I hope he can help turn chicken s%*# into chicken salad. This team has been depressing for far too long.

I'm curious how Stewart acquired a potential group that has over $2 billion to spend for an established franchise? Once again-- until more potential bidders come onto the scene, we could all assume that this is a ploy to get that tax payer $$ for the stadium in the southloop. It's pretty obnoxious to openly sell your team to a bidder actively trying to get a MLB franchise in another city. Talk about a big FU to the city that made him rich beyond comprehension. Disgusting!

All solid points. Identifying talent has always been a major issue with this team. Mostly because of the lack of investment the team puts into scouting. (Yet another Jerry issue) And when they do finally get a blue chip quality prospect/ player- they usually end up disappointing. My guess it’s because of their out dated approach with these players down in the minor leagues. I was also shocked when they drafted Hagen Smith when there were still multiple notable bats in the board. If I had to guess why they did this, it’s likely because of their endless shortcomings for developing position players/hitters. Their approach is likely to overload the system with pitching, and eventually trade some of the pitching capital for position players. Since many other organizations know how to develop hitters and the Sox can’t, they’ll likely bank on this approach. If I had to guess, Garrett Crochet will be traded for 2 position players this winter to continue that process. We saw what Getz got in return for Cease and Fedde, let’s hope he doesn’t get fleeced once again. Crochet is the best piece he will likely have to deal over the next 2-3 seasons. He can’t afford to screw it up. We all know this organization needs a complete overhaul, not just the “hitting lab” like I suggested before. We likely won’t see that happen until Jerry leaves for good. So until that day happens, we’re all just stuck in the mud watching the whimsical decisions of an 89 year old bored narcissist billionaire.

Reinsdorf isn’t selling. And now everyone in the baseball world knows that he has his hands in on every department of the organization. So how is one supposed to do their job correctly when their boss is always overlooking their shoulder and adding archaic influence? Not only is Jerry a major problem, but Getz is super under qualified for this mammoth task of fixing the most dysfunctional team in the MLB. The funny thing is, he was actually apart of the dysfunction and got promoted from within. To me, that’s where the problem lies. As a homeowner, I wouldn’t hire a contractor assistant to fix my house when he was apart of the company that messed up my wiring, plumbing and HVAC system. Seems pretty illogical. Regardless of his qualification status, we all know that even if he can do the job, his hands would be tied by his narcissistic, lazy-buffoon of a boss that seemingly can’t get out of his own way. On a positive note, the hire of bannister and the pitching lab is top notch. I was pleasantly surprised with the young starting pitching this year. Now, can Getz somehow make a respectable hitting lab and hire the best, advanced hitting coaches and instructors to maximize potential at every level of this organization? I’m doubtful. Can they revamp the analytical side and hire 30-40 new data engineers to try and give the coaches at every level of the organization an edge? I’m doubtful. Until then, it doesn’t matter who they hire as manager, or even who they sign for cheap in free agency. It’ll be the same old archaic Jerry reinsdorf-led white sox.

The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox
GreatScott82 replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah. The only silver lining to this dogcrap season was the fact that national reporters and writers came in to truly see the truth behind Jerry's archaic operation. He's been concealing this for so long, which is likely the reason for his constant "in-house" hires or "loyalty" to his employees approach. Deep down he knew his methods would be deeply criticized if ever exposed. Welp... they are offically exposed! It's everything we anticipated with the ineptitude of this franchise year after year. Jerry must sell now!! BOYCOTT that loser! -
Sox looking at building in South Loop
GreatScott82 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When I saw those numbers come out, I thought to myself, wasn’t that Related Midwest on the 78 stadium proposal under $2 billion? So Jerry can invest $3.5 billion on improving the surrounding UC parking lots and not build his own gem on the 78 plot of land? Something isn’t adding up. -
Man, that Pedro Grifol hire was horrible. They had guys like Bruce Bochy and Matt Quatraro available for the taking and they went with the KC bench coach. Moving forward, can they at least learn from this and bring in people from winning organizations instead? That tends to have a higher probability of yielding better results.
-
If the Sox don’t fire Grifol after today’s game in Oakland, then he is undoubtedly going to stick around for the rest of this awful season.
-
What’s the logic behind keeping this toolbag around the remainder of the season? If it’s for financial reasons, that’s laughable. Didn’t Jerry just spend like $3.5 billion on an infrastructure development plan outside of the United center. Yet he can’t pay 2 managers a total of $2 million dollars? Lol I love how Jerry has these unwritten rules of “business” as he watches this team continue to burn to the ground and smolder into the deep dark blemishes of everlasting Hell. ?

I think we can all agree that Chris Getz isn’t qualified to be the GM of an MLB franchise. That Fedde/Kopech/Pham deal was BRUTAL. Anyone who argues otherwise is dumb or a friend of Getz. The whole “we should be happy we got this for a guy who wasn’t even in the league last year” take is ridiculous. The Sox had a reliable/effective starting pitcher that many teams wanted, and Getz brings us back a bare cupboard package. Wake me up when Jerry sells our favorite team.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)

The O’s are prospect hoarders. They are not giving up Mayo or Holliday unless it’s for Skubal. They seem to be obsessing over him. -

https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-insider-ken-rosenthal-says-223401368.html Getz being smart here. If he’s not getting the proper deal, just wait until winter where he will undoubtedly have more suitors and a better crop of prospects to choose from. -
Heyman live chat at B/R noon central time
GreatScott82 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Maybe true.. but there has to be other organizations that can offer something more appealing. Some of the mock proposals I’ve read were so underwhelming. And to be honest, the Sox simply don’t need to trade him now. If other teams are using the innings limit as a way to lower the cost, then don’t trade him. I get the concern, but essentially you’re getting a wicked reliever for the playoff run AND a potential Chris Sale reincarnate for 2025 and 2026. Surely, there has to be more than the low cupboard Dodgers who are interested? -

A high volume of prospects always seems good on paper, but sox fans are well aware that these large packages often tend to leave very little result. I would rather trade Crochet for Mayo straight up instead of a bunch of low A players with high ceilings. Let’s face it, the Sox don’t have a good track record for developing positional talent. I know I’m being pessimistic, but my faith in White Sox management and development is lacking. -

Bob Nightengale , Jesse Rodgers, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman all predict that the Dodgers will acquire Crochet at the deadline. I say the odds are really good they get him. To be honest, I didn’t think they even had enough to get him..Getz dropping the asking price for his crown jewel? -
Yep. I expect one of these nothing burger OF signings soon as well. Pham and DeJong about to go bye-bye. They will be missed. lol

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
GreatScott82 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Yes. Sox got a package back from NY centered around Blake Rutherford for Frazier, Kahnle and Robertson. I liked the trade at the time. Rutherford was one of those up and coming prospects. He just never panned out. It could have been a combo of the typical Yankee overhype mixed with the fact that the Sox can’t develop for crap. When the Sox trade for prospects, I immediately hope they are triple-a players, close to the big leagues. Other organizations tend to do a much better job developing the younger players than the Sox do. Perhaps Barfield can change this everlasting trend? If the Sox do trade Crochet, I want 2 high end triple-a prospects ready for the show. Can’t afford to trade for young projects that will inevitably fail like Blake Rutherford did. -
GMs skeptical teams meet price for Robert
GreatScott82 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Good point. I highly doubt Jerry takes on any more significant contracts (to Jerry’s standards) Even if he does make it 2027 as the majority owner, and the Sox are ready to round out the roster, Sox fans will likely be pissed off again as Getz will be forced to bargain bin shop. I’m assuming the timeline of this rebuild is going to be in sync for when Reinsdorf’s children assume the franchise. It will be an easier team sale with zero large player contracts connected. Benintendi’s $$ will likely be Jerry’s last “big” payout to any player. I just can’t see him committing any sort of large $$ moving forward. Especially with his focus on building another stadium. -
GMs skeptical teams meet price for Robert
GreatScott82 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
I think if all goes well, 2027 will be the absolute earliest that this team is competitive again. 6 to 7 years seems pretty ridiculous. Was Bowden being sarcastic or something? Even the last failed rebuild (2017-2019) took 4 years to reach their competitive window. If 2024 is considered year 1 of their unofficial rebuild plan, then theoretically they should be right there in contention by year 2027. Hopefully the White Sox can get a better lottery draw when they are eligible again for the 2026 draft. Hopefully Jerry will finally open up his big boy wallet then as well to round out the club! Lol Jk. We all know that’s not happening. Gotta pinch those pennies!! -
I’m glad he’s alive! Sad about his Parkinson’s though. He was the manager of one of my favorite childhood White Sox teams ever in 1990. Didn’t he also get Ozzie Guillen into coaching as well down in Miami? He was a really good manager from what I remember.
-
Yep.. just like the rebuild led by Hahn/KW from 2017-2019. And when they finally had enough prospects graduate to the main roster, instead of rounding out the team with superstars and bringing in a legit manager, Jerry put his foot down and said you cannot spend over X amount of dollars!! Pretty lame since the Sox saved $100-$150 million on cheap payrolls from 2017-2019. So Hahn was forced to only bring in “B” level free agents. And Jerry also put his foot down, overstepped Hahn to hire his BFF manager Tony LaRussa. Getz can likely bring in wonderful, legit prospects who can truly contribute to the future White Sox teams. This rebuild will likely last from 2024-2026. These teams will have super low payrolls. Saving Jerry and the board millions of $$ (Again!!) However, we know the drill. The Sox will be knocking on the door in 2027 to be a legit team. They’ll have a few holes and there will be legit superstars available via free agency, and a 92 year old Jerry will once again put his foot down, forcing Getz to bring in the B level free agents and he will hire his own manager again. Any chance they can bring Jeff Torborg back to life?

Same. Between that statement and his lack of effort in finding a more deserving general manager. Let’s not forget some of his other statements in the past: "Finish in second place every single year because your fans will say 'Wow, we got a shot. We're in it! ' But there's always the carrot left." (According to Dave Sampson) And this beauty of a statement: "Sports is a business of failure but the fact that you finish second or third or fourth it doesn’t mean you had a bad year." -Jerry Reinsdorf When casual fans at the stadium see a “sell the team” sign, there are plenty of reasons why.
-
Excellent post. The new CBA rules really expose those tightwad owners even more, IMO. They can no longer reap the benefits of a true tanking rebuild. Doing this while simultaneously saving $100-$200 million during a span of 3-4 years on super trim payrolls. Doing all this with a “goal” of top 5 draft picks annually. Obviously the lowest hanging fruit is the fact that Jerry will never spend on a superstar, blue-chip players. However, another major issue is his lack of investment in the scouting department, developmental system and data analyst. The White Sox are so behind, it’s embarrassing. White Sox fans have always questioned Jerry’s commitment to winning. But seriously, is there even a debate anymore? This is more of a business venture/niche hobby for him versus a the obvious goal of winning another championship. The White Sox are indeed a large market team. Don’t let Jerry fool you other wise behind his $2 billion net worth. Don’t let him cry poor and tell you that he can’t win in the current stadium. The White Sox have plenty of resources to act like a major market franchise. However, a choice is being made not to allocate those resources appropriately. I can’t wait for the day an owner of our favorite team puts winning as priority #1…
