  1. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) No, the official time is 7:30 EST, so it should start around 8 EST. Go Sox!!! We shall see... hopefully you are right.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) According to ESPN.com's scoreboard...first pitch is scheduled for 8:03 EST...7:03 CST, 5:03 for me. So expect another half hour. It has been at least 28 minutes longer than what the official time says for every game this post-season.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) I don't want to register. Bugmenot is a wonderful thing...
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 05:59 AM) Ya, they are. FWIW, which I'm sure is a well-known fact on Soxtalk, is that, IIRC, Shoeless got his name because he either caught flyball or he was running around the bases after he kicked off his shoes. They got their name Black Sox from Comiskey being a cheap POS and not paying laundry, thus their socks(or "Sox") remaining dirty, never becoming "white", but remaining "black." Hench, Black Sox.
  5. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) His shoes?? Not like he used them... People that think he didn't wear shoes ( not implying you) is almost as bad as the people that think the sox got the nickname ''black sox'' because of what happened in the 1919 world series.

  7. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) Dude, that's awesome. I actually drafted him this year in the soxtalk league. An SG from my high school (Gordon Tech) was signed by the Supersonics, but he never actually played in an NBA game. Tommy Kleinschmidt...have you ever heard of him? He graduated from HS when I graduated from 8th grade & he went on to become a star at DePaul. He was playing in the Japanese League last I heard. Yes, of course. He was one of the bigger names that year with from illinois. Howard and kleinschmidt both is the top three from the state and top 25 overall. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) My brother used to sell him weed when he was at DePaul. Ya, he was supposedly a big time pot head from what i have heard.
  8. Went to my highschool... only person to make it pro in any sport from reavis.

    QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) How 'bout slippers... Slippers are fine. I am talking about guys that have their nasty feet/toes exposed. It is not a good site to see. I really dislike feet in the first place and mens feet are that much worse than a womens ( in most cases). :puke

  13. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Konerko's dad shouldn't be making comments about his contract situation on the eve of the World Series to any reporters. For those comments, he looks like an ass to all of us fans. Anyhow, Paul just needs to help us get 4 more wins and I could honestly care less whether or not he is brought back. Not one of my favorite Sox players at all. Like his production, hate his inconsistency during the regular season, especially when he sucks for a month or two. As long as a suitable replacement is brought along, which I think Dye going to 1B could be the move, I'll be satisfied. Our team is built around pitching, not Konerko. We don't need any albatross contracts. Signing Garland to a long term deal should be our top priority this offseason, not Konerko. How many players around the league hit .300 every month .290 every month, .280 every month, .270 every months of the season? You will be shocked at how few are ''consistent''. Many players will have a couple sub .250 months. What konerko did this year is far from out of the ordinary.
  14. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Discounts do exist. Thome offered a big one to the Cub. They turned him down. Giles gave one to Pitt, Griffey to Cincy, & so on. Even Sweeney took on more deferred $$ to hang with the Roys. Both Delgado & Vlad took on backloaded contracts plus deferred $$$ to sign with their new teams. Then you have the opt out contracts like the Cub & their 3B. He can opt out & become a FA if he thinks he can earn more. So there is contract flexibility occuring all over the league for players who really want to stay with their teams. It's just a question of how bad Paulie wants to remain a White Sox. Are you kidding me? None of thsoe examples are home town discounts. Google each of these players with the words ''hometown discount'' and see how many people agree with you. Taking backload deals to sign with a new team is a home town discount? They are still getting their money at one point. Their respected teams will still be paying the same amount and will most likely end up hurting them more after the first two years of the deal. Players that give hometown discounts are the much cheaper players... not superstars. Hometown discount to me is when a play could get 48 million@four years but resigns with his current team at 40 million@ four years. Something along those lines...
  15. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) For once they are not ripping on the sox espn story Are you not the one that says people on this site should not care about if news outlet is bashing the sox or not? I do not see the purpose for you posting this.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I would venture to guess that Konerko's father knows more about the situation than us. I would also venture to believe home town discounts do not exist.
  17. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) When we first won the ALCS, my thoughts were "I don't care what happens now, I'm just happy to be here." More and more, however, I feel I will be seriously let down if they can't win 4 games against Houston. Not sure why that's happening; the more I think about it, the more I think Houston will roll over us. Were you and anthrax both dropped on your heads repeatedly as children? Only explanation i can think of...
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) Lyle Overbay.. Come on down your the next Sox 1st Basemen After the ALCS, I wanted Pauly to stay, but there are other needs that this team needs in the Offseason. Which of course I will address when the series is over.
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Paulie for 5 years 65 million? Five guaranteed years would be awful. Three years guaranteed and two option years would be ideal. But what i see the sox offering is four years and an option for the fifth.
  20. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) If the Sox win the whole shabang, does The Big Hurt count as a part of the team? I sure hope so. /off topic Like get a ring? If that is what you mean, yes.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Doesn't Manny not want to go to the Mets anymore? As for Konerko and Boston, I can't see it. He's said repeadtly, even though he was born there, he doesn't see himself living there. So I'd say it's either us, the Angels or another West Coast team like the Dodgers. Of course if the Angels do sign him, then maybe the likes of Casey Kotchman and Kendry Morales do become available. But they've got to re-sign the likes of Molina (4 years @ 7M, ouch), and maybe try to dump Steve Finley on the Yankees before they do anything else. Who cares if he wants to go to the mets? If they want him gone he will be going wherever they decide. I still think the sox are not as big of a lock to resign konerko as others do. He will most likely recieve a four year deal with an option and not a three year deal with an option. I also expect him to make on average twelve million a year, which in other words, overpaid. I know there are people here that want him signed no matter the cost... but three years into that deal when he cannot walk, let alone run, they will be regretting it. If his hip is as bad as people make it out to be i am scared by it. Short-term i see him helping us... but down the road i see him f***ing us over ( not his fauly) If the angels end up dumping finley it will not be to the yankees... one of their main goals for this off-season is resigning matsui, centerfielder ( that does not suck), and as always starting pitching.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) This coming from qwerty the grammar master?? I'll fix it, my bad. I like that... hopefully it sticks.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) I know absolutely nothing about hockey but nuke just cause you don't like the owner doesn't mean you can't stay loyal to a team that you've always liked. There are a lot of people that don't like Reinsdorf doesn't mean they can't like the sox or the bulls but whatever I really don't know much of the topic being discussed so I probably shouldn't get involved but just stating that you can remain loyal to a team even if you don't like the owner. Damn, that is one long sentence.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2194428 Look for the braves to lose the division next year. This is the first time i have ever even said or thought that in my life time. The list of pitchers he made good out of no where ( and then turned back to s*** when they left) is long as f***. He will be a damn good manager but unfortunately he is in the wrong division to do anything worthwhile IMO.
