Sox Trade for 2 Bonus Slots from Baltimore

Featured Replies

White Sox announce they've traded minor-league pitcher Alex Katz to Orioles for 2 international bonus pool slots worth $756,300 total.

Will be interested to see if we get anything out of the Burjous deal as well.

This is essentially a way for them to lower their tax obligation in the Robert deal by 756k... yes?

You took that seriously? It's a smart move by the Sox

Fathoms joking dudes

Really great day. Not sure how to handle Sox doing everything I want down to this stuff.

Does the bonus space acquired count towards this signing period, or the next signing period?

This. It's 100% to save some tax money from the Robert signing.

Meh, $750k it's 750k

Wish it were for next period

They'll be able to get plenty of players with a 300k per player cap.

Well, there's an open spot on the Kanny roster now. Wonder if Robert starts there.

With the pitching depth the Sox have, trading Katz for bonus slots is a smart move.

Next period is now officially worthless to the White Sox.

Imagine if they did this, then failed to sign Robert.

Suddenly Katz would become the next premier arm

Oh ye of little faith. Katz just suddenly became a top 10 arm no matter what happens with Robert.

We will still probably sign some long shot international prospects, but Robert is worth going into the penalty box for

At $300k tops per slot, we could sign almost 16 kids at that full price, and I don't see that happening. If anything the Sox will be dealing away 2018 INTL cap space.

How much did Sox sign their lower tier prospects for in years past? I'm wondering if there are teams that will sign the more interesting next tier names for slightly over $300k to beat out the penalizing teams.

Pretty sure it ranges all over, be definitely a good chunk under $300k.

Plenty of decent prospects will likely sign for $300k due to the new cap.
