I never thought I'd see the day where White Sox fans turned into greedy East Coast fans. They're 24 games over .500, they have a 2 game lead in the Wild Card...maybe it ain't the pretty 15 game cushion they supplied last year, but christ, this is the Chicago White Sox, not the New York f***ing Yankees. 2005 was a dream, and they call it a dream for a reason -- it ain't supposed to happen. The last time the Sox supplied us fans with any sort of winning even remotely close to this was 1993-94 (f***ing strike). It's just beyond me how anyone, ANYONE, can sit back and question the heart of a team coming off a World Series Championship. Not only do none of us have any semblence of what kind of effort they are putting onto the field -- I'd bet a good chunk of change and my house that it's close to every ounce -- but I'll reiterate over again that they're the DEFENDING WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS. 1917. 1917! I understand criticizing the team for underachieving and blasting s***ty pitching and poor at bats. But questioning heart? With talk like that I'd sooner think I was a Yankees fan. (Let's go get Albert Pujols and fix this s*** quick.)

Where has he been, anyway?

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) anyone not want to see that 9/11 movie? cause i'm thinking i don't think i could see it without thinking they made money off a tragedy so soon after a tragedy that the story didn't yet need to be told Oliver Stone would be interested in making money off of it. Paul Greengrass, however, who made Flight 93, is one of the few directors that can pull off a 9/11 movie, and did. I will not bother to see Stone's version, but if anyone wants to see a 9/11 flick, Flight 93 is very, very good.

August 17th Game thread 1:05pm vs Kansas City

Chat is open, anyone coming? -
I'm not a fair weather fan by any means, but is it odd that I follow the team closer when they are crappy than I do when they are winning? Last year for example, the regular season was pretty damn boring until Cleveland closed the gap to a race.

Bukowski's book made into film. Has anyone read the book? I'm a big fan of Bukowski, though I've never read this one. Matt Dillon appears to be playing the same character Mickey Rourke played in Barfly (which I guess is the only way to do it). It's on a limited release and I pray it makes its way to Chicago. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/factotum/

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) The most disappointing thing about that whole damn thing is that Denis Leary, a long time Red Sox fan, had no clue that Gabe Kapler was Jewish. For shame Denis, for shame. Eh, it's not like I know the faith of any players on the Sox. But Leary does claim to be the diehard of diehards.

It's obvious he hasn't been anything close to stellar, but hitting lead off is the hardest position in the line-up to hit if you ask me. I'm not against Podsednik leaving, but I think it'll be tough to find a replacement who can do the job that is supposed to be done.

The announcer on our left lost it.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) I don't think this team is any better than they've been most of the year. In 05 we had studly pitching pretty much all season, aside from a handful of starts we have not had that at all this year. Count was awesome, Vaz had an aweosme start two turns ago, but you know what, consistent QS's is what makes a team dangerous and we have yet to show that we can do it. Till than, I'll just continue to assume we will not make any noise (even if we do get in). Pitching as good and as clutch as the '05 Sox don't come around often. To rake through the World Series it took historical performances (I.E. El Duque nailing Boston with the sacks packed, 4 straight CG's in the ALCS). Last season was magical. 11-1 in the playoffs is pretty damn rare. You may not see that type of consistency this season, but they're starting to prove they have a knack for winning the big ball games. Every team is due a bad stretch at least once through the season (Detroit might be seeing theirs now), and the way I see it, the Sox were lucky to have theirs in July and not September. One more win tomorrow and the Sox have crawled back into the division race. Three weeks ago this looked impossible. You have to hand it to pitchers for battling and the offense for raking. I don't think pitching defines a playoff contender, I think winning the big game does.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) They lied, last season was the season premier. It was a pilot than and wasn't a full season. That show and starved were two of there new comedies and apparently "Its always Sunny" one out. Danny Devito wasn't in that show, he's new to this season. I watched a lot of those beginning episodes. They weren't very funny. Devito adds A LOT to the show.

Yankees Series: Has it Been a Confidence Builder?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) The answer to this question will be decided ENTIRELY by 1 person. Javier Vazquez. Yep. Tonights game will paint a pretty good picture of where the Sox stand in the thick of things. -
QUOTE(hi8is @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) just got done with the teachings of don juan for the second time (carlos castaneda) i think ill revisit ishmael or the story of b for the first time in 3 years after that im not sure, maybe some vonagut.... slaughter house 55? or maybe brave new world.... ferinhiet 451? sofies world? not sure what im gonna read next... f***, maybe even a .PHP or illustrator book =P Vonnegut - Slaughter-House Five. It's a great read and Kurt is a fantastic writer. I just read his newest book "Man Without a Country" and I reccommend it to anyone of any age. He hits a lot of major topics going on in todays world and is dead on in all of his opinions. I'm in the middle of Jonathan Safran Foer's Incredibly Loud and Extremely close. It's been a wonderful read so far. I finished Bukowski's Ham On Rye about a week ago. It's become a favorite of mine, along with most of Bukowski's work. QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) 'Veeck-as in wreck' is one of the most interesting books I've ever read. For someone that has spent his entire summer in a baseball front office and is looking at it as a very possible future career, this book is awesome. Yes, that book is fantastic. QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) am currently reading The Post Office by Charles Bukowski... That's the only Bukowski novel I've yet to read. Let me know what you think of it. Have you read Ham on Rye?

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) Agreed. I don't always catch it when it's on, but when I do it's hilarious. I also really like how FX replays shows, like Rescue Me and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, later in the week, so in case people miss them, they have another chance to watch. Speaking of Rescue Me...what a disappointing season it has been.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) He was brought in to face Farnsworth I believe, not Rivera. You are correct.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) He was damn good for 1/2 of the season. He was a below average MLB player the 2nd half of the year. He's shown flashes of that first half player. But Ozzie bringing him in to face Rivera was a joke. An absolute joke.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) That is a personal attack against the creator of this thread. I think a suspension is in order. This site can not allow this to keep going on. If this person thinks it is so worthless, then why is he she reading it and posting in it? Did you read the thread before he edited it? Eh? Eh? I doubt it. And personal attack? PLEASE.

Yea. The options are so WIDE right now. What a worthless thread.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Well I guess my letter cc'd to Brooks hit home, because I got a call from somebody there on Monday referencing that letter and asking me to call back, so I did. That was Monday. I left a message. Thus far, nada. Um, cough, GO SOX? What letter?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Whats a good emulator to download so that I can play old school snes games and stuff (I want to play me some pilotwings). Znes. If you want it, hit me on AIM. I have it and a few games. EDIT: Seems you found it. If you want the controls to work right, you have to config them yourself. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) Kind of OT, but they make legal third party NES systems now(The patent expired after 20 years). It's pretty cool darn cool and decently cheap. I found mine at the Best Buy in Orland but I believe their pretty rare in stores. http://www.playmessiah.com/product/NEX_index.html Wireless? That's pretty f***in' cool.
