Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that is a pretty ridiculous offer, your offering a guy that has been nothing but a 4th OF his whole career basicly for a top of the rotation pitcher(not an ace). And to top it off Pena only has 1 more year under contract after this one. Id assume for any deal to work with the RedSox that Bucholz would have to be involved. A fourth outfielder? He'd be the best outfielder on the White Sox entire roster right now. He's been a fourth outfielder in Boston simply because the Red Sox have the resources to go and get a guy like J.D. Drew instead of taking a chance on a guy like Wily Mo Pena. He hit 26 home runs at the age of 22. You give him a full seasons worth of at-bats and you've got yourself a damn good outfielder. I know the White Sox don't have any untouchables, so it's hard to grasp the fact that other teams might. With that being said, Buchholz won't be moving anywhere, especially for Buerhle. Even with Schilling on the DL until August, you bring up Buchholz before trading him for a 2-3 month rental. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Williams, You got to ask yourself is being a jerk about the NTC worth getting little or nothing in return? Kenny Williams wants to pull a fast one on Mark Buehrle, just as the Red Sox did on Bronson Arroyo. Sign him for below market value and trade him. Kenny Williams is an idiot, but thats nor here nor there. -
Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, I wouldn't make a Kemp for Buehrle straight up deal. The deal should include Betemeit (along with Kemp) plus a lower level prospect. And yes, that is a deal I would consider making. I still over-value Buehrle and I find it ridiculous teams wouldn't give up 2 top prospects to get him (plus one highly talented prospect that has flamed out and needs a change of scenery). If I were a GM I would give up a s***load to get Buehrle in my rotation because he could be the difference. He's the best pitcher to hit the trade block in years and should some talent. I also would prefer Kemp over Pena because he's a much more complete prospect. Pena has some amazing tools (namely ridiculous power) and I"d love to get him (but I think the Sox could get him without giving up a starting pitcher if they wanted him) but Kemp is a 5 tool player who can play defense, projects to hit for an average, looks like he may not strike out a zillion times and can hit for power in his own right. And that doesn't even factor in Betemeit who fills a serious need of the Sox. I'm just not trading Buehrle for one guy because the whole point of moving some of these arms is to get multiple guys to fill holes because the Sox system is so damn position prospect weak. By the way Red...good to see ya back around a bit. You completely give up on the better version of the Sox (ie the White Sox?) or just been takinga break from here focused on how the Red Sox are going to eventually go down to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? Buehrle is one of the best pitchers to hit the trade market in years, I over-value Buehrle just as much as you do. He's probably the sole reason why I still keep an eye on the White Sox. Nonetheless, with Buehrle' agent coming out and saying he'll file for free agency regardless of what team he is traded to, it puts his trade value at rock bottom. Why would the Dodgers trade both Matt Kemp and Wilson Betemit for a guy that's going to be testing the waters in 2-3 months? I could see the Dodgers trading one of the two, but not both players who figure to be stop-gaps at their respective positions for the next several years. I'd consider giving up more from the Red Sox perspective, perhaps a Brandon Moss or Michael Bowden type, someone who isn't quite a 5-star prospect but someone whose labeled as pretty darn good, but asking for Buchholz is complete insanity. Revised Trade Proposal: Wily Mo Pena, Michael Bowden, Travis Hughes. I throw in Bowden as insurance for if Wily Mo Pena never does pan out to be anything but an all or nothing hitter that the White Sox are currently full of, and Travis Hughes is a 2007 all-star for Pawtucket who as a throw in could be a nice complement to the White Sox bullpen. I stop by on occasion, see what the Wack Pack is thinking about on various issues. I haven't completely given up on the Sox, I have however completely given up on a few of the people on this site. As far as the Red Sox go, they're the best team in baseball at the all-star break. I do have my concerns but given the results thus far, it's hard to complain. Speaking of the Angels, it's good to see guys like Mike Napoli and Casey Kotchman finally coming along. One of my buddies at school is from LaPorte, Indiana and went to high school with Chris Bootcheck, so I've definitely kept a tab on that team too. The managerial-less Mariners nipping at your nose, though? Weak sauce, my man, weak sauce. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont like the Kemp deal either to tell you the truth. Frankly I like keeping Mark or addressing a serious need like a lead off hitter or middle of the field player. I think our young pitching could use some help but overall im pretty happy with the direction that is going. I really dont see much out there that interests me with Mark. Jose, on the other hand could go for a deal that would adress some power in the OF. Julio Lugo? QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If Betemeit or the Dodgers Chinese shortstop are added into the deal would you change your mind? To me those would be the difference makers to me. However, I still think its best to sign Buehrle and than move Garland or Vaz for a ransom (as well as Contreras for whatever you get cause moving Jose is a no brainer). It's a no-brainer to give in to Buehrle' NTC demands and trade Contreras, Vasquez, Garland or combination of the three, but you and I both know Kenny Williams egotistical self won't allow that. And if he's set to file for free agency, you're either going to trade him for $.50 cents on the dollar or keep him and claim draft picks. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wily Mo Pena is also a free agent after the 2008 season. At least Matt Kemp would be under White Sox control for a minimum of 5 seasons. 2 Comp picks > Pena Good point. Thanks, Kalapse. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Absolutely no deal. I would throw bricks at the stadium if the Sox made that trade. Bucholtz and Pena and I'd consider it but either way its a moot point because Buehrle will sign. Well if it's a moot point and he'll resign, I understand what you're saying. If not, you're completely insane. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, and go back to lurking. My anus could really use a tongue cleaning, what's your rate? QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> not nearly value enough. Willy Mo could be a piece but not the whole deal. He has proven in two stops that he may never reach his potential. I would say no deal. Good to hear from ya though Good to hear you from you too, Rock. Easily one of the best posters this site has. So Matt Kemp could be the entire deal but Wily Mo Pena can't? The White Sox outfield next season will be completely wide open. Dye will be gone. Podsednik will be gone. Centerfield has been a problem since the Rowand trade. I feel as if the White Sox would love to take a chance on a high ceiling guy whose signed for short money and has enormous potential. Perhaps you are right though, more would have to be added. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Id rather just keep Buerhle. Not interested in trading him just to trade, and since no team really wants to pay for his talent, might as well just keep him. ...And go with the draft picks? Interesting. Thanks for your thoughts! -
Long time no see, you s*** stains (You know who I'm referring to). Mark Buehrle' agent has pinned the White Sox to either give him the full no-trade protection or pawn him off to the highest bidder for fifty cents on the dollar. With that being said, being discussed on other Red Sox boards across the internet is the idea of trading the struggling Wily Mo Pena whose talent is as enormous as his tree trunk legs, but isn't being given the time of day in Boston. Rumors have the White Sox swinging Mark Buehrle out West for Matt Kemp. Wily Mo Pena has had three better seasons in the Majors than Kemp's had in the minors. He's still only 25 years old and everybody who watches him on a daily basis knows that with consistent at-bats, he'll be the Raul Mondesi (.300-30-100) kind of stop gap in some teams outfield. So I ask you. Wily Mo Pena for Mark Buehrle. In my best Howie Mandel impression: Deal... Or No Deal?

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am definitely for that as long as the lineup behind him supports it. I think it is more of an entire lineup concept more than just a single spot. I feel like in the second hole Iguchi has been pressured into doing "all the little things" - in the lead off spot, he'd be able to swing more freely. Probably a non-issue because it won't happen, but Iguchi is one of the better hitters on the team, you don't bat Erstad/Podsednik first and second in the order giving them far more at-bats than Iguchi will receive simply because they have speed or are better base runners. Foolish, but that's Ozzie for ya.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Zambrano either really wimped out, or they are really close to a big, long term deal. Do you think his $15.5 million dollar proposal was realistic? I sure don't. The increase from $6.5 to $15.5 would be the largest of it's kind if i'm not mistaken.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, the Billy West Spotlight series on Howard 100 the last 2 days was worth the money, espically the "Jackie Puppet" segment. Sounds like merger won't be done soon enough to get baseball this year on Sirius, hopefully maybe by September so I can listen to the critical stretch run games. That really aggravates me, it would save me money on MLB.TV - oh well, i guess.

I'm going to check and see what kind of price I can get this one for today: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1134702498404 Thoughts? QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ugh, stay away from Plasma at all costs. Plus Im making an assumption here but I think Red & White likes to play video games atleast sport ones and thats a big no on plasma anyways. Yea, I really wasn't thinking plasma, mainly because they are out of my price range and if games don't go well with it, then it's just another reason why I'm avoiding them. Thanks.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 07:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is not like the order matters that much after the 1st inning. With no true leadoff man, why not place him at the one?

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Definitely don't go with the first one. That's a horrible price, even with your buddy's discount. It's only an LCD monitor. I see no HD tuner included. Here is a 32" LCD with HDTV tuner for $100 less: 32" MAG $1k for the 46" LCD HDTV is pretty good. Do you need a TV this big? For a viewing distance of 12' or less, 42" is sufficient. I prefer plasma to LCD though, and if you watch a lot of sports then plasma is the better choice. Finding a decent 42" plasma under $1000 is not difficult. Actually see what your friend can offer you in that department. It's funny you say that because the first time I went to Best Buy, the guy was telling me that I should avoid the row I found the Toshiba in because without the tuner, that TV would be a dead technology. Then tonight the guy was trying to sell me on how it's such a great deal and how cable boxes are always going to be around and that I shouldn't worry about tuner's whatsoever. That TV looks good, but MAG? Somebody else on my floor bought Westinghouse and has had troubles on it within the first couple months. MAG, Westinghouse, etc. were brands I was told to avoid like the plague. Also, the Sony is rather large. As mentioned earlier, I'm completely content with 32 inches, infact I'd probably prefer it given that I'd be saving money on size alone. As far as LCD to Plasma goes, I couldn't find a decent Plasma TV that would fit my price range. Hmm... This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. Thanks 3E8! QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just get something that works for you. With the TV I linked, I wanted something in that size range since the room it was going in was small, however something that was HD ready. The TV has worked out great, but I took a little bit of a risk with a lesser known TV manufacture. I guess I would just say really look hard before making a significant purchase like a 600+ TV. Edit: thinking aloud. Definitly something I'm not going to rush into..

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:39 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://www.polaroid.com/global/detail.jsp?...;bmLocale=en_US I got this TV about 8 months ago, for just under 700 bucks, and love it. That looks like an awesome tv, however polaroid only supplies to Circtuit City. Darn. Thanks, T!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Buy yourself one and buy me one. Problem solved? I can give you my old tv? QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Buy the better one. Well, that's kind of my question. Sure, the Sony is higher in price, but it's also thicker, takes up more space, and is so high in price simply because its 14 inches bigger than the Toshiba. The Toshiba on the other hand can be placed on a wall in the future, is more sleek, more thin, less expensive, etc.

Official College Basketball Thread
redandwhite replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Kansas has played there best basketball down the stretch where teams like North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Florida have not. If the season ends today, I think they get a number one seed. Of course all this is irrelevant because we have a lot of basketball still to be played. -
My friend works at Best Buy and can get me a solid deal on a TV, something I've needed for years now and am thinking about splurging on knowing that this window of opportunity will close unless I take advantage of it now. Looking tonight, I picked out two TV's that I absolutely loved. Toshiba Sony The Toshiba is currently on sale for $799.99 marked down from $999.99; He can get it down to $599.99. The Sony is currently on sale for $1299.99 marked down from $1499.99; He can get it down to $999.99. At first glance, I'm thinking "man, you can't beat that Toshiba, it's only $600 bucks!" but then I take a double take and realize "man, that Sony is much bigger and I'm getting a third of the price knocked off from the original price. You can't beat that Sony!" What do you do, I ask. What do you do?
-
I understand the thought process. It's always been said that Iguchi has untapped power that he doesn't get to utilize in the two hole. Still, with that being said, he's clearly one of the best hitters on the team, far superior to Podsednik and at this point Erstad as well. If you want him to show more power and not be that prototypical two hitter who moves runners over and does all the small things, I place him in the lead off spot.
-
Of course. It was also personalized to me, I just didn't want anybody to know my name was Justin.. s***..

Wow - MLB TV Premium looks much improved since I first bought it two years ago, and with the Extra Innings pass not available to me, it makes too much sense. Good stuff.
