  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) lol that's just not true at all. Yes, it is true. Occupy is a complete disaster, and a failure in every regard. Anyone that says otherwise is simply blind and refuses to see things as they actually are. If it accomplished, please...enlighten me. Tell us all exactly what it accomplished. This should be hilarious.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) The only way you can fail or succeed is to step up to the plate and take a swing. Maybe this will do nothing, maybe it will do something. But the cost to me is $0, so why not try? The cost is time, which is worth far more than 0$. And it did nothing. Occupy Wall Street was and is a complete failure.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) if necessary. you realize protest has actually caused a TON of social change over the years right? you may remember what happened in the 60s? *Some* protest has caused social change, not all. Occupy Wall Street did nothing of the sort.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) So let's try to make it the case. By doing what, occupying wall street?
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) The phrase "All men are created equal" means nothing to a larger section of society. While it's a nice phrase...it's also not reality.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) I'm pretty sure they said something along the lines of the mask held his jaw together after his face was busted up in the prison. If he didn't have the mask he'd be in agony. During the fistfight batman hit him there and from that moment he started playing like his face was in agony. The mask also injects pain killer (morphine) and a form of anabolic steroids into his bloodstream. It is noted in the movie that a prisoner suffered a horrible accident and became addicted to morphine. This is reference to Bane. The mask is also somehow pressurized, which can be heard leaking when The Batman breaks it. In the comics, Bane is known for wearing a mask, providing conduits which Bane uses to pump an enhanced steroid known as “venom” into his bloodstream. The venom serum gives Bane wildly augmented strength and stamina, but as a side effect it also makes him dangerously psychotic.
  7. Ok, after beta testing iOS6 for the past few weeks, I have to say while mostly incremental in terms of updates, what it did do, it did it surprisingly well. Apple Maps is every bit as good as Google's. Is it better? No. Is it just as good. Yes. Both have a few strengths the other doesn't, but they're not world killer features on either end. Microsoft's Bing Maps alternative falls far short of either. For the most part, the feature set is the same. Turn by turn, can be operated by voice command, walking directions, public transportation, driving directions, searching, etc. Returns address/phone information in searches, in addition to Yelp reviews, etc. Google: + Google's street view. Apple has 3D maps, which is not quite the same as street view, however, Apples 3D render *almost* covers this deficiency. Apple: + Apple 3D maps. This looks amazing, and scrolls smoothly, and gives you a great idea of what it looks like where you are going. In some ways this is superior to street view, in others, it's not quite as good as it's not quite as close as the images street view return. + Yelp location/information database tied into map searches along with Apple's own search database. The searches for things near you, or closest to your locations work the same, side by side they pretty much always match each other on results, Apple's however goes a step further in tying in the Yelp review database/ranking database on restaurants, hotels, etc. While a small addition to the database, it's really quite nice. Microsoft: - Bing maps falls short in almost every area. While it's general mapping software is good, it lacks a comparable "street view/3d view", as it's birds eye view already looks dated in comparison to Apple's upcoming 3D maps. - Searches. This is an area Bing Maps falls completely short, and returns almost no meaningful results. ----- This is an example of what Apple's maps looks like (note that I'm probably not supposed to post these, so don't do anything stupid that would get me in trouble): This is an example of a local search: This is an example of what 3D maps looks like (when you move the map around, it scrolls very smoothly, and can be zoomed in or out further: Not being able to see this in motion doesn't do it justice, it really is amazing looking, and functional.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Seriously, why was KC the first place to get Google Fiber? There are a lot of reasons, but one of is they make it easy to install/tear up the streets to lay the fiber...you aren't going to do that in Chicago...possibly ever.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) Our it company sucks at my office. Once again the internet and half of the servers are down. Yet Soxtalk connection still works. Sounds like DNS problems. Change your computers DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, and you should be good.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) If standing up for minority rights is stupid, I dont want to be smart. The best irony though is that in 1996 the American Family Association started a boycott of Disney for giving benefits to same-sex employees. I guess CFA isnt a fan of their own medicine. I'm not sure he's saying minority rights are stupid. Then again, I'm not sure because I don't know the current context in which he said what he said. Depending on the context, he may not be saying that at all.

    Another shooting

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) Cops already killed him, I believe. Not before said assbag shot two of them, one of whom is in critical condition. Sorry, I put should die...should have put should've died. I knew he was shot, I don't know why I forgot.

    Another shooting

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) Southern Poverty Law Center: Shooter was lead singer of a White Supremacist rock band and had ties to Neo-Nazi organizations. Reuters: Shooter was dishonorably discharged in 1998 for being drunk on duty and other misconduct. Y2HH: Shooter was an assbag with a history of repeated assbaggery. Shooter should die a slow painful death.
  13. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) There are "experts" who rate the top movies of all times and movie critics who make a living analyzing movies and none would rate the dark knight rises near the top. You can have your personal opinion on a movie and have it as your personal best but fact is it isn't the best movie ever and not even best of the series. Those aren't facts.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) I dunno. I'm still recovering from the last time I met you. It was like looking at the ark in Indiana Jones. I'm not sure how to process this...
  15. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) If he wanted to leave it up to interpretation, I don't see why there would be any need to mention the autopilot being fixed. If it was not mentioned I would question whether or not it was real, but since they made a point of it I think it is pretty obvious that the scene is real. I personally think he somehow survived...but that doesn't mean he did just because I believe it. I think that's the great thing about movies like this, there is always some sort of room for interpretation. Did he live, didn't he live...if it was cut and dried like so many of you are trying to make it appear, isn't something the entire Internet would be discussing. It's not that cut and dried. That's all I'm saying. It's interesting to think about for those of us who have loved this trilogy.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) Well, let's hypothetically say he ditched at that moment somehow...perhaps with an escape pod of some sort. That pod plummets into the ocean, hits the ocean, goes under water several tens of feet. At that point, the explosion happens. The water being fairly incompressible is hit by the shock from the explosion and the water takes the shock. The water is forced outward by the shock, pushed away from the source of detonation, and depending on the distance and whatever the escape mechanism was, you could possibly get survivable conditions. Lots of mythbuster-esque variables there. Of course, this does bring me to my other physics problem here...you set off an atomic blast at an altitude of a few hundred feet over the ocean, you create a pretty darn significant displacement of water. It would be less than if the blast happened under water...but there ought to have been generation of a pretty significant wave from that explosion...at least meters high, probably tens of meters again depending on the exact distance and conditions. In other words, Manhattan ought to have taken a tsunami hit after that thing blew. It's just something fun to think about...it's one of the things I like about Nolan's movies/storytelling.
  17. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) SPOILERS He ordered the autopilot to get fixed he didn't do it himself and nothing about the movies timeline made much sense how did he get out of prison in India or wherever and get back to Gotham so fast. Inception and Batman are also unrelated there is no question he is alive at the end and if you think otherwise you are overthinking especially since Bale said he would do another if Nolan was on board. SPOILERS I'm not the only one who questions it... An actor being open to doing more movies has nothing to do with Nolan's ending, who is notorious for muddling his endings, in practically every movie he makes. And when I mentioned Inception, I did not mean they were in any way related. I meant it as more of a, "Did Nolan pull another Inception like ending that's open to interpretation?" And I think he did...because he always does. I don't think the ending is quite as cut and dried as you do. "Alfred (Michael Caine) is alone once more and decides to continue his travels around the world in his master's absence. When he visits Paris, an earlier memory in the film is alluded to where Alfred had discussed Bruce's happiness with him. Alfred then sees Bruce Wayne with Selina Kyle seated next to him in a cafe. They both acknowledge each other. This scene is more likely to be a metaphor for Bruce finally having found peace and happiness, so it would seem Batman dies. This is a typical Christopher Nolan ending, open to interpretation." This person goes further into depth on these thoughts... "While the auto-pilot is fixed, it is certainly suggestive but obviously it does not explain how batman escaped the bat with five seconds to go before an atomic bomb with a radius of six miles goes off. Saying he survived because he's Batman is a lame explanation. Alfred's reaction to seeing Bruce alive after thinking he was dead is so calm rather than overwhelming or emotional which suggests that perhaps it is a dream or fantasy. In the end, it is very difficult to tell, there are so many clues which could make either scenario possible. I am sure others will perhaps add factors that I have missed but for the moment I am 50/50 about whether batman survived or not. Until I hear a good argument of how he escaped the Batwing/Atomic Blast with five seconds to go, generally, I do not see how he could possibly survive."

  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 06:39 AM) I really liked Bane, my favorite villain. What a badass. I think the cool way the movie ends contributes to everybody walking out of there with a good taste in their mouth. I agree with this, while the Joker was an amazing performance by Ledger, Bane was simply a more formidable villain IMO. > As for the ending...was it real, or did Nolan bait-and-switch you with Inception? I will attempt to be vague, just in case someone didn't read the spoiler tag I wrote above. Early in the movie, Alfred tells a fictional recount story to Bruce Wayne about seeing him while having a drink, but not saying anything, and finally knowing he has moved on. After the final explosion, we move to the funeral scene, and suddenly we flash over to the SAME previously depicted once fictional recount scene, only this time Wayne is with Kyle, and Alfred silently toasts them, coupled with the discovery that Bruce Wayne miraculously completed the auto-pilot program for Fox, despite never having the time to do so, being that he was in prison and all. So...did that final scene actually happen? Or did Nolan Inception us?

    Another shooting

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Without knowing any details about the weapons, that's not a step one can reasonably take yet either. I was actually saying that in jest, it wasn't meant to be taken literally or seriously. Whenever a persons response to a situation like this either of the following: 1) "We need more gun laws criminals won't follow.", or 2) "Conceal and carry could have saved all of those people!", those saying those things are to be ignored because they've added nothing to the conversation.

    Another shooting

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) I'll reply by saying that I'm not going to even guess about the cause/motive of the shooter, because whatever guess one makes is likely to be wrong. The cause motive was he/she/it was a douchenozzle bag of dicks.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) And I don't want to hear about how someone in the temple should have been packing to return fire. Would you rather hear about more gun laws that would have prevented this law breaking criminal from doing this, then?

    Photography

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) I took some photog classes in high school and college, but I've never had a really nice camera. Never been interested enough to buy a $900 camera. I just have a solid point-and-shoot that I pretty much just use for sporting events. I actually do take a LOT of great sports pictures, timing wise, but since my camera is just decent, they aren't amazing pictures. But I do have a knack for well-timed sports pictures or anticipating the action. I hope you guys can see these pics off my FB page..... My buddy blasting a HR for the Illinois Lincoln, a collegiate baseball team in Chicagoland area.... This was a great capture here, the timing was pretty much perfect, the only thing that held you back was your equipment. With a better camera, you could probably be doing some really amazing action shots. That's not to say these aren't...but from the looks of it, you've outgrown the stuff you use.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) At my college, every single persoin I've met from Texas flies a Texas flag in their dorm room. Should I not assume that you have a Texas flag in your home somewhere? Texans are very proud of their country. Joking aside, I agree with what Tex said.
