  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) Kerr played under Phil Jackson and Pop, two of the best coaches in the history of the game, he was broadcaster for 5-6 years, he was a GM for a number of years...I mean, he's been in and around the NBA for the last 25+ years. Hoiberg can't say the same thing. The knowledge base is completely different. I think you missed the point entirely. I wasnt saying Hoiberg was Steve Kerr, I was saying comparing Hoiberg to Penny is the equivalent of comparing Hoiberg to Kerr. Both make 0 sense.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) I doubt anyone could help, but it's worth a try. So my university has a strong stance against violating copyright laws, torrents, etc. Anyways, I was watching a movie last Monday night and I passed out. Tuesday morning I grabbed my laptop and brought to school and when I opened it up I still had the torrent host (Popcorn-Time) open. All of a sudden I wasn't able to get onto the wifi and realized my account has probably been barred as a result of using Popcorn-Time. So I called the IT department, they confirmed that was the issue and I set up an appointment with the assistant dean. She says I have to remove all torrenting programs from my computer or else I could receive a penalty. The thing is, I've had Popcorn-Time on my computer all year I just haven't opened it up while using the school wifi. Am I safe to keep the program on my computer or could the outsourced internet security agency pick it up when the application is inactive? Here is the better answer, is whatever punishment from the school worth torrenting? Im going to say, unlikely. Just a random guess but school tuition >>>>> paying for a movie.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) No it isn't, Hoiberg isn't a moron, it is still basketball. There may be a downgrade, but I don't think it is nearly as big as you are making it out to be. IMHO basketball is the sport where players win championships, especially NBA. Not to mention, how can someone compare Hoiberg to Brad Penny. Hoiberg never even coached in the NBA. If you want to make random comparisons, why not Steve Kerr. Hoiberg and Kerr are both white guys who played for the Bulls, so they gotta be the same right? And even then, is Kerr a "good coach" or does he just have a good team. Outside of Popovich, I really just dont see most NBA coaches as being game changers.

Tried 3 new shows. 1) Better Call Saul. So I was pretty cautious about this show and thought Id be disappointed. I was wrong. Its been really good. 2) 12 Monkeys. The movie was great, the show is average. Ill keep watching, but I wont waste DVR space on it. 3) Allegiance. If you like this show watch The Americans. If after watching The Americans you still want more US/Russia spy tv watch Allegiance. I can not stress enough how good The Americans is.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) That organization I was the ring announcer for wants me to do a few more shows...they're actually bringing in some "names" too. One show will have Robbie E and Chase Stevens, and the other one has me excited as hell, the Jewish God of wrestling Colt Cabana....so stoked Fun fact, Colt Cabana's brother writes for Family Guy. http://familyguy.wikia.com/wiki/Greg_Colton My ex's family was friends with his family.
  7. http://philadelphia.suntimes.com/philadelp...ks-jets-mariota If this is true it sucks the Bears didnt get a higher pick.
  8. Yeah i always tip 20%+ after tax, but I dont tip on carry out.
  9. I believe that ISIS goal is to actually take over the world. http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/08/isis-thr...he-white-house/ “We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House,” he added.
  10. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Based on the Atlantic article about ISIS, however, it appears part of the reason ISIS is a different animal is their aims are regional - ie, building a caliphate in the Middle East. So based on that, one could argue that they are less of a threat to the US than Al Qaida ever was. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) A war that started over an assassination and entangling alliances isn't really an apt comparison. Its actually a great comparison. The reason why ISIS is a different threat is that they could destabilize the region. The reason I pointed to WWI is because the region where the assassination occurred, the Balkans, was considered the "powder keg of Europe." If you look at the Middle East with a variety of different countries backed by different proxy powers, you could have a similar result where ISIS destabilization leads to a much larger war where countries such as Israel, Iran, US and Russia are eventually dragged in to support their regional allies. Going to war with ISIS isnt about beheading people, its about protecting borders of allies, most specifically Iraq/Saudi Arabia, but partially Israel as well. There is a reason why the US is extremely involved in the Middle East and not so much in areas dealing with Boko Haram. It isnt about body counts, its about the potential long term impact of ISIS on the Middle East, and what the fall out could be if they were successful. Again, they dont just want to stop where they are at, they want to take Saudi Arabia and other areas too. Strange Sox, Thats just opinion. In my opinion there is no way that letting ISIS succeed in the Middle East will ever result in "good" for the US.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) back-to-back-to-back-to-back failures costing trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives over about 13 years doesn't seem all that small scale, and Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and now Syria were never going to develop into a legitimate "large scale" threats to the United States. Austria-Hungary was never going to be a legitimate threat to the United States, but it certainly played a role in starting World War I, which resulted in a pretty catastrophic path. You can count the legitimate threats to the US on one hand. So if that is the threshold, the US should never get involved anywhere, because it really doesnt concern us.
  12. Actually for all of the bad, you can make a pretty legitimate argument that by getting involved in "small scale" conflicts the US has avoided there being a "large scale" conflict. Id love to imagine a world with no military conflict, but, historically speaking, peace is the outlier.
  13. Aren't you just arguing semantics? Any attack is "deliberate" in the sense that they meant to hurt someone, but at the same time the place/targets/etc is seemingly "random". When I read these type of things I feel like there is some suggestion that Obama is anti-christian, which just seems kind of odd. And the main thing is, I really dont care. The US isn't secretly supporting ISIS.
  14. Do you have the actual quotes? I can guess at the strategy behind it, but without seeing exactly what was said its mere speculation.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 05:38 PM) We're in a thread discussing how both our allies and our enemies are beheading hundreds of people and killing thousands of others. Yeah, I think this is a particularly impressive case. Well its completely irrelevant. We arent fighting ISIS because they behead people. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) No one else is at least critical of that? Seriously? Not at least an internal "yeah that's pretty f***ed up?" Im not sure what Im supposed to be mad about?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Sure the last 4 times we've bombed countries in the middle east it's been an abject disaster, but 5th time's the charm. Perhaps you are familiar with technology that lets you view how the world would be if we did not bomb them? Its always easy to say that things would be better if we did nothing. Maybe the Civil War doesnt happen if the US doesnt declare independence from GB. Maybe there is no WWI or WWII. I cant quantify which is better. I can say that eventually, no matter what we did, it would be up to the people in those regions to determine their own fate. So perhaps the US bombing accelerated the process, perhaps it did nothing. I dont know, but I dont generally believe that you stick your head in the sand and pretend that doing nothing solves all the problems.
  17. Eh. Plans are never a guarantee. Sometimes you have to stop something bad and hope for the best.
  18. Just got something about bespoke tailoring in the mail at my office. Im thinking its somehow related to this thread.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) I own two suits (one grey and one charcoal pinstripe), but I only wear one of them these days, and I rarely wear it at that. But it is quite nice, it's a BB Golden Fleece. As for shoes, depends on my mood -- I'm a big believer in "dressing the part", so I can be just as comfortable in any environment. These are my latest boots, however: http://www.amazon.com/Marc-New-York-Andrew...+new+york+boots I will state that I'm the guy at your office (there is always one of us), that seemingly gets away with wearing whatever he wants, even if its against dress code. Today, I'm wearing Solomon Speedcross 3 off road sneakers, along with dress pants and a sweater type nice shirt...because I felt like it. I wear a hoodie, jeans and a graphic t-shirt a lot of days when I dont go to court. I hate expensive things so I get my ties at Nordstrom Rack (youd be surprised how many people ask where I get them), my suits are from random Macy's sales and my shoes are from DSW.
  20. Its unfortunate that these kids dont come from rich neighborhoods, then it would have been as simple as renting an apartment in the right district. The lesson here is if youre going to cheat, dont get caught. Because Id be hard pressed to find any competitive person who didnt try and get an "edge".
  21. Yeah pretty clever waiting until after signing day. Obviously not a coincidence.
  22. I think my opinion on the draft are well known, but it wasnt so much what McDermott could do, it was more that with Mirotic coming over the pick was seemingly redundant when the Bulls could have tried to get guys to help at SF/SG/PG.
  23. Here is what I said about Thibs almost 3 years ago to the day: (February 2, 2012) I like Thibs, but I sometimes wonder if hes more Doug Collins than Phil Jackson. --- I was making a generality about task master coaches and whether they are the ones who can ultimately bring a team to the promise land, thus the Collins/Jackson comparison, as compared to Skiles who never took his team to the ECF (which Thibs and Collins did). Thus the comparison of 2 coaches who went to the ECF. --- Doug Collins may have won 1, but I dont know if he would have won 6. Thats the point, task master coaches wear on guys and while they often can get more out of less to begin with, they can also eventually wear on people and that sometimes results in getting less out of more.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Someone has to figure out how Poppovich has maintained such success Most likely because he uses this thing called "strategy". But everyone knows Ive never been a Thibodeau fan.
