QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:05 AM) I don't think the Sox will deal Fields until Crede has a contract extension. If they do, they are leaving themselves open to Boras pricing. If Fields does move to LF for 2007, then the Sox will more than likely look for a leadoff hitter at 2B or SS for 2007. The options would be: LF - Pods, SS - Uribe, 2B - Gooch LF - Fields, SS - Uribe, 2B - New leadoff hitter LF - Fields, SS - New leadoff hitter, 2B - Gooch I believe Crede has said he wants to stay a White Sox and will fire his agent if this isn't top priority? I could be wrong...?

I don't know much about Fields except he's hitting for a high average. If it's true that he's playing LF, it may be to mark up his trade value. If Podsednik is gone next season, I think KW would sooner go out and get an optimal lead off hitter than put in a high power guy.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:20 AM) Or ... your big bat or hot hitter will be IBB'ed since 1B is open. If a lefty is pitching they go after Thome and walk Konerko and if a righty is on the hill, vice versa. So many calls or non calls that Ozzie makes, he gets ripped for after it doesn't work. Yet, there are good arguments for either decision. True, but for the opposition it's pick your poison. I'd much rather have Thome vs. Lefty or Konerko vs. Righty with a RISP than a runner on first and a favorible hitting match-up. Not only that, the manager can still use his pen and play the match-up regardless of whether the runner swipes a bag or not. Sure you'd like to have all the numbers in your favor, but guys like Thome, Konerko and Dye should be able to hit "specialists". I opt to put the pressure on.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) Either that or Jenks has a very long term contract. A 100+ year old closer throwing 100. Now THAT'S baseball.

I wouldn't want to trade anyone to the Red Sox. Not when you consider that the Sox might see them in the post-season. Once or if the offense gets back on track (or anywhere near where they were) and Buehrle turns it around, the Sox are pretty damn good. I don't think they need Vazquez and Garcia in top form, not when you have this current bullpen. Contreras, Buehrle and Garland should and will be enough. The only moves I'd consider making are acquiring a backup OFer and another bullpen arm. Even aside from that, I think the Sox can survive.

All is well tonight, my friends.

This is the first time I've heard this idea. I'm blown away.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) when they were winning nothing bothered us.

The idea is to post the exact opposite of what you've been feeling. If you're an optimist, in this thread you're a pessimist. If you're a pessimist, now you're an optimist. This isn't a thread to argue, it's just an attempt for something along the lines of Rally Crede. Let's hear it. Mike MacDougal is a crock. Ozzie Guillen is an obvious genius. The offense will never turn it around, and the pitching will suck for 40 years to come. A 2-10 stretch is everything to worry about, and now tied with the Twins, they have no fishing chance what-so-ever to win the division or the wild card. The Sox got lucky in the first half and I don't think they have the talent to compete this year. They got even luckier last season. The Tigers will never hit a speed bump and win 110 games, they will also win the World Series and laugh at the Sox while they watch from home. Javier Vazquez is an ace, he'll turn it around. Same thing with Freddy Garcia. The Sox staff is filled with aces, you'd be blind not to see this. But yet, Jim Thome can't hit worth a spiff. Neither can Konerko or Dye. They live by the home run. Juan Uribe is the absolute worst player in Major League Baseball on this day. I really think getting Soriano and moving Podsednik to center field would move this team in the right direction...that is if they didn't have so many spiffty players around them.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) I learned my lesson last year and have been too busy to watch the games anyways. Tivo is a great thing, just fast forward through all the bad things.. Which lately has been the entire game.
-
Honestly, I've learned to take it in stride. I'll be pissed for maybe 10-15 minutes afterwards, and then I don't care. Why should I care longer than that? I don't play. I don't make trades. I don't make managerial changes.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Take a pill, man. Yeah, it is Ozzie's job to "redirect" this team to winning, and he clearly isn't getting the job done. And I'm going to keep criticizing this team for as long as they deserve criticism. If you don't like it, maybe you can start your own board where people limit their posts to, "Go Sox!" "I love the Sox!" "Ozzie is great!" Hardly worth the effort it takes to type that crap. With all do respect, it's wasted effort to beach and moan about the losing. There isn't a damn thing you can do anyway.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Regardless of what Hawk says, there's a terrible vibe going on through the clubhouse right now. You lose are credibility as soon as you start talking about the clubhouse. How do you know what's going on in there?
-
7.5 is a big gap, but there's a Wild Card spot still open for the taking. This isn't to say I don't think the Sox can't close the gap.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) But if he gets the win thats just as good. And it means he goes a few starts without having that happen. Like I said, If I were managing I wouldn't have done anything different tonight with the exception of walking Mauer once Cotts fell behind. I agree with that, but I think the leash needs to be shorter on Javy. Cruising or not, this seems to be a lasting trend. With MacDougal now in the pen, the Sox seem like they'd be better off putting it in the hands of fresh arms. Six innings should be his limit. But you also have to wonder why Ozzie didn't tell Cotts to put Mauer on. A 3-1 count only meant trouble.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Nothing new. Looked like it was taped from earlier. Just said that Sox close and McCarthy not likely to be included but Washington wants him. Speculating Pods in Center and Soriano in Left. Just goes to show you ESPN rarely does their homework. There is no fishing way Williams lets the Sox finish the year with Podsednik in center.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) I'm all for winning, but come on, I'd like to have some sort of future. I don't think I'll ever understand why people here spiff a brick when a "good" prospect is traded. If I had a dollar for all the SURE prospects that came into town and did absolutely nothing, I wouldn't need a job. Prospects are nothing more than prospects until they do something. -
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Um, didn't Pods play center prior to the Sox and isn't the whole point then putting Soriano in left? He did. But I don't think the White Sox want anyone else but BA in CF. (Unless it were Andrew Jones or something.)

I'll say. -
Sorry if this is the wrong forum. But I'm going to move to a new apartment soon. (I live in Chicago.) I don't want cable television, but I do want to carry along internet. Is there anyway to get Sox games on MLB TV without them being blacked out?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) Honestly, I rather have Alfonso instead of many of the crappy relievers thrown out there. He's better defensively than Pods, he's a legit 40-40 threat, and rejuvenates the team almost singlehandedly. A reliever really wouldn't do that. Right now, bullpen really isn't the problem, it's the starters. I say we go for Alfonso Soriano and Rheal Cormier in a 3 way. A bullpen can make a starting staff better. All it takes is a good 1-2 combo in the rotation if you have a solid pen. Just look at the Twins success for all these years.
