  1. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) It's really not that big of a deal at all... Keep up the great work, cubano. It's not a big deal, but I've come across one of his threads late and simply couldn't find the article that he was talking about because I got there too late. That is a problem. The easy solution is to give us a direct link to the article he's talking about. Since it's generally good information that most of us are reading, we'll go to the home page because we're interested to see what else is there. I enjoy the hell out of Cubano's posts, and I'm not trying to be a dick, but this is a simple solution to a simple problem.
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) dont like the redirect through his homepage? LOL If I catch the thread late, I have to search through it to find what he's talking about. It is blogspam, but this would've worked: http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...bp-session.html
  3. Cubano, in the future can you link us to the actual article instead of the home page?

    Nobody has mentioned Dead Man yet. I'd put that close to the top of the best westerns after 1990.

    QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) I can't believe so many people disliked 3:10 to Yuma. I thought it was one of the better westerns made in the last decade or two. Not that there have been a ton of them made in that period, but, there are some. I enjoyed it up until the end. Check out The Proposition if you haven't seen it already.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) So I got belligerently drunk and it happened in front of the girl I've been crushing on for months. Completely embarrassed myself. Like, completely. I hate myself. Really, I hate myself. Only good part is that I don't remember a second of it, but still. Chris Widger does not approve. But he understands.

    QUOTE (onedude @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) Seems like it would be hard for you to enjoy many movies. Only a few movies are made a year that fit the criteria you want. An actor can't be in everyone of them, except Penn, Hoffman, DDL. If you'd watch more movies, you'd see he's at least a good actor. So much s*** is out there full of s*** actors...Bale isn't one of them. It's all a matter of opinion anyway...you are part of the small minority on Bale. Of course it's a matter of opinion. I don't find that he's a bad actor, just not a good one. And I'll take movies for their intended value, as well. Not every movie tries to be 8 1/2, I understand that. But I'm entitled to rip a movie as much as you're entitled to praise it, right? Now, if I posted about all the movies I do like, I'd probably be known by Steve as the guy who likes everything and has no critical thoughts. I choose to talk about the movies I don't like because I have more fun doing it and it usually creates more discussion then a bunch of people who agree. But alas, I'm uneducated so please disregard anything I say from here on out.

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) To be honest, I think you're uneducated. And I think you get off on being the guy who doesn't like anything that anyone else likes. I find it hard to believe that you've never thought Christian Bale was good in anything, because he's that good in a lot of movies. I find it hard to believe that you don't like anything that finds its way to the main stream. Ten years ago I bet his independent amazing performance in American Psycho had you rolling over yet intrigued at the same time. Now that he's mainstream though, watch out. Big bag Bob Dylan of Soxtalk thinks he's a SELL OUT, no good actor!!! OH NOES!!! However, you seem to get off on being Mr. Different. Ok, enjoy it. Enjoy being the guy who loves nothing yet everything everyone doesn't know about. When you're done playing that game, join the rest of us who have a f***ing life. Hey, cool.

    QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) "He's also become a whore for the big budget blockbuster movie" Seems to contradict what you said earlier. he made $38 million for The Dark Knight. Rescue Dawn had a budget of $10 million, the machinist had a budget of $5 million, and Harsh Times had a budget of $2 million. Harsh Times didn't have too good of a screenplay but he managed to make the movie watchable. Again, what's your point? My point is that he's building a habit of choosing slam dunk movies that don't require much good acting to get attention.

    QUOTE (onedude @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) That really doesn't mean a whole bunch these days. And I tend to think he got shafted on an Oscar nomination for The Machinist. Why not? And, why?

    QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) you really don't think that the Prestige wasn't an outstanding movie? you don't think his character in that movie had any depth? Bruce Wayne doesn't have any depth? Rescue Dawn and Harsh times were not big budget movies by any means. I don't even think they cracked double digits in box office income. The Prestige was a good movie. Outstanding is stretching it largely. Bruce Wayne doesn't have depth. The character thinks he has depth and they try to give it to him, but, it's nothing more than popcorn crap that doesn't do anything more than add a few cliches. Ledgers character scratched the surface of depth, but fell short. Rescue Dawn was an unfortunate movie for Herzog, that's all I'll say. As far as that and the other one you mentioned not being big budget, so what? I'd bet a good dollar that he got paid well to be in those movies, and besides that, what does being in a low budget movie prove anyway? I want to see him carry a movie, a cast, a bad screenplay, or a bad director before I'm ready to call him a good actor. That, or I want him to play a character that has serious, believeable motivations and flaws, not the Bruce Wayne bulls*** stuff.

    QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) ...rescue Dawn, the Machinist??? None of his movies are truly outstanding and his characters generally lack depth. He's also become a whore for the big budget blockbuster movie. The fact that he hasn't lately been in any truly horrible movies (except 3:10 to Yuma) doesn't say much for his ability to act, it says something for his sense of a good script. He also doesn't have an Academy Award, nor a nomination for one. That might say something about his ability, or inability, to act a role that has a fully developed character.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) Very insightful. EDIT: Oh, there's what you were doing.
  15. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) It's something I would have done in Madden. I would have run back and forth along the goal line wasting 10 more seconds off the clock. I don't know why Fitzgerald didn't think of it. It'd just have given them 10 less seconds to try and win it again.
  16. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Shame on Fitzgerald for not thinking about football and instead just rushing into the endzone watching himself instead of thinking to stop and down the ball as close to the goalline as possible without crossing. Pittsburgh was the best defense in the league. You take the points. Too many things can go wrong if he stopped short: a penalty, an interception (which happened once and cost them dearly), a fumble. The defense didn't step up, that's all.

    QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Christian Bale was in the right. I didn't know a Terminator movie was capable of this. Christian Bale is as much a hack as the DP and people need to get off his wiener. He's an actor, nothing more.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 03:42 AM) If Resident Evil 5 is going to be anything like the demo then count me out. I've never been a big RE fan and it appears the latest incarnation will fail to sway me, I just find it boring. What the hell kind of game makes you stop moving before you can fire your underpowered pistol that sounds like a cap-gun? I'd rather play Dead Space, at least that game allows me to run and gun a little. I take it you saw my comment on the PSN, too. The demo was terrible. Bad controls, can't move while aiming, weak gun, an IDIOT partner and a douche bag of a main character. The FEAR 2 demo was okay, though.
