  1. With preseason games right around the corner, I figured that I'd ask about the NFL Picks & whether or not we're doing it again this year.
  2. So, the dude only allows 1 run since May 4 in 28 games, I snatch him up on my fantasy squad, and he gives up 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning in his first appearance. While I can't complain, as the Sox scored those runs, I'm still confused. Is he not cut out to close games, or is he entitled to an atrocious performance every now and then? LOL, I see that "Fry The Twinkies" was banned. That guy was completely f***ing retarded.
  3. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) Pip is the man... Does anybody know if he's still gonna do Bulls broadcasts? Pippen was my favorite player when I was kid (Jordan was a close second). He'll go down as one of my top 5 players of all time by the time I'm on my deathbed. That said, he is atrocious behind the mic. His head is waaay up there in the clouds. He reminds me of a boxer after 20+ years of getting his brains beat in every year. And I still can't get over the celebrity roll call in Detroit. We have Eminem, Kid Rock, Anita Baker, and.....Scottie Pippen in the house tonight!!!
  4. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:36 PM) So do you think they'll finish first? Them, the Pistons, and the Heat are all capable of winning 55 to 60. I can't call it.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) I like the Pacers in the Central. With Artest back combined with the addition of Granger, they might be the deepest team in the league. I still can't believe they got Granger at 17. In my best Hawk voice: Umm, yeah-ah. The Pacers are f***ing insane. I thought this was common knowledge, but you know, every time I come on here I have to leave my seat and run head-first into a wall. Don't buy into the New Jersey circus, though. While they have some defense on the perimiter, they have no strong BIGS (as that major bozo Scottie Pippen would say), and very little depth. It's really all glamour and glitz...for the 12 year olds, you know. Serious fans can see that they'll get hammered in the playoffs by any one of these three: Detroit, Indiana, Miami. I don't care if Krstic develops...he'll still get used and abused in crucial games.
  6. QUOTE(OilCan @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) My top 8 out of the East: 1. Miami 2. Detroit 3. Boston 4. Indiana 5. New Jersey 6. Washington 7. Chicago 8. Cleveland The pre-brawl Pacers were the most dangerous team in the NBA outside of the Pistons and Spurs last year. It's called devastating team defense. Indiana has the top defensive PG in Tinsley, the best perimiter defender in Ron Artest, and one of the best shot-altering forces in the league in Jermaine O'Neal. On top of that, they have quite a few scoring options and one hell of a coach. You can go on and on about that team, they are truly elite. And of course, you have Boston ranked ahead of them, a team that will be lucky to win 45 games. I remember when you were talking about the Spurs of the future, and you didn't mention Bruce Bowen...the closest thing to Scottie Pippen (defensively) in the entire league. That was very amusing, Oil Can. Where do you get your info? ESPN?
  7. IMO, Palmeiro is without question a First Ballot Hall Of Famer. He's gotta be one of the most underrated players of all time, this thread kind of proves that. He was both a devastating hitter and an elite defender. 3000 hits ain't no joke.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:58 AM) Yes, in even years. Seriously though, he has been insane this year. May: 11 Games 0.90 ERA 1.00 WHIP .222 BAA 9 K/9 IP June: 12 Games 0.90 ERA 0.70 WHIP .147 BAA 14.5 K/9 IP July: 7 Games 0.00 ERA 1.14 WHIP .125 BAA 13.5 K/9 IP He has shown flashes in the past, but he's just downright scary now. It appears as though the Cubs have f***ed up big time.
  9. QUOTE(fry the twinkies @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) NO! We'd know why the Farns sucks at baseball if he took down Urlacher. We'd then know he should either be in football or wrestling. Kyle Farnsworth has allowed only one earned run in his last 28 games dating back to May 4. His ERA is f***ing 1.85 on the season. You're trying to tell me that he sucks at pitching?
  10. QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) And Alan Trammell shows why he's the worst manager in the major leagues tonight. Who the heck leaves a reliever in to give up 3 homers in 1/3 of an inning when you are up three runs. I wouldn't want this clown managing my little league team. He's the reason why this team loses so many games they easily could have won. QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) This game just illustrates how lucky the White Sox have been this year. You have well over 20 one run wins this year. You are bound to come tumbling back to Earth next season because you are not as good as your record indicates, not by a long shot. That lead off triple scores most of the time, but the White Sox lucked out again. Plus, I think it's highly likely your pitchers are having career years rather than having established a new level of performance. :sleep
  11. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) keyword in bold. You were asked to give an opinion on his glove in 2005, not 1999. Right now, he is without question a below average fielder when you add everything up. Maybe he is solid when it is hit right to him, but his zone rating is pathetic.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) So you would be discluding fielding percentage, range factor, and zone rating? What are this defesive statistics that matter then? Hmm. And as you stated in a previous thread, range factor ain't even all that important. POs plus Assists over Innings is more a fuction of total chances. But the Zone Rating (the actual measure of range) is a clear indication that Bill is nowhere near what he once was. I know that his knees are f***ed, though. So, he doesn't make a lot of errors (only 4), but he ain't getting to a s***load of balls.
  13. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Sorry. Didn't know the rules. Just sharing the wealth. And we all love you for it. I'd love you even more if there was a pic of Abe Vigoda in your avatar.
  14. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Posting that whole article is wrong, people are supposed to pay for that info and its an infringement to post that material for users to see that do not pay for it!!! Here you go, I fixed this up for you. You know, to avoid confusion.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:27 AM) Yes, really. Bill Mueller ranks 18th in Zone Rating out of 21 third basemen in the MLB with a minimum of 60 games played. Oh yeah, and he ranks dead last in Range Factor. You wouldn't be bulls***ting us, would you?
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:34 AM) Of course he is worth $10,765,608. For a guy who is allowing opponents to hit .370 off of him on the road, that is a nice chunk of change.
  17. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) Tom Glavine is good. Is that a fact?
  18. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) If Contreras was involved he alone would be dropping $8.5 million from next year, correct? Yanks sent money in the deal, but that's tied to the team not the player correct? If AJB gets a deal similar to Freddy (i.e. 9/10/11) then we really aren't adding much at all. Lowell on the other hand... Well, you don't want 4 SPs making at or around 10 MIL each in two years from now, unless you have a 90 MIL+ payroll to work with. Even then, they'd be taking up 40% to 45% of the payroll. That's too much. If you're going to have an area of excellence, it (obviously) should be pitching, but I don't want to end up like the Houston Astros. We need balance, and it ain't gonna happen if we have that much cash tied up in SPs.
  19. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:02 AM) Agreed. Ya know whats ironic though? We already have a guy at the back of the rotation who has proven that he can dominate in the playoffs. Too bad it's El Duque and we couldn't be less confident in him. I couldn't be less confident, that is correct. Top 20 WORST WHIP LIST (Minimum: 60 IP) 1. Vincent Padilla 1.91 2. Al Leiter 1.85 3. Hideo Nomo 1.77 4. Russ Ortiz 1.76 5. Sidney Ponson 1.73 6. Tom Glavine 1.72 7. Jamey Wright 1.68 8. Ramon Ortiz 1.66 9. Darrell May 1.66 10. Chan Ho Park 1.66 11. Jose Lima 1.65 12. Kirk Reuter 1.65 13. Mark Hendrickson 1.64 14. Oliver Perez 1.64 15. Orlando Hernandez 1.63 16. Kevin Brown 1.61 17. Jeff Francis 1.60 18. Jason Jennings 1.60 19. Byung Yung Kim 1.60 20. Eric Milton 1.59 I mean, outside of Jeff Francis and Oliver Perez, all of these guys are really, really bad.
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Mueller is an above average third baseman with good range and a good arm. He's not a gold glover but is annually in the top five in every defensive statistic that matters. Really? I know that he used to have a damn good glove with the Giants and the Cubs, but I heard that he has mostly sucked it up defensively over the past couple of years, to the point where people are kind of baffled because defense was always a given with Bill. I'm not really in the habit of checking out Red Sox games, but that's the word, big bird.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Garcia is the only one really but other than him you would be correct. Dude, your signature.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) I mean stuff wise, both are brilliant (better than anyone on the Sox staff). What the Sox have to ask is which of the two are better. Personally I lean to Burnett, especially with the drastic improvements he's made to his changeup (he's starting to control it pretty good as well). Plus Burnett is finally getting back to 100% and should get better. I also think the SOx feel he has a better chance at putting the total package together as opposed to Contreras. Burnett is now entering his prime as well at the age of 28, whereas, Contreras is older than dirt. I think that Burnett has shown plenty of flashes, and he'd be a good investment for someone like the Tigers or Indians at 10 MIL per. But as far as the Sox are concerned, we can't afford to take on another high dollar SP considering that we're gonna need to lock down both Buehrle and Garland. How much money should be devoted to starting pitching? With AJ on board, too much.
  23. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) another thought, still the Lakers could surprise a lot of people, Mihm at center, Kwame PF, Odom SF, Kobe at the 2, and it-doesn't-matter at PG, with Phil Jackson bringing in an offensive system (the triangle, compared to "Give-the-ball-to-Kobe-and-be-ready-for-a-pass-just-in-case"), nobody's being asked to do too much and maybe now they'll play as a team. now that I think more, if Kwame comes close to reaching that potential, they could be a serious contender. You need to play effective team defense if you want to be a contender. They're gonna get smoked in the first round. And hell yes it mattes who your PG is. My advice: don't get caught up in scoring potential on paper.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...ound/index.html Juan Dixon is a big guard? 6'3" 164, he is huge. He said that Kwame Brown is a center, which is clearly not the case. He put Jordan/Pippen in the same sentence as Bryant/Odom. He said that you can count on the Lakers performing well in the playoffs (exact words: after their 82 game season comes to an end). That's why you're supposed to avoid Sports Illustrated. They will make you dumber in damn near every case.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) Atkins was one of the teams problems. Atkins, Odom, and the lack of anyone in the low post was why the Lakers were so putrid last year. Odom could be better this year though, if Phil can get him to play any defense and if he is able to play the 3 instead of the 4. Do you know if they have a specific PG in mind? I don't have a free agent list handy, but I know that Earl Watson is out there. He is competent when bringing the ball up the court, and he can play damn good on-the-ball defense. Right now, Kobe is the only quality defender in the starting unit. Everyone else is below averge to adequate. They're going to have to win games Dallas Mavericks style. They should get the 7th or 8th seed, and then get smashed by the Spurs or Suns in the 1st Round.
