  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) But it does exist because a sizeable portion of our population doesn't believe that they should have the same rights. It shouldn't matter, but it does, and its something people have to fight for. You could have said the same thing in the 60's, that's is trivially clear that blacks should have the same rights as whites. That doesn't mean that they didn't have to fight for them. Stupid people were stupid in the 60's...and they still are today. I never said it's something they don't have to fight for. I merely said it's trivial that they even have too, because morons force their hand.
  2. As a repeat user/non user of Google Chrome that once shifted between it and Firefox, I've recently made Chrome my default on all systems...so I thought I'd share a few extensions/addons that are useful. AdBlock Plus - This one is obvious, blocks annoying ads that clutter up a website. WOT (Web of Trust) - Rankings of website safety in terms of security/privacy, etc...a ring will show up next to all search results notifying you if the site is dangerous, legit, etc. Green = Good, Red = Dangerous, etc... Ghostery - Somewhat like NoScript for FF, a widget/script/bug blocker|notifier, works quite well. Can be used to block OR just as a notification of what scripts/tracking bugs are being run against your browser. Helpful if you'd like to know who's watching you.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) You have got to pull Humber sooner than later if you want to win this game. You can tell how flat his pitches are. That and the fact he keeps walking everyone.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) Leave it to a heterosexual to consider gay rights trivial. You completely misconstrued what I said. Gay rights aren't what's trivial, the entire argument is. Because it shouldn't matter. At all. *People* should have the same rights as everyone else regardless of their sexual orientation. That's what I said, and that's what I meant. It's trivial that the subject even exists. I do not care about a persons sexual orientation whatsoever. I have so many more important concerns in my life that caring about another persons sexual origination just seems...well...trivial.
  5. We spend entirely too much time on this subject in this country. I guess it shows you how well we really have it here, despite the nonstop complaints about everything from healthcare to wars...if we truly had it rough, we wouldn't f***ing care about something as trivial as this entire topic.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) I read a good article in USA Today today about all the medical bills of the survivors of the attack. Some of the hospitals are not charging a penny to the uninsured, which is nice. Some people however and going to be buried in bills the rest of their lives. This is another reason it might be nice to have socialized medical care. These people's lives are ruined because of some guy who painted his hair orange and bought a lot of guns to shoot at innocent people who in some cases have no insurance. Read the article. It will sadden you that these good people are now in trouble financially. We don't have socialized medical care, and we won't anytime soon, if ever, despite countless stories like this one.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) The season I'm an atheist is because when I was 14 I had three family members all die sudden, unexpected and painful deaths. Then went to a Yom Kippur service where I was supposed to ask for an omnipotent God's forgiveness...for not really sinning all that much...while the world suffers, presumably because a woman ate an apple which is the basis for all the suffering in the world. I can't be bothered to praise that type of deity and the other couple thousand don't matter to me. When I see visual proof there's a God, we'll be good. Till then, Yahweh has to compete with the other thousands of gods to prove who is right and actually exists. And I also don't need a book to tell me how to be a good person, especially one written 2000 years ago.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) yeah, those are some fantastic shots, I guess I shoulda known they didn't come from you They just as easily could have been...I know how to use a camera considering how often I'm around those guys...but with the three of them already doing it, I feel no reason to jump on board that bandwagon. I do have a Rebel T1i though, and a few of the same lenses they have, but that's my wife's stuff...not mine.

Sorry for accidentally taking credit for those...they're not mine, but they really are from my camping trips! My friend Chris, that goes on all of my camping trips is a pro, he's like my personal photographer to catalog our trips. ;D Two other friends of mine are professionals, too, who also come with. It's often camera fest photography extravaganzas on these trips. The person in the Kayak is my other friend Drew, who is probably the most knowledgeable about photography of the three of them. For these images, I believe he used the following (Keep in mind the actual size of those images is upwards of 2500x1700 but I figured that's a bit too big to post here). The camera body is a Canon 1D MK4. The lenses are Canon 100mm-400mm L, 24mm-105mm L, or a wide 14mm L. The software is Aperture 3 or Lightroom 3. That body and those lenses are probably around 10 grand. All together, those three probably have over 40 thousand dollars worth of camera equipment on any given trip we go on. I just show up and watch...then I get to show off the images, and apparently take credit for them for a little while. Oh, they upgraded their equipment countless times over the years to get to where they are. When they started out in about 2004, they had simple point and shoots... The camera they usually tell people to get when they start getting serious about photography is a Rebel T3i, they can take shots with those almost as good as with their professional stuff. This is a link to his actual photo website : http://ashke.smugmug.com/

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) How do you post photos from dropbox? Mine never work. edit: great shots Put them in your /public directory, then on the website, you right click them and request a public link.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Not really, not when they're arguing that the rules of the game need to be changed to favor the rich less. They're yelling hollow arguments for the support it will bring them, all the while knowing they have no real intention of changing much, if anything.

  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) I bought it with my comp. Haven't seen that in amazon though. Where? Oh, I guess that's only for printers... You can just go here to find out what kind of memory you need: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3011 Then go to amazon or newegg and look up that exact kind.
  14. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) And the award for best post in the thread goes to...iamshack. For the record, I'm referring to what seems like a majority of people in this debate (not in this thread, just in general) who show ginned up outrage on either side, not the ones legitimately passionate. Oh, you mean the opportunistically offended.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) The DNC's main message appears to be economic inequality and unfairness. Running against a very, very wealthy ex-financial CEO who paid a very low tax rate in the one year he's released his returns makes that all the easier to sell. It's ironic when rich people try to use economic inequality as their main weapon.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) it's a huge pain in the ass, i've made 3 incorrect online orders of RAM who incorrectly promised it'd work on my mac as well ... fpptthhhh Shouldn't be an issue, all you have to do is look up what kind of ram you're currently using and buy the same type...Amazon and Newegg pretty much ask what system you have, from what year, and show you exactly what kind of memory to buy. I bought 8 gigs for my iMac for 40 bucks off NewEgg and it worked perfectly.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) Andrew Jackson's wife remains a pipe smoking woman of ill repute. ...and seriously, that avatar?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) I can't imagine that there's any situation where releasing his tax returns in October is some kind of positive October surprise, because at the very least, it'd be a huge reminder of how rich and out of touch Mitt is, which is one of the attacks that worked so well against Kerry. If Mitt didn't have something that would generate a lot of negative press in his previous years returns, there's zero reason to hold them out. Holding them out keeps this an issue. Releasing them makes them a major issue for a few days as everything is chopped through and you get a dozen stories about the different rich-person deductions Mitt has taken that aren't available to us proles. If there's nothing obscene in there though, like a 2% tax rate or taking $10 and turning it into $43 million, then release them and then 3 days later the story is over. People try to make a bigger deal out of this than it actually is. Everyone in Washington is some degree of rich, so nobody really cares about that. It's not some secret that Romney is rich, just like it's not a secret that Kerry was rich...yes, maybe richer than others, but there isn't a voter out there that doesn't realize Obama has a ton of money, too.
  19. I'd do this if you all settled on a date.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) I don't know that I find a significant difference in quality or performance between any of them. If you're not in a hurry, those devices are always on great black friday sales. This is pretty much the same I've found...there isn't much different in these devices other than the name stamped on them.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) He literally has zero reason to shut up. Yes, his words were unfairly personal, but the only way there's a downside for him is if Mitt Romney releases a decade of tax returns to prove him wrong, which Mitt clearly can't do. It's a swift boat move, but we've proven that's total fair game. People do know why Reid would bring "Mitt Romney's Father" into this right? When you have Stewart pushing back against you, it's not a very good start... Reid also has to be careful with this...while you say Mitt can't do it...you have no idea if he can or not. What if this is another Obama birther thing in the making? Where the lefty-loons drone on and on about Mitt's tax returns for months on end, and right before the election he releases them, quashing their entire platform in the process? They'd better have a better game plan than this.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) I'll agree that half the time the discussion is terrible. Greg's actually been enjoyable to talk to in this thread. But some posters who I never see out of this forum, you know their argument before they post. Arrogant presumption. What you actually meant to say is you *think* you know their argument before they post. Sometimes people can surprise you, but in order for that to happen, you'd need to give them the chance. Good dissenting discussion is fun, while discussion with people who think exactly like you is not, nor is it a challenge. If that's what you're looking for, head over to Reddit for the circle-jerk hive mind...I'm sure you'll find a lot of people who think exactly like you there. The discussion in this forum is awesome, because it's as close to "even" as I've seen in terms of political view/stances/etc. You don't have to agree with everyone to think the discussion is good. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:59 PM) f*** you jerk Are we going to allow this sort of intolerance to exist here?! BS verbally assaulted me and nobody did anything about it! I DEMAND JUSTICE!
  24. When you get Jon Stewart telling you to shut up, you know you've gone too far... This is what Stewart had to say about Reid: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/02/j...amp;ir=Politics
