QUOTE(backman @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) A couple people have Milwaukee taking Williams first. Personally I think they would be better off with a big man like Bogut A couple of retarded people?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Speaking of the draft, are we going to have a draft board also? Or is it going to be a thread on here, anyone thought about it yet? Draft board sounds good. Then we can post articles and snippets about some players teams are working out, how players stock are raising/decling, etc...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) I just went through that link and could see all the posts on all 5 pages? The only posts that should be missing was that month period where I screwed up doing an update and we had about a months worth of offseason posts that weren't backed up. I see just seven on the first page. I will show you a screen shot of it later. -
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 24, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) What if Baj was traded? Given the injury and inconsistencies of Dotel, maybe they could want him as a closer. I know all of us want him up here. But if we had a choice between him and BMac getting traded, which would it be? No. They have other options to close instead. One would be street another could be duchscherer.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) Ahh, what an intelligent post. We were just sweeping them yesterday with ease. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) No thanks, you can keep him now, I want Brandon to stay, he is the man. Although, I would give up Honel or Tracy and Crede, but that would be with fair trades off. Honel = nothing. I am sure they would like him.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) OK 20 minutes of searching and I give up.... That thread was classic. I have been looking too. Maybe it disappeared like that other thing we were looking for before? This is starting to piss me off. Anyway, why is it that on some of the old posts you can only see have of a thread? About half of the posts are not there and are blank. An example is this one. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...1&st=&p=entry -
Ricky Williams 'absolutely' set for Fins Camp
qwerty replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He better watch his back in training camp. If i was one of his teamates i would snap his legs in half. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) s***, I'd rather have Rogo come up than scrape the bottom of the barrel with millar, come on guys, that a little bit of a stretch. Millar > konerko? Yes. Rogoswki is never gonna be in the majors unless a miracle happens and he suddenly gets great. Just because konerko is a fan favorite and he can do no wrong doesn't mean there are players either as good as he is or better than he is for the money differential.

QUOTE(tempe85 @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) By the way I have to ask you guys.... Where did Iguchi come from? Last year Kaz Matsui had unbelievable hype and chatter and then ended up bombing. I never even heard of Iguchi until just recently and he seems to be twice the player of Kaz and plays the same position. http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/pl...sp?PlayerID=970

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) What thrid baseman's out there are FA's this off-season. A stopgap guy could be needed until Josh Fields is ready the way Crede has been going lately, but lets hope he can turn it around, and hit like he did in April. Joe randa... then no one else that we would care about.
-
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) Has that argument been used recently? I believe it was valid when it was used. I always thought it was stupid. You just can't pick and choose outings and say they did not happen. How about we take away three or four of buehrle's worst outings from last year? Sounds fair to me. How about we take out those two s***ty months uribe had? It is just makes no sense to me.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) As opposed to how many breaking pitches away that guys like Crede waved at and missed? Watching the highlights (if you can call them that ) again on MLBTV I counted 7 strikeouts on off speed stuff between 80-85. 6 of those Ks were junk low and away. Not many people are gonna hit his off speed pitches when he is throwing 94-95 with pin point control. He is one of the best pitchers in the minors for a reason, he is very good. Most of his change ups were is the 82-83 range and a 12 mile an hour difference of off your nasty fast ball is sick.
-
QUOTE(ReinsdorfSucks @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) well the chances are pretty darn good that if this team does make the playoffs they will have to play a west coast team Welsome to soxtalk.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) He's making $3.5 million this year, so he'll be getting around 5 million next year. I think we can do better with that money. He really is slow. True, not Konerko slow, but who really is? Five million is no guarantee if he keeps up his .680 opsgive or take .50-.70 points. If he puts up numbers closer to his career average he will get that without a doubt. We has one person on thsi team that is just as slow if not slower than konerko and that would be pierz, another would be david ortiz. There are some more but not too many.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) I still think he's up a little early but he's in the same class as the Sox Brandon McCarthy in the sense that he has the ability to come up and make an immediate impact. He needs at least a half more year in the minors. I know he threw a hell of a game today but he will still have his share of games like he had against the indians unless he gets some more time in the minors to work on things.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Millar's versatile? He's just as slow as Konerko, but with much less pop in his bat. I've seen him play for two years now. Of course, he's a "team leader," too. He's a poor man's Pauly. He's definitely last on my list. Yes, more versatile. He can play left and first while konerko can just play first. That seems like two to one to me. Also, he is not slower than konerko. He hits for a higher average along with a higher ops ( career wise). Millar's career ops is 121 while konerko's is only 111. Millar we also be significantly cheaper than konerko.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) To answer the title of this thread, I truly hope not. Konerko is the definition of a one-dimensional player. He can hit homeruns, period. Some team will pay him much more than we will because of that. He's not even worth the $8 million he's getting this year. Even better, 8.75 million this year.

Shh... Welsome to soxtalk.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) I would think about JT Snow, Millar and Durazo. Durazo would be third on my list. Durazo would be number one by a large margain if he could play first base. Then it would be millar and snow. I like millar because he is pretty versatile which is always nice.
-
QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) It looked like Timo was scared to get hit by a fly ball he caught with his signature one handed catch. One thing I am not sure about though is how did Garland get charged all of those runs if they were on errors? They were not charged as errors. Only uribe's in the 8th inning was.
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Are there any decent 1B replacement options in FA this year? Does someone have a list of guys? I agree that we shouldn't pay Konerko a ton of money, but I also don't want to see Ross Gload or some other in-house schmuck replacing him (unless Fields develops faster than expected). It looks like it would be pretty tough to get one in a trade: the only ones that come to mind are Overbay and Huff, who will cost a ton, and hot prospects like Adrian Gonzalez and Ryan Howard that are much less of a sure thing. Durazo>konerko.
