  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 04:55 AM) I'd rank Basketball #1, Football #2 That sounds about right to me. I looked over every NFL draft since 1970, and I could only find three legendary defensive players taken with a top 3 selection: Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Smith, and Randy White. Julius Peppers is well on his way, but that's still pretty weak.
  2. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Hell, there's two guys on the Padres alone that deserve it more than he does. Yep, no question. Hell, minus Barrett, Peavy might be 19-1. His road stats: 1.22 ERA 0.90 WHIP .163 BAA 2 HR allowed And going into yesterday's game, Chris Young led the majors in ERA, WHIP, and BAA, but Peavy just took his ERA crown away. Chris also has a 1.14 WHIP and .207 BAA on the road, which would be pretty much the best line in the majors if not for Peavy.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) but I couldn't figure out the point. Yeah, that happened yesterday too. OMFG nonsequitor! It's incongruous! This happened once before, When I came to your door, No reply. They said it wasn't you, But I saw you peep through.....your window. I saw the lie, I saw the lie, I know that you saw me, 'cause I looked up to see....your face. I tried to telephone, They said you were not home, That's a lie-ie-ie-ie
  4. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Who is anyone to say who can or can't get married. Yeah, but what about siblings?
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) So his post was a preemptive fire-and-brimstone derision? Still makes no sense. I have a new post for some thread in PHT: This Roger Clemens crap is getting annoying. Is Roger a good baseball player? Yes. Would I trade for him? No. Would John Schuerholz trade for him? Heck no. Do I have John's home phone number? Maybe. Clemens sucks at pitching, and he is too old. Is your new post going to be included in a PHT thread about the possible acquisition of Roger Clemens? You do realize that he is talking about Larry Craig in a thread about Larry Craig, yeah? I don't know why people are out to get Greg. He is your Soxtalk president. Treat him as such.
  6. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) I still don't hear people defending him. I hear people questioning why he was arrested for waving his hand under a stall and tapping his foot (since that is all the stories, so far, say happened), but i don't think I have heard anyone saying he was setup, or innocent, etc. Greg could have been talking about some random asshole in Idaho talking to his wife and kids at the dinner table. That's what I mean by "general terms". There will undoubtedly be some percentage of the public that backs this guy's story.
  7. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) many people on this board are affected negatively on a daily basis as a result of the cub success Yeah, and I don't feel bad for them at all. I'm from the NW side and I've had zero incidents in my life where I was negatively affected by some Cubs vs Sox nonsense. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's due to a lack of passion, either. I just don't see the point of engaging in debate with meatheads.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Why would anyone bother to defend this guy? He's clearly not worthy of defense. But then again, the human willingness to defend someone for the indefensible never ceases to amaze me. This is stated in general terms, y'all.
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) So, Minaya isn't a better GM than Kenny, but he's on your list of "better GMs than Kenny." Thanks for clearing that up. Where did Greg contradict himself? He merely stated that he wasn't trying to convince you of anything. Why are you putting words into his mouth? I'm itching to call you a meathead, as always, but I'll refrain from the personal attacks.
  10. QUOTE(LukeGofannon @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) Brad Wilkerson in 2004, 107 games in the lead off spot 32 HR 67 RBI. Good call. He had 25 solo HRs that year, and Chris currently has 23. Brad also drew 106 walks and had a .374 OBP, so I could see why they kept him in the leadoff slot. Yeah, he was swinging for the fences with nobody on base, which is a pretty good indication as to where a guy's head is at, but he had great plate discipline at the same time, so it's an odd case. I don't know what happened to him; he just turned 30 in June, so he should be peaking, but his OBP is at .304 in 285 ABs. I know that he's always got some nagging injury, though.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) As I read my last post, I suppose I should explain why I think a GM doesn't win a world series, since I seem to be alone in that view... Yes, you are most definitely alone in that view. The man with the blueprints always gets the most credit. There are no exceptions.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Devil's advocate... It was 3 in the morning... could he have just fallen asleep at the wheel? Happens to truck drivers all the time. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Or maybe he slipped off the road turning too hard or whatever, crashed his car, got pissed off at himself and decided to sleep on it and take care of it in the morning because it was past 3 AM. He most definitely had something to hide. A sober Forrest Gump might have jetted the f*ck outta there after crashing his car, though.
  13. Damn, I didn't want to know that about Tommie Harris. And Briggs? The guy is hopelessly retarded.
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) How dare you mention them and forget the disgusting name of Jeff Weaver. Yeah, him too. There's some footage of Mike Sweeney pounding on Jeff in this ESPN "Top 10 Brawls" segment: Top 10
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Or as manager of the 2000 Tigers when the Sox and Pussies tangled twice in one day... Brawl Part 1 Brawl Part 2 Brawl Part 3 My hatred for Robert Fick, Juan Encarnacion, Bobby Higginson, and Karim Garcia had all but faded until you mentioned the brawl.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) I can post pictures of actual girls I date as my avatar and see if the nerd connotation sticks. There is nothing that you can do about the nerd connotation. And for the love of god, get a wife. I don't know, she looks pretty good to me. But then again, I am a heterosexual male.
  17. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) The only element lacking is OBP, and his minor league numbers suggest that won't be a problem for long. He had a 45 game stretch from late April through mid-June where he only drew 3 walks in roughly 175 plate appearances. That's quality. As a minor leaguer, he drew one walk per seven plate appearances between 2003 and 2005, so yeah, I guess that there's a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a very dim light.
  18. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) Granderson is really threatening the 20-20-20-20 2 triples a couple nights ago brings him to 21. An inside the park homer today brings him to 17. A stolen base today brings him to 16. And he had the doubles long ago. Dude is simply amazing.
  19. Well, if he's gonna swing for the fences every time, they might want to put him in the fifth or sixth slot. The guy is gonna hit like 35 HRs, and finish with less than 70 RBI. I've never heard of anything like that.
  20. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 02:31 AM) heh i bet the cubs wish they were able to sign him Well, let's not act like he's some hot commodity that people are picking him up in fantasy leagues or whatever. He's still kind of a scrub, for all intents and purposes. His ERA was up over 5.00 coming into August. His WHIP, BAA, and K/9IP numbers don't do anything for me. And yeah, I printed out the minor league numbers and wiped my ass with them.
  21. I'll reserve judgement until the toxicology reports are released, but this sounds an awful lot like a suicide to me. Poor guy. RIP.
  22. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) Crede and Owens for Figgins. Chone's batting average was .461 in June, .351 in July, and he's hitting .352 in August. Crede and Owens, you say? Do you have any other trade ideas? I'd love to hear them.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) -When a police officer pulls you over, what rights does a cop have as far as searching your car? Do they have to have some "reasonable suspicion" or are they alowed to just go through your car? Automobile searches without a warrant are legal if they are incidental to an arrest, or if the cops have reason to believe that you are transporting something illegal. Otherwise, anything that they find via a warrantless search would be inadmissible in court. There is also the "Plain View Doctrine", which enables the cops to seize illegal items in plain view & submit them as evidence in court. So yeah, keep your gun in the glove compartment.
  24. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) It's not that simple. His official salary listed this year is 1 million dollars. Yeah, but for all intents and purposes, he's costing the Toronto Blue Jays organization 9 million per year.
