  1. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) If the list only had one show, Arrested Development, I would have been satisfied. It's on there. Everyone keeps telling me to check that show out, but I haven't seen an episode as of yet. What channel has reruns?
  2. BTW, I'm assuming that "The Three Stooges" and "The Marx Bros" don't qualify because all of that stuff was aired in theaters, correct?
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) I'll agree with you if we can replace Beverly Hills with Rockford Files. Yeah, but Kid, you can not possibly deny the impact that Beverly Hills 90210 had on pop culture. It was everywhere; you couldn't avoid it. Every girl that I knew back in the early 90s had Luke Perry or Jason Priestly posters hanging up on their walls. Or worse yet, Brian Austin Green posters.
  4. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) You watch that butt? I don't think it gets any cornier than "Married With Children", but if we were talking about a Top 200 list, you wouldn't hear me complaining. However, in light of what has been excluded, I can not let this ride.
  5. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 06:19 PM) You can argue those that are missing, but with the exception of a few here and there, you can't argue those that are there. I just don't know what to think after seeing these: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Felicity Gilmore Girls Married With Children Pee Wee's Playhouse Spongebob Squarepants And not seeing these: Law & Order Beverly Hills 90210 Curb Your Enthusiasm Chappelle Show Family Guy I'm not saying that I like Beverly Hills 90210, but it was pretty much the most popular show on television for like a 5 year stretch. And yet, Felicity gets the nod? I won't argue with the rest of it. To me, shows like Survivor and American Idol are complete and utter suckfests, but I do recognize their impact on pop culture. The exclusion of Law & Order is the one that really has me shaking my head, though.
  6. Pee Wee's Playhouse is listed, but Law & Order isn't. Where are the Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock shows? What about Inside The NFL during the Dawson/Buonicotti/Collinsworth years? I'm not that big a fan of Family Guy, but where in the hell is it? "MTV 1981-1992" -- What happened in 1993? Why is 1992 the cut-off point? I see Gilmore Girls, Felicity, etc, but no Beverly Hills 90210? I could probably sit here all day pointing out major flaws. That list is atrocious, mang.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) I don't buy it at all, but the internet says so, so it must be true. You need to grow some hair on your legs, son.
  8. I think that Andre is a borderline Hall of Famer. A copy & paste job from the Rock Raines thread:
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) Let's see... David Price will enter next season as a top five pitching prospect without even having thrown a pitch in professional baseball. Evan Longoria just had a .900+ OPS year in AA/AAA and is considered a top prospect in the game. Jeff Niemann, after multiple injuries, looks to have put himself back on the radar screen with a decent season for Durham. At the very worst it's looking like he can be a good back-of-the-rotation pitcher. Delmon Young just turned 22 and is already hitting at a league average (ish) level. BJ Upton is going to finish the year hitting .300 with over 50 extra basehits by the end of the year. Way to bring up the worst example possible. I'll also note that four of the above five guys would be top prospects/young players in the Sox organization right now. I love it when people who have no clue what they're talking about try to make a point... Yeah, not to mention the fact that their payroll is only 30 million or thereabouts. They might have the worst bullpen and back-of-the-rotation starters in the history of baseball, but they simply don't have the bread to hire competent veteran pitchers. Their offensive core is magnificent, though.
  10. QUOTE(sti3 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) BTW, I purchased the Talent Fest CD when it came out based on hearing "Bouncin' Off The Walls" on WHPK. Do I get any oldschool props for that? I've got it too. "Bouncin' Off The Walls" is easily my favorite track on the Talent Fest CD. Talk about a great PNS beat. I also love the Undaground Solution track "Sandbox".
  11. QUOTE(sti3 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 02:07 AM) Re: Molemen: Those guys fell the f__k off and were never that great, only solid and prolific. The beats on Vakill's last album were lifeless. PNS and Memo were good producers, but I'd say that Panik was phenomenal. If you can find Panik's "Vinyl Edition" Instrumental LP, snatch it up. Actually, if you're internet savvy, one simple google search will provide you with some rapidshare or zshare links for this LP: 1 - Vakill - 'Out The Speakers' (Instrumental) 2 - E.C., Rubberoom - 'Taste Of Chicago' instrumental (Instrumental) 3 - Vakill, Rhymefest, Percee P. - 'Keep The Fame' (Instrumental) 4 - Juice - 'Key To The City' (Instrumental) 5 - Rasco + Planet Asia - 'Sophisticated Mic Pro's' (Instrumental) 6 - Vinnie Paz - 'Raw Is War' (Instrumental) 7 - Rhymefest - 'Much Of Nothing' (Instrumental) 8 - Cali Agents - 'This Is My Life' (Instrumental) 9 - Vakill - 'Dungeons 2 Rooftops' (Instrumental) 10 - Ang 13 - 'Coming Through Alert' (Instrumental) 11 - All Natural - 'It's OK' (Instrumental) 12 - Rasco - 'Back On The Scene' (Instrumental) 13 - Vakill - 'Tiz The Seizin' (Instrumental) 14 - Cali Agents - 'The Anthem' (Instrumental) 15 - Rhymefest - 'How We Chill' (Instrumental) 16 - Rhymefest & Juice - 'How We Chill Pt. 2' (Instrumental) 17 - Juice - 'Freestyle Or Written' (Instrumental) 18 - Mass Hysteria - 'Vocabulary Spill' (Instrumental) 19 - Juice - 'Sincerely' (Instrumental) 20 - Exclusive (Instrumental) 21 - Vakill - 'Flows U Can't Imagine' (Instrumental) And this is just a collection of tracks that got the full 12" treatment. There are quite a few tape-only EPs with amazing Panik beats that you can't find anywhere. The only reason that I have them is because I was up at Gramaphone every week in the mid-90s. PNS had his moments as far as producing was concerned, but he was much more talented behind the wheels. I have something like 35 to 40 of his mixtapes (lost of "Liverrors" broadcasts on 88.5 FM that he released on tape, etc). He's also the guy that made fun of Kanye on the "Chicago Rocks" mixtapes. He dedicated a little ditty to him titled "I Make The Beats That You Can Feel In Your Chest". This was back in late 1994/early 1995. QUOTE(sti3 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 02:07 AM) HJ, on "Big Brother" he says "No ID my mentor" on every chorus. Well, I hope that he's sending him some bread.
  12. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Even Jurassic 5? Speaking of Chicago guys, wow, Chali Tuna is a madman. I got some of his solo demos from the mid-90s. Amazing stuff. I was never a big fan of J5, but I love Chali Tuna.
  13. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) back in 94 kanye would've been 17 years old, who cares. In hip hop terms, 17 isn't young at all. Point is, he got clowned by the Molemen something fierce, and the Molemen were down with pretty much every hip hop crew, radio DJ, hip hop editorialist, etc in this city back in the mid-90s. What made this style-biting joker the exception?
  14. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) And I like to support Chicago artists....as long as they're worth supporting. Are you familiar with 1993-1996 Chicago era stuff? It was mostly tape-only releases, but the scene was booming. Stony Island, Kinetic Order, Rhymefest, All Natural, Juice, Sidewalk Scholars, Akbar, East Of The Rock, Spelany's, Tony Baines, Thawfor, Rubberoom, Rabies, Mindspace, Stedy Serv, Fierce, Undaground Solution, Vakill, Whatnoxic, etc? I always thought that Common Sense was a smug little prick, and I really only like his debut album from 1992. His producer NO ID, on the other hand, is one of my favorites. He went by the name of Immenslope early on; he produced "Soul By The Pound", "Charms Alarm", etc, in addition to Common's second album "Resurrection", which is a masterpiece from a production standpoint. I've heard some of Kanye's mellow beats, and it's basically just NO ID's style. It's funny too, because back in 1994, Kanye was a wack-ass nobody that the Molemen used to make fun of on their mixtapes.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) Did he do their latest album? I'm not feeling it. And no Tim Dog?!?! You know, I haven't been checking for any new hip hop since 2001 or thereabouts. I consider everything to be crap nowadays, but that's just me.
  16. QUOTE(sti3 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) Penicillin on Wax has great beats and memorable, if crude, lyrics. Oh yeah, any time Ced Gee is involved, you're gonna have some classic beats. He's easily a Top 10 producer in the history of hip hop, what with the Ultramagnetic albums and BDP's "Criminal Minded" under his belt. QUOTE(sti3 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) His album with Kool Keith as Ultra, Big Time, has actually stood the test of time pretty well. I like Keith's verses on "Ain't Nobody Happenin" and "Industry Is Wack", but I thought that the album was a waste of money at the time. The "Industry Is Wack/Ain't Nobody Happenin" 12" is great, what with the Kutmasta Kurt instrumentals.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) I've tried to like music in this genre, but I find very little in it of any musical value. Its kind of like horror flicks - a genre that is done often, and usually is both unoriginal and crappy. Once in a while, though, you get a winner. You never got into hip hop in the mid-to-late late 80s/early 90s? No RUN DMC, Public Enemy, Rakim, KRS-ONE, Slick Rick, Juice Crew, De La Soul, Main Source, Ultramagnetic MCs, EPMD, K-Solo, Gangstarr, Organized Konfusion, Sadat X, O.C., L.O.N.S., Freestyle Fellowship, Pharcyde, Del, etc?
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) If you haven't heard the glory that is Tim Dog than you are living a deprived life. Funny thing is I'm sort of serious. I'm one of the few people on Earth that enjoys his work. But this is not a recommendation for you to seek out his discography. WTF, a Tim Dog recommendation? He had his moments from 1990 to 1993. "I Get Wrecked" is probably my favorite track from his catalogue, although he says some corny sh*t in the second verse. He's better than Ced Gee, though. At least he had that going for him.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:40 AM) 2 teams traded for and 3 teams released Carlos Pena. I still can't get over the fact that Carlos is slugging .612. 1. Alex Rodriguez .667 2. Ryan Braun .641 3. Prince Fielder .613 4. Carlos Pena .612 5. David Ortiz .599 Sure, you could see that he had 100+ walk potential and pretty good power when he was with the Tigers, but he was also hitting like .240. He's currently at .280, which is quite an accomplishment considering that he's 29 years of age with a lifetime .250 average in over 2000 ABs. I won't go so far as to call this season a fluke, but I definitely want to see if he can do it again in 2008.
  20. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) It's "It ain't no thang but a chicken wang." C'mon HJ, I thought you were Hip. I promised myself that I'd never talk about wangs on here. That's fathom's department.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Dillon and Benson are similar backs. I don't know if I'd go as far as to say that they're similar. Dillon is finesse, and Benson is rugged. Are you talking body type? I'm definitely pulling for Cedric. He has the upside of a poor man's Jamal Lewis (the 2001 version), which is fine by me. I don't know why people are saying that he's soft. Dude is most definitely confrontational in a football sense; he's not trying to avoid high-impact collisions, and he takes pride in running people over. It seems to me that a soft back would try to avoid a heads-up collision with an LB. He needs to lower his shoulders a bit and keep his head up, but he obviously has the talent to be a nice running back. I mean, the dude came into this season with less than 250 career carries. Maybe we should give him a chance to prove himself, yeah? The Bears fan base = sore vaginal status. I get sick and tired of the constant b*tching and moaning, but I'll live with the crap.
  22. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:01 AM) Does that mean they also lose the other 2008 first round pick they acquired from the 49ers this year? I don't think it does. So they still have a first round pick. Seems like they were prepared. Belicheck's got back-up plans for back-up plans, let me tell ya.
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) Was Ryan responsible for this? December 16, 2002: Released by the Minnesota Twins. Plenty of GMs release perennial MVP candidates. It ain't no thing but a chicken wing.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) To have English only do you mind waiting longer in line while other citizens and visitors try to make sense out of English forms? Hell no. I frequent two different post offices in the vicinity of the Harlem & Irving Plaza, and both have Polish attendants who assist people with forms while they are waiting in line. There could be 20 people in line, and at least 2/3 of them will not understand English. People will think that I'm exaggerating, but it's the truth. Go to the post office on Oakton and Waukegan road in Niles, and you'll find three Asian clerks. There is a huge Asian population in Morton Grove/Skokie, so it only makes sense. If you're in southern Texas, you damn well better have attendants and clerks that can speak Spanish. Seriously though, welcome to America. English? WTF is that?
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) What's funny is people think Frank is having a good year Cool it with the cheap shots, Dick. We know that this ain't exactly vintage Frank.
