Im against drafting a WR, I just think that when you take "Bears" blinders off you have to acknowledge that top 10 wrs are historically a risky pick and there is not a lot of Super Bowl teams that were built on a foundation of one. Let alone when you talk about a guy with 1 productive season. Hope that Kevin White becomes the best wr ever, but acting like taking a wr that high is a safe bet is pretty faulty.
  6. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 1, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) 5 of those teams actually drafted those guys and 2 traded 1st round picks to get a WR (which is the same as using your 1st round pick on a WR). You're grasping... And the point remains the same regardless of how good the WRs actually were. You said teams that win the Super Bowl don't use 1st round picks on WRs. Well, it turns out that they do. To be fair to Steve I believe the implication was "top 10" first round draft picks on WRs.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Until they trade another away for 30 cents on the dollar. Buy high, sell low, isnt that the Bears MO? Nice that rhymes.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) Can't trade down If nobody wants the pick sounds like Bears had no action on it. Id have to imagine the Bears got offers, they just may not have gotten the "perfect" offer. No way to know for sure, but I really just dont like another offensive skill position player. Like I said, I hope that he becomes a Pro Bowl player.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) Bears wanted Williams after he got picked by Jets they took BPA in White. Bear defense is not going to be fixed in any one draft. You have to start somewhere. The Bears offense is the side that needs the least improvement. With a quality QB the Bears offense easily could have been top 5 last year. Is Cutler going to be a quality QB this year, who knows. But adding a WR isnt going to change the dynamic of the Bears offense. The smart play would have been to trade down, accumulate picks and improve the defense. I hope Kevin White becomes a pro bowl player, but right now the Bears have 3 guys who can catch a lot of passes already and there are only so many downs.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) QFT This team would be better with Marshall and Vic Beasley/Shelton/Gregory than white + 5 th rounder Im trying to stay positive, but it just seems the Bears had talent at offensive skill positions.
  11. Kevin White may be a fine player, but its hard to believe that they didnt improve the defense.
  12. I just hope its a trade down. Not really wanting a WR and think they can get Shelton or a lb a little later.
  13. Leonard Williams is so close yet so far away.
  14. The good part about being Chip Kelly is that any plane ride back to college has a multimillion dollar contract when he lands.
  15. At least if it fails he tried to do things his way. At least in college he proved he had a pretty clever mind, I am actually interested to see where it will all go.
  16. This type of rumor really seems to support the idea that the Bears dont see themselves as contenders this year. Pretty hard to imagine theyll get equal value to what Bennett brings.

Its actually a very unique situation where I dont really have to get clients. Generally speaking I turn down most of the potential clients unless they are exactly what I am looking for. Flexibility and lifestyle are really my number 1 goals, which pretty much only this firm would provide for even close to a comparable salary. I am getting below market right now, but I also generally work 9:30-5:30 and spend a good amount of that time screwing around on the internet. So really its mainly about how much money can I ask without being completely ridiculous. I mean 100% salary increase sounds insane, but there are other people who make similar and who are not as necessary. I was thinking about trying to ask some people what the salary ranges were, so I could just try and position myself at the high end. They already agreed to me working at home whenever I want, so I think it really becomes are they actually willing to commit to me being partner one day, or do they just want to pay me more and keep that off the table.

So I kind of need to present my bosses with what I want for them to keep me (forever, to use their words). I can negotiate a lot of things, but Ive never asked for a raise in my life. I dont want to insult them but I definitely want to ask for enough that their first answer is a counter. Any suggestions?

I go back and forth on it. I am going to keep an open mind while they develop it.
  20. He got mlb experience. Sometimes it can difficult to balance winning and trying to help a guy progress, especially a pitcher because if a hitter goes 0-4 with 4 k's, its not necessarily a loss, but if the pitcher does bad it probably is. Thats just the reality of baseball. So they put Rondon in a position where at worst if he doesnt succeed the loss "wasnt his fault." I am not sure what everyone's expectations are this year, but for the long term its better that Rondon gets experience now. Cause the only way to get comfortable being in the majors is to actually be in the majors.
  21. Saw a website that said Bears trying to move Cutler + 1st to Titans for their 1st. I cant really imagine that happening.
  22. The reality is Wisconsin may never have that good of a chance again. They werent a fluke, they could be the best team in basketball on any night. Unfortunately tonight they had to play good, they played okay. That just wasnt enough.
  23. Wisconsin could have played better, they didnt. Tough game to lose but they didnt play that well on offense.
  24. Not sure what Wisconsin is doing.
