College
This is good advice but take what "regular" students say lightly as well since the students you talk to may have some personal problem with the school and therefore tell you the student is horrible. My point is to just be sure to judge everything for yourself and don't base it on what others say about it. Also, trust the tour guides a little bit because actually at most schools the tour guides are not being paid but are in fact volunteers. So they actually like the school and are not just telling you what you want to hear. So it's best to take what everyone says together when deciding on how you feel about the school. Also, I really think visiting schools is important because it could help you avoud going to a school that you end up hating. Speaking on personal experience, Georgetown University was my number 1 choice, but about 5 minutes into the school's info session, I hated everything there was about that school. I left before even taking a tour.

A Winter F@#$ing wonderland 2004
You know the only part about going home that I am dreading is all the snow that is supposed to come. But I'll suck it up because it'll get me away from school for 3.5 weeks. Meanwhile here in DC there has been a light snow tonight. Due to the light snow, weather.com felt it was necessary to issue a winter weather advisory and to tell people to "dress in layers and wear hats to cover their heads." (Why people shouldn't already know that, I don't know.) Also in the winter advisory was this: (oh no! a 1/2 inch!) Thought some of you may find amusement in this...my New York roommate and I certainly did.

College
If you want to see the campus when there's students around to get a feel for everything then definitely spring break. If that's not too important to you then summer. Personally, I waited until the summer.

College
There's princetonreview.com. You can search for schools there and then request that they email the school for you for more information. Also, collegeboard.com has a "college matchmaker" so they'll take information from you and then find colleges they think are good for. It may help you look at colleges you had never considered before. Something similar to that is actually how I discovered my school. And like Soxnbears said most schools have places to request information on their site. Good luck!

first attempt at making a sig
Thanks! And actually the reason why the eyes are heading in the same direction is because that's the original picture. I met Richard and the rest of the cast while here in DC for school a while back.
