  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) I do not think the Sox are in any position to deal any sort of pitching. Exactly. You trade Garland for Rowand (which will never happen for many reasons) and then McCarthy takes his spot. As poorly as McCarthy has pitched so far, I think he is a safer bet later in the season than Politte, Nelson and Montero. Kenny should be focusing on one thing and that is finding a right-handed set-up man. Without one before the deadline and our Sox are going to be struggling to make the playoffs.
  2. Seeing that some of you are Nintendo fans, I thought you guys might want to know about this: http://revolution.ign.com/articles/703/703502p1.html April 27, 2006 - Nintendo revealed this morning that the official name of its formerly codenamed Revolution system is Nintendo Wii. The Big N explained the decision behind the name in a statement, which we've provided below: Introducing... Wii. As in "we." While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd. So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.
  3. Here's a good preview about this year's team: http://www.independenttribune.com/scripts/...tacodalogin=yes KANNAPOLIS - In both his first year with the Chicago White Sox organization and with the Kannapolis Intimidators, new I’s manager Omer Munoz figures he is facing a pretty typical challenge with an A league team. One challenge that is a little more unique for Munoz is he is taking over a team that is the defending champion of the South Atlantic League. Munoz and the Intimidators will open the 2006 SAL season and begin defense of that league championship on Thursday night in Rome, Ga. The Intimidators’ home opener will be April 11 against Asheville at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. “No pressure…just kidding,” says Munoz, who was with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization last season. “That is why we are here, trying to do it again. I’m not going to promise that we are going to win a hundred games, but I will tell you that we will play hard every game.” The Intimidators will be having to do that, however, with essentially no one who played a prominent role in the 2005 title run. Left-handed pitcher Oneli Perez is the only returnee who spent the entire ‘05 season in Kannapolis. Pitchers Ricky Brooks, Noe Rodriguez and Ryan Rote, catcher Francisco Hernandez, infielder Javier Castillo and outfielders Daron Roberts and Aaron Cunningham spent small parts of the season with the Intimidators. After that, Munoz will have a young team with many players playing in their first full-season league. “It’s a young team, we’re going to have several 19-year-olds we’ll have starting for us,” says Munoz. “But I feel we have a good combination of power and speed and hopefully we will be able to utilize both throughout the year.” Two of the better power threats figure to be Brandon Allen and Chris Carter. Allen will likely start at first base in the opener, Carter at designated hitter according to Munoz. Allen hit 11 home runs last year at rookie league Great Falls while Carter hit 10 at rookie league in Bristol. “It will be my first full year, and I’m ready for it,” says Allen, a native of Conroe, Texas. “I think this club is going to be one with great chemistry. We had a good spring training, I think we only lost one game we all played together in. We’re ready to go here.” But having so many players that are in their first full year of pro ball, as opposed to the 5-6 week rookie league experience, is one of the challenges that will face Munoz and his staff, which includes pitching coach Sean Snedeker and hitting coach Joe Hall. “I know it will be a matter of adjustments for them and I can speak from experience from when I came here from Venezuela at 18 for the first time, and they are 19 now playing a five-month full season for the first time after just playing in two month rookie See I’s, B3 leagues,” says Munoz. “So it will be a big adjustment for them of five months of just about every day baseball. And part of our job will be to help them do that.” One of those will be right-handed pitcher Derek Rodriguez, who will be the opening night starter in Rome. Rodriguez was a 14th round pick of the White Sox in the 2005 draft out of UNLV. He was 1-3 with a 3.52 ERA last year at Bristol. “It feels great, it is really an honor with all the good pitchers we have on this staff,” says Rodriguez on being the opening night starter. “When you look at where the other guys come from and what they have done in the past it makes it even more of an honor.” Aside from Allen, Carter and Rodriguez, Munoz indicated the rest of the opening night lineup in Rome will be Paulo Orlando in center field, Cunningham in left field, Salvador Sanchez in right field, Cristian Acosta at third base, Castillo at shortstop, Pedro Moreno at second base and Hernandez will be the catcher. As for Munoz, he decided to make the move to the Chicago organization after an off-season meeting with Ozzie Guillen, who managed the White Sox to the 2005 World Series title, and Chisox third base coach Joey Cora. Like Munoz, Guillen is a native of Venezuela and the two played together on the country’s national team before going to pro ball. “Mr Guillen and Joey Cora talked to me during the off-season and wanted me to come here,” he says. “It was flattering to me and I can’t say no. (Guillen) and I stay in touch a lot, and I’m thankful that he and Joey, and the White Sox, gave me this opportunity.” Munoz said that Noe Rodriguez will be the Intimidators starter on Friday in Rome. After that he says the rest of the five-man starting pitching rotation has yet to be determined.

  8. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Im not buyin that Definately an April Fools joke.
  9. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Good ban the ramps next year! Everyone here understands that smoking is bad for them. But this is the type of s*** that makes every smoker feel like they are the offspring of Satan. I understand if you have a problem with smoking, but please try to be rational. I can't possibly see how people smoking on the ramps of the Cell could have any effect on you.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Thome can switch from DH to 1B. Done. Next? Here's the only problem with that: "Once a Designated Hitter assumes a defensive position this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game."
  11. I'm sorry but Heath Phillips doesn't have the stuff that half the guys we brought in have. I am not saying he is not worth considering, but Guillen is realistically only saying this to motivate the guys they have in camp now. One of the eight guys is going to win the job in the bullpen or they aren't going to take a second lefty. It's as simple as that.
  12. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) I'm all for sending Crede and Garland to Texas...but can we actually expect Texas to trade a guy who is signed for 3 more years, for two guys who can walk after this season? Doesn't seem likely to me. Crede would be under their control for the next three seasons.
  13. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Garland is not more valuable. He has had one good year and is a free agent after 1 year. Players are always undervalued when they are a "rent-a-player" even if they have been consistently good. We may think he turned a corner last year but no one knows. If Hernandez is part of the deal then Young or one of the other top OF prospects probably Young is involved. This is because of the uncertainty of his health and the DBs desire for OF help especially CF. I disagree on this. Garland is coming off a great year, Vazquez isn't. Garland should get somewhere around $7 million this year, Vazquez is going to get $11.5 million. While Garland is one year away from free agency, Arizona definately will get two picks for him if they don't sign him to a long-term deal. It's still too early to determine if the White Sox would get picks for Vazquez or even sign him to an extension. Most importantly, Vazquez is a headcase who has demanded a trade, while Garland is a perfect teammate. I don't see how one extra year of Vazquez at $12.5 million changes all of that.
  14. I just found this on Foxsports.com from an article Ken Rosenthal posted 40 minutes ago: The White Sox are making a "strong, under the radar" bid to trade for Diamondbacks right-hander Javier Vazquez, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. The package of players that the Diamondbacks would receive is not known, though it could include a major-league starting pitcher — perhaps right-hander Jon Garland or Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez — and an outfield prospect such as Chris Young. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5163848 I don't like hearing all this "package" talk when Garland should be more valuable than Vazquez. I also don't like Chirs Young's name jumping into this. Not sure what trading El Duque and prospects would accomplish, but it would definately result in McCarthy in the pen or a trade of another starter.
  15. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) You said it perfect. I keep reading that everyone thinks this is good because Jon will leave with free agency next year. So what, so we are going to eat a horrible 2 year 24mil contract so we don't lose a free agent. Kenny is much smarter than that. Stupid trade, plain and simple Remember Esteban Loazia for Jose Contreras? It would be a very similar deal. Obviously Kenny thinks they can fix Javier, and his track record so far as a GM has been pretty impressive. The money still makes it a huge risk, IMO, but I trust Kenny's judgement.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Prediction: Sox will get Pierre for Young. I expect Pierre to go somewhere very soon. And if the Sox sign Pierre- the Cubs will once again lose out on one of there "targets" this offseason. Not to mention it would create a hell of a 1-2 punch on our team. Go for it Kenny! Well, I hope your prediction is wrong. I am all for getting a CF who can bat second in the lineup, but the costs are just going to be too much. Trading away Young for one year of Pierre would be horrible. I wouldn't even trade Anderson for Pierre. Crawford on the otherhand is different. He's signed for several years at a fair price and eventually could replace Pods as our leadoff guy. Even if the Devil Rays are shopping him, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, they are going to insist on McCarthy, who is untouchable. Therefore, unless the prices for these guys come down a lot, Anderson deserves the job. I think he would surprise a lot of people next year if he got the job.
  17. QUOTE(mwolfson @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) I maybe crazy but am I the only here that thinks we could match any deal offered to Paulie and keep in Chicago along with making a trade for Delgado or Thome (to DH and play 1B on Paulie's off days) without increasing the projected payroll that much. I think that we could trade Marte and a few others to either of the Phillies or Marlins for one these guys and they would eat some of the contracts. Imagine 3batting third, Thome or Delgado then batting fourth Paulie... I'm not sure about Delgado. The Marlins aren't going to pick up any of his contract, and there are rumors that Omar Minaya is desperate for him, which means the Marlins will probably get a great return. Thome, on the other hand, is a possibility, depending on how much of his contract they eat and what players we give up. I have our payroll roughly around $67.5 million without addressing 1B and DH. If our payroll is $85 million, that leaves $17.5 million to fill those positions. I think if the Phillies took both Rowand and El Duque's salaries back in trade, plus took on a solid amount of his contract, then both Konerko and Thome could fit in our budget.
  18. Here are the facts regarding Levine. He is a pretty good reporter, but he is a huge asshole who hates the White Sox. I don't think people only rip him because of his reports. He's just not a good person.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) If only it was Castillo we were interested in. I wouldnt mind dumping Tadahito a bit if we could get Castillo over at 2B..... What's with all the Iguchi hate on this message board. Without him at second (or with Willie Harris at second) I really don't think we would have had nearly the same success as we did last season. The guy sacraficed his stats in a big way last year by batting in front of Podsednik. At 2.4 million, you will not even come close to finding an all-around second baseman like Tadahito.
  20. QUOTE(Wealz @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) I think they should be very cautious about dealing Rowand. Cheap CF'ers who play the position defensively as well as he does, and provide some power, are real hard to find. Exactly. That's why we will probably get a very good return on him. Rowand is one of the top centerfielders available, and a team like the Yankees may over pay for him. With Anderson ready now, and Young most likely ready next year (if not earlier), we can afford to trade Rowand.
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) Alright, let's pull it in just a little bit. Do NOT expect to see both Konerko and Thome etched in the same 2006 lineup together on the Southside of Chicago. Thome would be a member of the Pale Hose, if, and only if, Konerko's contract demand can not be met, or the Sox wish to part ways with Paulie. You will not be seeing both in the same lineup...at least not in Black and Silver. Why is this? If the Phillies eat half of his contract then we are only paying just over 7 million a year. That's less than what Thomas made last year. Plus, Kenny has already said one of his top priorities is to add a left-handed bat. This move would kill two birds with one stone.
  22. I'm with you Hibbard. Am I pissed we lost this game? f*** YES!!! But I ain't giving up on anything. Tomorow is the key game. The Indians' offense is much worse against lefties. Mark needs to throw a gem.
  23. Actually just got MLBTV today for $20 for all the games in September and October. I had the same problem as you, but I don't think there is any legit way to get around the blackouts. My advice is to find a close relative or friend who lives outside of Chicago and ask them to purchase it for you. You can check out what areas are blackouted for each team on their website.
  24. I don't know, I think Anderson is going to be on the team next year regardless if he wins a starting job or not. I really like the idea of him rotating at all three spots next year as our fourth outfielder. One way or the other, we will have a veteran at 1B, be it Paul Konerko or someone acquired in a trade. If Rogowski makes the team, it will be as a Ross Gload type role player, which would be a good way to break him in.
