Just act like Shatner does when he covers a song. (Or sing Ooh La La by The Faces)
  3. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...trade.deadline/ So as always, McCarthy's name has to be mentioned. What is JS contract status?
  4. What would it take? Is he worth it? What are the Mets possibly offering?
  5. QUOTE(Drew @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:35 AM) Now, if only they would pull Vazquez before he loses the game for us and use the bench more intelligently, then we'd really be onto something. Well, there's only so much you can do. The bullpen was pressed today. It's going to be pressed all through the KC series as well. 9 innings from Jose tomorrow would be super swell.
  6. QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) bullspiff. buehrle had a career year last year under AJ. what a dumb f***ign joke man. So did Contreras and Garland.
  7. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) The sox should stop sugar coating for these guys even for Buerhle. Mark has not pitch the way he is capable and that's the story. We need to stop giving Dusty Baker like excuses. I don't see this as an excuse. I see it as the Sox recognizing a problem and trying whatever they can to fix it.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) If they really want to trade Vazquez, they'll do it in the off-season when it makes more sense. There's nobody out there they can realistically get that's better than Javy now. Think what you must. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) I have no idea what you're talking about here. I'm talking about how people like to overrate prospects. Until the Sox get nailed like San Fran and trade away Nathan and Liriano for Pierzynski, I say keep trading them.
  9. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) He'd look horrible in a White Sox uniform, no thanks. Yea, he's got such a fat ass. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) How so? I don't feel Brian is the problem. It's Pods. He's terrible, and doesn't belong on a playoff caliber team. Neither does Juan Uribe. He could dent that pretty face of yours with his World Series ring on his fist. Seriously though, how can you say Juan Uribe doesn't belong on a playoff caliber team?
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) it is very fishing laid back. but no fishing way we get mike gonzalez. neal cotts is pitching like spiff right now. Nor would I trade Cotts (+ prospects, no less) for Gonzalez.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) However, Zito could tear his labrum tomorrow, and he'd still likely get over 10 million per year. That's why I love the Rangers and O's.

    Zito?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) I thought you meant that re-signing Zito wouldn't be impossible because payroll isn't too big of an issue. You said that money isn't an issue anymore. I'm not sure how else I should take that statement. I meant it in terms of taking on SMART contracts. I'd like to have Zito for the remaining two months of the season, but unless the Sox can get actual face value (I.E. not a five year contract for 10+ million/year) for his services in the re-sign department, I wouldn't even bother to try and keep him.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Zito is not gonna sign with us. There's no use even talking about it. I never said he would re-sign with the Sox. I never even implied the Sox would try. Any way you look at it one of the five current starters has to get the ole boot out of town to put McCarthy in the rotation in '07. I could care less what happens to Josh Fields or Lance Broadway in 3 or 4 years, what I know now is that they aren't doing spiff for the Sox. Should I go get the bucket of tears from when Reed and Olivo were traded for Garcia? Good god.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) If it's not an issue, then we really screwed up in not trading for and re-signing Soriano. Twist my words any way you like.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Sorry, you just don't trade your best position prospect for two months of a guy who's been slightly above average at best since 2002. It would look even more stupid if we ended up missing the playoffs (a real possibility). Broadway is argubly our best pitching prospect right now (I know Flash is laughing somewhere). You still don't trade him for a 2 month rental. Who are you, Ron Schuler? The season is at a breaking point, it can either go up or down. As it looks, it's going down. So why not make a move that'll help it go up as well as get rid of a pitcher that not only isn't wanted this season, but next year too. And it's not as if the Sox haven't dealt with Boras before. The Sox just aren't in the field of paying 20 million for a player that isn't that good and is only a chamber of financial ruin. (But apparently they are in the field of paying 11 million dollars to guys with ERA's near 5.)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) You would not be freeing up any money, the Sox would have to pick up most all of either's contract. Plus you're more than likely sending Fields/McCarthy to Oakland, you have to top a package that is centered around Milledge and basically that's the only way you're going to do it. Then it comes down to making any package that doesn't include McCarthy. Plus I don't think money is really a big issue anymore.

    Zito?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) You can't do it. Not when Zito is a free agent at the end of the season. Who cares? You get rid of one of Vaz/Garcia and free up a boat load of cash. Rent Zito and let him go at the end of the year and insert Mac. It makes perfect fishing sense.

After this three game set in Baltimore, I can't honestly say that I think the Sox will make the playoffs with this current starting rotation. I think Kenny Williams has to be willing to overpay (obviously with a limit) to get this guy.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) Yeah, I hate good movies. Apparently.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Well, I guess you got me there. I don't know of any stat that can tell us one way or the other. We just have to go with our eyes. Your eyes tell you he's a threat to baserunners. My eyes tell me he's nowhere near the defender he used to be. He's painfully slow and I have seen too many runners go 1st to 3rd and 2nd to home on him. 1st to 3rd can be blamed on his poor speed. 2nd to home though?
  21. Hopefully he'll stop making movies now.
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) Take the 9th inning of last nights game ... Runners on 1B and 2B with no outs. The Sox have 3 outs left and are down by 2. Iguchi sac bunts and they walk Thome with GLOAD, not Paulie, on deck. They effectively to the bat out of Thome's hands when he has 30+ dingers so Gload could hit with 0 dingers. I wouldn't have used up that out and negated Thome's power just to have two runners advance a base. It did eliminate the DP possibilty, which gave the O's even more incentive to walk Thome which restored DP possibilites. Baseball is a funny game. The way Ozzie figured it was by the match-up. Obviously anyone would rather have Thome up instead of Gload, but for the first time in awhile, things fell in place and Gload hit the slam. Not everything will work for Ozzie every night out, but you have to wonder how the opposition would feel if Konerko was on deck, not Gload. Either way you slice it, props have to be given to Gload. He put the pressure on the pitcher and got a 3-0 count. Sox hitters haven't done that lately.
