QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Well those who are anti-abortion are probably not fond of placing a dollar value on what they feel is a human life every bit as viable and important as yours or mine. And that is also of course why most don't feel that it's just a personal decision. If a human life is so important to them they should have no problem paying extremely high taxes to pay to help everyone else. It cant be both ways, you cant argue to cut social services for people who are alive and at the same time argue that unborn lives are so important.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) It makes me sick to see how high that abortion number is. Someone might go, well our population is huge so relative, but man, that is 327,000 lives. Okay...I am probably assuming high since some won't end up going full term and miscarriage, but even then, you are talking about 300,000 lives. I won't force the hand of other people and what they should do, I just wish 327,000 people weren't in a position that they were doing that. And lets be honest...number probably isn't 327,000 as I'd presume their are some repeaters on that list (sadly). They are potential lives. That being said the part I dont get about the Republican anti-abortion sentiment is the cost of abortion is far less than the cost of supporting someone for 18 years. Potentially 300k+ mouths to feed each year would be a significant burden on social services which would mean higher taxes just to keep similar services. At the end of the day abortion is a personal decision and no one seems to be stepping up and saying "Ill pay for those 300k+ potential lives each year" and that is not even counting all of the medical bills that go into having a child. I think a good first step is providing birth control for free.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) You're wrong. I had a 410 shotgun at home that was never once used to kill or hurt anything. I had a clay disc shooter and I shot discs in the air. People keep handguns at home for the same reason. After thinking about it, if a city/county/whatever wants to allow people to have a gun range on their property, thats okay. Honestly, I never even considered that as possibly being legal, but that is probably because Im from north suburbs/chicago so Ill concede that a rural area may allow something like that. And that is just like a pool, its a risk, but if your neighbor doesnt like it he can 1) move or 2) petition the city (whoever) to change the laws.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Well, then don't inject yourself into the argument that's being had. And great, I'm glad you concede your original point that guns have no other purpose than hurting or killing people is wrong. Guns at home are, which is what you are arguing for. I may have missed a word in the original statement, but Im pretty confident everyone knew I was talking about guns at home.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) If we're passing gun bans to protect people from committing suicide how is that not a law to protect me from me? Sport? Target practice? You don't have to hurt or kill something to enjoy a gun. 1) Suicide isnt my argument. 2) I have no problem with people having guns that are stored at a gun range and only allowed to be used on the premises.

Jenks, You are all over the place. Last time I checked eating McDonalds couldnt accidentally kill my neighbor. There is a huge difference between laws that are designed to "protect me from me" and laws that are designed to "protect me from you." (edit) What is a gun good for besides for the above purposes? And before you answer to quick, hunting is "hurting or killing" something. Unless you are going to reference the Simpsons episode where Homer uses his gun to change the channel, because as we all know, guns make great remote controls.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) Of course the problem with this is the myth-making to prove your point. We've had concealed carry for decades now. Those events don't happen on a regular basis. They're incredibly rare. People who leave their guns around for kids are irresponsible. Some are morons, some just made awful, regrettable mistakes. But so are people that let their kids drown in pools. It's a sad tragedy in both cases, but in the one instance we don't all scream "ban pools!" Why not? More kids die from that than from guns. Because pools have a purpose outside of scaring/hurting/killing things. Why not just let people have nuclear weapons? Less people die per year from nukes than peanuts, so obviously peanuts are more dangerous. This line of argument is extremely boring.

The Cavs have had double digit leads each game. Say what you will but they are the team that is closer to 3-0.

Kind of feeling Cleveland tonight.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:00 PM) Phil Jackson rode his players hard, and they practiced very hard. If Thibs is Collins and Hoiberg is Phil, now all we need is Michael and Scottie. Yes, he's a little more Zen-like, a lot more unconventional. Taj Gibson, one guy they are trying to pin all his injuries on Thibs, loved him. Rose loved him. I read something where Phil used to pick on Horace Grant on purpose because he was very popular with his teammates and they would rally around him. Horace hated it, but apparently it worked. There was no need for the JR press release. There was no need for GarPax to say anything more than they appreciate what Thibs did, it was time to move on. To me there are 2 factors. Obviously both sides hated each other. The second factor is, they can't beat LeBron. They won't be able to really shake up their core for a year or 2, so Hoiberg is their way to try something else. There is no need to leak the offense was horrible, because it wasn't. There was no need to leak the players wanted Thibs out. Cowley got a player BEFORE that came out and the player said GarPax spent the exit interview slamming Thibs. It will be interesting to see how Hoiberg transistions to the NBA. I do know one thing, if this is basically the roster, they won't beat Cleveland next year either. I dont care about the press release. I am strictly talking about the performance of the coach. Right or wrong, many believed the Bulls have had a lot of talent the last 5 years. Eventually when that doesnt pan out, someone has to be held responsible. I personally think that with another coach than Thibs the Bulls would have done considerably better in the playoffs the last 5 years. But that is merely speculation and based on that speculation I can absolutely understand why they fired him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 05:37 AM) It is funny how the Bulls smear campaign organized months ago vs Thibs has been successful. Even thiugh he coached without his best player more than half the games during his tenure, he has a.top 5 all time winning percentage. His offense is old, horrible etc. yet somehow it was top 10 in efficiency with guys like Aaron Brooks and Kirk Hinrich getting decent minutes. He ran players into the ground, yet the only 2 with real heavy minutes were Pau, having his best season in years, and Jimmy Buckets, who somehow overcame being run into the ground last year and this to be voted the leagues most improved player. Maybe Thibs had to go, but there is no basketball reason that needed to happen. The hatchet job started stealthfully months ago, and kept on continuing. Just the other day i heard a media member slammimg Thibs for playing Noah 40 minutes a night on one leg. He played 40 minutes in 2 games this year. One was OT, one was double OT. The total lack of class the Bulls organization showed will bite them in the ass one day. I hope the Mayor succeeds, but I doubt he will squeeze more wins out of the team if the players reamin the same and Rose plays less than half the time. Yes there was a basketball reason. I posted about the problem with Thibs for years on this board. This wasnt "a few months ago", years ago I said that Thibs was a taskmaster coach and coaches like that rarely win the entire thing. Here are the posts: Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:19 PM I like Thibs, but I sometimes wonder if hes more Doug Collins than Phil Jackson. post Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:58 PM Doug Collins may have won 1, but I dont know if he would have won 6. Thats the point, task master coaches wear on guys and while they often can get more out of less to begin with, they can also eventually wear on people and that sometimes results in getting less out of more. And my statement was "sometimes I wonder" not exactly extremely critical. ----------------------------------- The bottom line is not once in Thibs career did he overachieve in the playoffs. Blame injuries, blame whatever, but after 5 years of underachieving when it counted, something had to give. The Cleveland series was a repeat of the first Bulls-Heat series. Bulls win game 1, the other team makes adjustments, the Bulls dont.

Good luck, Cubs have always been for the bandwagon/front runner/fair weather crowd.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) How they expect him to get into any sort of rhythm or comfort zone is beyond me at this point. This year is a learning experience. Missing a game or two is unlikely to have an impact on his long term potential. Ruining his arm on the other hand...

QUOTE (Brian @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Thibs got this team to one point. Next coach has to get them over the hump next year. Years ago I was crucified by many on this board when I said that Thibs could only get the Bulls so far.

Wisconsin just got a kid named Andy Van Vilet. Every time I see it I think of Art Vandelay.

Im not really into drinking, but went to Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee and I can report that their "White" was one of the few beers ive ever liked in my life.

I met with them, they basically said that they envision me managing within the next few years. They gave me a slight raise immediately (approx 5%) and then I asked that I be paid in the top half of the other attorneys in our firm. Probably not my best negotiation but getting more money today is always nice and I can still always leave haha.

Cleveland looks like they barely care, gotta keep the pressure up.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) there were some twitter rumors that the Bears were extremely frugal with UDFA this year because they want to make a run at Collins Its really surprising no one wasted a 7th on him.
-
The 2nd/3rd round picks look solid. Not many NTs in a 3-4 scheme are going to be considered "pass rushers", but that really isnt their job.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 1, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) That is a horrifically high bust rate when you look at that list. That said, people seem to think receivers are built to adjust much easier now than even 3-4 years ago. We shall see though. Obviously the past doesnt mean anything and White could be the best wr ever. Its just a risky pick, and based on that its somewhat surprising that the Bears (a team who presumably is rebuilding) would start the rebuild with a WR. Not to mention I think a lot of my concern is based on the fact that a wr is dependent on a QB.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 1, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) So those were the only 4 in the top 20...but out of that era of players drafted, what other ones taken in top 10 didn't show up on that list? Ill see if I can find that information without having to do a ton of work, here is a list I found: http://nesn.com/2011/02/drafting-wide-rece...iving-thoughts/ David Terrell (Bears, No. 8, 2001) Koren Robinson (Seahawks, No. 9, 2001) Charles Rogers (Lions, No. 2, 2003) Andre Johnson (Texans, No. 3, 2003) Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals, No. 3, 2004) Roy Williams (Lions, No. 7, 2004) Reggie Williams (Jaguars, No. 9, 2004) Braylon Edwards (Browns, No. 3, 2005) Troy Williamson (Vikings, No. 7, 2005) Mike Williams (Lions, No. 10, 2005) Calvin Johnson (Lions, No. 2, 2007) Ted Ginn Jr. (Dolphins, No. 9, 2007) Darrius Heyward-Bey (Raiders, No. 9, 2009) Michael Crabtree (49ers, No. 10, 2009) 2011 AJ and Julio 2012 Justin Blackmon 2013 Tavon Austin 2014 Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans So from 2007 on the answer would be: Ted Ginn, Heyward-Bey, Michael Crabtree, Blackmon, Austin
