the traditional line of thought is that when a pitcher has a lot of decisions, it's positive because it means a pitcher is normally working until fairly deep into the game, lots of IPs.

I was at the Charlotte/Norfolk game this afternoon and was most impressed with Bajenaru. He came in to start the 8th with Charlotte up 6-5, so it was going to be a very tough save situation, especially vs. Norfolk who is probably the best offensive team in the IL. Baj walked two guys in the 8th which was a bit nerve-wracking, but he got the final out and then mowed them down in the 9th after Charlotte added a big dose of insurance in the top of the 9th. He looked a little bit tired or just off his main game today, maybe the temp. near 100 had something to do with it, but aside from a deep fly ball to left in the 8th which was still a pretty routine play, no one had much of a clue vs. him. With those 2 IP, that probably puts him right about at 1.00 ERA (it was 1.15 going into today). Diaz, well I noticed something blatently obvious about him (and just about any pitcher) but I'll mention it anyway because it summed up his problems today pretty well. In the first 2 innings, he sat the Tides down in order, and got 1st pitch strikes on 5 of 6 hitters. In the next 2 innings, he gave up 5 runs, 7 hits and 3 BBs (the hits and BBs are IIRC) and he threw 1st pitch strikes to 3 of 15 hitters in these two innings. Norfolk's a strong team offensively, so it's not a big deal that they'd hit Diaz. But when he's facing everyone in 2-0, 3-0, 3-1 counts, he was basically killing himself more than anything. Benches cleared, but no real fight ensued in the top of the 3rd inning. With Felix Martinez on 1st and 0 out, Lopez hit a chopped GB to the Norfolk 2B (Jeff Keppinger) a few feet from the bag. Keppinger stepped on 2nd on the inside part of the bag (facing 1st) and probably was going to have no play on Lopez. Martinez slid in hard, wrenching Keppinger's ankle and Keppinger went down injured. As Martinez was going toward the Charlotte dugout, the NOR 3B (Rodney Nye) said something to Martinez, who said something back, and all the of sudden 50 Tides and Knights were chatting in the infield. Keppinger left the game. Offensively, everyone contributed something EVEN JOE BORCHARD Brown's HR was a bomb, any ball hit out to CF in this park has to be a bomb.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) In my first post ever on Soxtalk, let me say that I believe El Duque will sense the importance of this game and come up big tonight. The question is, will the offense follow suit? Welcome, I second your first post.

Who should be known as "Mr T-Ball"?
gettysburg32 replied to AngelasDaddy0427's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's T-ball Stand, oh, and I vote for "none of the above" -
I've only seen them 3 or 4 times but they are a fun team to watch, and they are winning in a very similar way to the Sox. Mostly low scoring, mostly down to the last couple innings, and then the Nats find a different way/player to win. Plus, you gotta love Frank Robinson. Toma Ohka says "F off", a few days later, Frank says "f*** you, get lost, off to MF'ing Milwaukee" and not to mention they get Junior Spivey in the deal and Spivey hits the key homer today. Loaiza's doing great for them too.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Don't worry, as soon as Dye takes an 0 for, Timo will be in the lineup. I'm about ready to predict Timo will play 1b tomorrow. If the Sox win tonight, which Sunday option would be more horrifying? Frank at 1B or Timo at 1B? :puke -
I think we finally have a thread that unites all of soxtalk

Since birth, my dad and his dad are long-time Sox fans, I was never given a choice in the matter.

He had two bad innings, not games, or weeks, but innings. I say he deserves to be released for that crap, demotion would be too kind.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Wow, I cannot believe Duque made it through 6 innings. How the hell does he do that? I don't know, but right now it seems like the key to this game. Nearly 60 pitches through 2, and at 102 now. The Duke =

1-2-3 go the Rocks. Easiest inning of the year for The Duke.
