QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) Yeah, I base them being bad teams on the roster and talent level. Didn't the Colts under Manning look bad pretty much every pre-season when they were one of the best teams in the league each regular season? Analysts can make limited reads in the preseason but limited is what they are. So many studies have been shown that there is zero correlation between the preseason and regular season. Every team and coach goes about it different ways. The Colts would pretty much go 0-4 in the preseason for the majority of the time Manning was with them. Pre-season means squat.

Greg, Please just let it go. please... for all of us.

At what point is this season not considered a success?

QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 01:15 AM) The White Sox are in 4th place in the AL West, at 60-72, 14 games back of the Kansas City Royals, with the 5th worst record in the American League, and 8th worst record in all of baseball. They have NO reliable bullpen pitchers going forward. Zach Putnam has had a nice run, but he's managed only 45 innings, and went on the DL seemingly from overuse. There isn't a single additional bullpen piece that can be counted on. As for starters, we have the incomparable Chris Sale locked up for years. Jose Quintana seems like a quality starter, but he ends up with far too many no decisions and losses to know for sure. He doesn't seem like a #2 guy, more like a decent #3 guy or very good #4 guy. John Danks has had a year better than most would expect, but he's still overpaid and therefore not easily moved. and not part of the solution. Hector Noesi and his zero WAR? If it weren't for our total lack of right handed starters, we'd more easily see him as what he is - a fill in starter on a weak team. The Sox may have added pieces this offseason in Abreu, Eaton, and Garcia (late 2013), and tied up their best pitchers with favorable contracts, but I don't think you can say this is a successful season by any means. Making the playoffs has to be the definition of a successful season. Competing for a World Championship has to be the measure of a successful season. Anything short of that and you haven't been successful. Period. huh? -
finally saw Boyhood over the weekend, I really enjoyed it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) It is a balancing act. What I don't want to see if those losses come at the expense of development. For example, if you are the White Sox, and Avi Garcia hits .100 with no power for September, what do you do? Maybe it gets you a better draft pick, but if it comes at the expense of the team's future, that isn't good. I'd much rather see games won because guys like Sanchez, Flowers, Garcia, etc are playing well, than for the kids to go into the tank and us to get a better draft pick. Usually to lose games, you need to have players play losing baseball. If it is just the pen blowing games, fine. Any more than that, and we do more harm than good for the future of this organization. It isn't as simple as Lose Baby Lose! we had to explain the same thing LAST YEAR to everyone on the board -
I think the point is they created the term, where as blacks appropriated the term.

Well it was Cowboys camp which to me would be a server punishment, just let me be on slop instead. I think Derrick is the one to beat right now, Zach has played a good game but I feel he'll have more enemies by the end where if Derrick keeps playing the way he is, they won't really know he was pulling all the strings until it's too late. I think they will have to respect his game play over Zach's in the end. Enough with that brat Rachel! So glad I was able to fast forward through her

totally agree, I've had that feeling for a few years now with football, can't get too excited, there could be a flag or a challenge. Now those feelings/reactions are moving over to baseball too.

Harrelson, predictably, taken to task by media

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 02:58 AM) I don't know why some of you guys aren't more mad at Hahn for the Addison Reed thing. I mean it's inexcusable to trade away a good closer (a proven closer for those of you who don't think he was good) when you have no closer candidates in the current organization. It's pretty bad GM'ing I think. You know, he did acquire some pieces in putting together his version of a bullpen. It's not like he didn't try. He just failed. That's what makes me shake my head at you guys giving him a free pass. He thought he was building a bullpen, but he failed miserably. It's just plain ridiculous to see all these bullpen implosions. If I was a season ticket holder, I'd surely be mad. I don't know why we have to explain this to you for the 200th time.....stop beating a dead horse.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) I think this thread has become kind of disrespectful to a sox legend and nobody can deny his status in sox lore. I think it is making sox fans look bad but I'm all for free speech too. Anybody agree? NO

Was there something wrong with Jocasta during the ending of the battle of the block competition? She was just rambling stuff.....

wow.....that was painful and funny at the same time.

It was really good, what a great sequel.

private prisons, crime goes down, inmate numbers go up . Longer sentences. . The passage of laws that require minimum sentencing, without regard for circumstances. . A large expansion of work by prisoners creating profits that motivate the incarceration of more people for longer periods of time. . More punishment of prisoners, so as to lengthen their sentences. just like going to war it's become a big business

kinda pissed they hyped up the big blowup/meltdown on last nights ep only to not show it until tonight. I find myself rooting for people who I didn't quite like at first/still not decided on just because Devin is such a douche.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:22 AM) Today's game killed the .500 talk again. If we had a closer .... Have you seen what our former "closer" is doing over with the Diamondbacks?....yet you keep beating a dead horse.
-
please no, I have nothing against him but let's move forward not backwards. We are not contending this year, let these guys take their lumps.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) That is complete bulls*** but we can go with it. Probably a lot of bias in the answers. They might stay on it for some of those reasons when they are married but they didn't go onto it for those reasons. Total load of s***. Common sense tells you that. You're crazy if you don't think women use it for those reasons just as well.
