  1. Seems like there’s an actual chance Adley slips to the Sox tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 23, 2017 -> 04:10 AM) I'm a good looking straight white male who does very well with the ladies, was always good at sports, was the best singer/actor/performer in my high school and college, excelled at most things I did, eagle scout, etc etc etc. All of that is thanks to my privilege of being born white, straight and male to upper middle class parents. I didn't have to work very hard at all to accomplish all the things I have, compared to the struggle any non-white, non-male person has to go through to accomplish the same things. It's a simple matter of whether or not you have empathy. Good god dude you are one arrogant dude. What does any of that have to do with being a straight white male? The only thing your privilege has allowed you to do is become a full time social justic warrior and part time terrible film maker. The fact you've confused genetically predisposed physical traits like good looks, athletic abilities, & singing voice with privilege shows just how out of touch from reality you are.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 03:03 AM) Cubs will end up trading Baez and Jimenez (plus) for Archer The Rays are two games from a wild card spot. I can't tell if you're a closet Cubs fan or just super pessimistic.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 12:54 AM) 3 for last 38 for Basabe How many K's during that stretch?
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ May 23, 2017 -> 12:45 AM) I'm a Remillard fan. Liked what I saw in the College Series. Maybe a bump up the ladder after the draft? A bunch of those Kannapolis hitters should be in high A.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 22, 2017 -> 11:14 PM) Seems like most of the contenders are pretty solid at closer, unfortunately. Nats are a big exception, perhaps the NL Central teams too, but at this point, supply may exceed demand. Teams aren't just worried about the closer spot, they want deep bullpens with multiple high leverage relievers. I can't recall a deadline where supply exceeded demand for relievers.
  7. Great news, can't wait to get him back into the rotation.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2017 -> 02:42 AM) The next question is going to be about cash flow, with the Robert deal. Obviously we're hoping to clear a lot of salary from July-September, but how much, for example, is JR willing to eat to get a Kieboom or Soto (assuming that Robles is completely unrealistic). If the suggestion is Soto and a secondary starting pitching prospect for Herrera (control through 2018) and Cain (FA), we're going to have to eat at least 1/3rd or 1/2 to make it feasible for the Nationals. Otherwise, they'll just go to cheaper options like Herrera, Hand, Tony Watson, etc. You're assuming there is only one buyer and they'll have their pickings of the reliever market. The price for Herrera may end up being a lot higher if multiple teams are interested.
  9. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ May 22, 2017 -> 02:40 AM) wrong Kieboom..... BOOM
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 22, 2017 -> 02:03 AM) I think Kieboom may be that piece that matches up. But in three trades now we know we're discusse with Nats he never came up so who knows how we feel about him or Nats. But the Robles, Soto + for Drob/Jones/kieboom is crazy. But also when you get to that 45-50 range of prospects I'm going to guess there are wider variations among team scouts than we give credit for. I guess I assume we'll have to eat some money and therefore should get a pretty decent headliner given how well Robertson has pitched this year and the general value of high leverage relievers at the deadline. I think Robles is off limits for pretty much anything, but to me one of Soto or Kieboom plus a secondary piece seems just about right.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2017 -> 12:59 AM) I'll stop if I'm not explaining myself correctly. You said: "I've literally already stated repeatedly that most kids don't choose their college over its religious ideology." I say: "Most kids don't take a stand and protest a speaker. Upon looking into why they don't like the speaker, part of the reasoning is stuff the people who run their university believe as well." My bad if I think something is out of whack in the reasoning. I would like to stress if I am going against the Catholic rulebook by approving of any lifestyle between consenting adults then too bad for me. I approve of all people and all people's sexuality and beliefs. I welcome all. Nobody can stop me from that, not the Catholic rulebook. So you approve of the "homosexual lifestyle" despite you acknowledging it's a sin in your religion? Aren't you worried that you might end up in hell for supporting such a sin?!?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:55 AM) FWIW I do think we can get more now. But I still think we are a notch below where people are riding in trade proposals. You think one of Soto or Kieboom is unreasonable?
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) Say what you want about Trump the chump and how the country despises him. It still was unique for SNL to open with "Alleluia" song ostensibly meaning thank God that Trump has allegorically hung himself and will be gone by the start of next season's SNL shows. I'm all for comedy but think that one was kind of a stretch. I still don't think Trump is going to get impeached over the Russia thing. We shall see I guess. SNL sneaking in David S. Pumpkins in a skit was pretty classic. Overall the show was not that funny again, though. My point is I thought the Alleluia thing was a bit disrespectful at this point. I could be wrong. Maybe this week is the week the Russia thing hangs Trump. Lol
  14. Would love to see a strong start from Lopez today. Would be nice if he forced his way into the major league rotation before the end of June.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Scott Gregor reported via a source that Moncada and Robert are not really that close (compared to Ynoa). Also, that Kanny or Winston-Salem was his likely placement, but even Kanny just to get his feet wet seems too aggressive after sitting out all this time. Robert not starting in full season ball would be crazy IMO. He should definitely begin at Kannapolis and hopefully move up to Winston Salem beford the end of the season. Also, they should move up Booker to high A to clear the CF spot for him. Will be fun to follow a Fisher/Robert/Adolfo OF while it lasts.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) It looked like Avi was starting to get back to the Avi we have known a couple of weeks ago, but he has picked it up again. At what point is this real? Or is it still the mirage it has been in the past? 40 games and he has numbers Frank Thomas in his prime would be thrilled with. Fangraphs has stopped their bashing, nowhave gone radio silent about him. Could Hawk have been right? he really has been incredible this year. I was at the game early Saturday and when Gene Honda was going through the line up, Avi received the loudest applause. Not bad for a guy who the team obviously held out of Soxfest because he was booed there a year earlier. I'm still not buying in terms of an extension. I really need to see what the new Avi accomplishes over a full season before I decide if he's a long-term piece. With two more years of control, this is something we can tackle in the offseason. Regardless, it's great news that a soon to be 26 year old has potentially become a core piece. This rebuild is in much better shape if Avi can anchor the middle of the lineup for the next five or six years.
  17. QUOTE (spiderman @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:11 AM) I continue to hear this. Is this correct? - Top of the farm system is great - After the top 10 (or so), the system is thin, bottom level talent - Still thin in position prospects, although they may have C, 2B and CF (3 tougher ones) figured out Generally correct, but they have a lot more than 10 quality prospects. Hell, the Sox have a good 10+ quality starting pitching prospects alone. But yeah, the system has a serious lack of depth, especially on the positional side.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:52 AM) Pretty much my thoughts. No matter what else he does the whole recruitment video thing is huge. Also , even though there's no way to prove it., you could debate how the 3 biggest break out players so far are all Latin in Avi, Leury and Yolmer. OK maybe Swarzak and Kahnle too but you get the drift. I think there's a ton of value in having a bilingual manager. Did Robin even have any Spanish speaking coaches on the team?
  19. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:45 AM) Think Frazier, Rutherford, Fowler would be too much? I don't think they'd trade all three OF prospects in one deal. I think you'd have to get an arm as the third piece.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:46 AM) Pair Robertson with someone , maybe Ynoa to get Robles. . Nats need more than just a closer. Don't need Ynoa since Robert is already signed . Swarzak would probably make the most sense to pair with Robertson. And while I doubt they'll move Robles for anything but an impact talent, it would be fun to pull off the reliever version of the Addison Russell trade.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:38 AM) Evidently Rick is asking for Robles in return. https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/nationals/...-nationals/amp/ Might as well start high and make a Soto/Kieboom headlined package seem pretty reasonable.
  22. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ May 21, 2017 -> 01:54 AM) Wait a second, this should be worth 2x to the Sox. If this gives them 750k more space, and the tax is 1:1, then it should save them 1.5mil No, they still have to pay the $750k to Robert. They've simply reduced their tax burden by $750k.
  23. QUOTE (spiderman @ May 21, 2017 -> 01:19 AM) Is Robert a top 100 prospect? If so, where do you expect him to fall in those rankings? I've seen most speculation say somewhere in the top 25.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:50 PM) Schwarber OR Happ, Jimenez and Clifton for Q, then Cubs' fan will really be shook. And no, we're not going to settle for Almora. One of my friends who is a diehard (and smart) Cubs fan said he'd do Happ, Jimenez, + for Quintana without question. Both guys are pretty much blocked as things stand and they desperately need to add a cost-controlled TOR starter. I'm doubtful Theo would give up two of his top chips in the same deal and I'm equally doubtful Hahn would trade him to the Cubs, but I think such a deal makes complete sense for both sides.
  25. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:40 PM) Everything Collins has done is nice, but hitting in the .220s in the A ball as a 22 year old can only hurt your stock. Dunning's stock have has gone up some, but until he could prove his Low A dominance isn't due to age gap, he's still not a top prospect. Fulmer has rebounded nicely, but not sure if he's back in top 100 yet. Hansen is still in Low A, he has got a lot more to prove before he could "balance" the fall of Giolito. I think you're being too harsh on Collins. The K rate isn't great, but really isn't that bad for a power hitter who walks 20% of his plate appearances. He's also had some bad luck if his BABIP is any indication. Furthermore, like most developing young catchers, his focus has probably been on defense and we've seen great strides in this area. Without question his stock is way up this year despite a low batter average, because now he looks like just make stick at catcher in the long-run.
