  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) Oscar thoughts: John Hawkes should have been nominated. Ever since I heard of The Sessions plot synopsis I thought it had a great chance of getting a lead actor nomination. Kinda shocked, as the Academy generally loves that sort of thing.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 05:23 AM) I thought the humor in it seemed like it had a Troma feel to it. Maybe in a highly watered down fashon there are some similarities. The humor here is a blend of a few others, with a touch of its very own. Either way if you're into a fun ride drenched in surrealism this would rank rather high up there I would think. It should be noted this film is not gonna before everyone. Kalapse you have my approval, I say give it a go if you have not yet, this is right up your alley.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT SAFE FOR WORK Fans of Troma might like this This does not have a real Troma feel to it. I like Kaufman, but his films are hardly as smart of a film as John Dies At The End. I have seen it already as I a fan of Don Coscarelli's work. He is the youngest person ever to have a feature length film distributed by a major studio at only 19 teams of age. Some may know his work such as Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep, or The Beastmaster.

    2012 Films Thread

    I have been in the process for years now watching every film ever nominated in every category since 1929. My whole purpose of this is to break down the nominees down by decade, choose what I consider to be the actual best, and when I have my/my teams winners from each decade they will all do battle for the number one spot. This is no small task, I am talking several thousand films to be analyzed and critiqued, with no stone unturned. The reason I am doing this is because truth be told, the Academy misses the mark, and misses it by far too much, on a rather consistent basis. The Academy tends to love itself too much for my liking, and films/people get nominated and end up winning for unworthy reasons year in, year out. Were the actual winners even truly worthy? Why weren't they? Etc... My goal is to try and bring films, performances, and techniques to light to the general audience that very well may be forgotten expect for a select few. There will be facts galore, lost quotes, (what I mean by that is a great deal of research at public libraries), interviews, etc. I plan on having a site side by side before this goes into publishing, because I do not want to to scare people off with the sheer size of this sucker. The site would be a way to ease people into it. I suppose it could be broken down into segments, but I am not too keen on that idea currently. From what I have gathered, something this extensive, fun, and knowledgeable has never been done on this scale. So, if you know anyone interested, or are interested in participating yourself, let me know as soon as you can. If you have an abundance of interest, contact me, and we can figure out if something like this is truly for you. Thanks. If you need help with foreign films in any regard, send me a pm if you like Jake.

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Because in 99.9% of written Batman storylines, Batman (Bruce Wayne) has a steadfast rule to... not kill people? I don't see what's so hard to understand. Hell, the first movie of the series, Batman could easily kill Ra's Al-Ghul, gets challenged on his "rule" and says something to the tune of "I won't kill you... but I don't have to save you." And then you know like decades of comics and storylines and all that. Frank Miller decided to have Batman kill the Joker in "The Dark Knight Returns", which pissed people off - but for the most part he doesn't kill people, asdfgh. You said Batman does not kill people. Batman has indeed killed people, and in some pretty ridiculous ways at that. For one he killed plenty in the 89-90's films. In Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns he shot a mutant thug and killed him to save a child hostage, since you are a fan of his work. Batman killed dogs in the Dark Knight, throwing them down stairs. He has impaled killer Croc, shot Darkseid with intent to kill, etc. There was a time in which he had a gun which he shot, pushed a statue on a crowd of Mongols, hung people, starved people, burned people while having sex, he has used machine guns from the bat plane, machine guns in general, rocket launchers, he disguised himself as an Asian to stab an Asian enemy, pushed a guy into acid, stabbed people, and because it is getting old listing the way Batman has not killed people... burn a building down full of people. This is not even putting into account his supposed ''accidental deaths'' that have occurred. There has also be an abundance of times Batman could have saved someone, just to let them fall to their death, or die in some other fashion. Batman has, and does kill people, it is silly to suggest otherwise. People can think all they want that Batman does not use guns or kill people, but that is just nonsense.

  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:35 AM) I haven't done a lot of research, but I have to believe he already has the record for 3 true outcome totals in a season at 349 set in 2004 (46 homers, 108 BB, 195 K). He's also 2nd on that list with 346 (40 HR, 112 BB, 194 K). I have Thome in 3rd with 345 in 2001 (49 HR, 111 BB, 185 K), Bonds in 4th at 343 (73 HR, 177 BB, 93 K). Thome also has a 340 in 2003 (47 HR, 111 BB, 182 K). Without rounding up, using per game averages, and 155 games, Dunn is on pace for 403 3 true outcome plate appearances (47 HR, 122 BB, 234 K). http://www.curlybacon.com/index.php?code=8...88c6e571c725ecc
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) That is a great question. I wonder if anyone out there has figured that out. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) Jason Varitek got in with a .218 average. Haven't found lower yet. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) Luis Aparacio, hitting .208 at the break. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) Good call. In '83 Ozzie Smith was hitting .205 with a .526 OPS at the break. You guys are not really even close.

    QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) THE DICTATOR is much better than Bruno, a tick or two below the classic BORAT. Started watching "Get the Gringo," by the same person who has ATTACK THE BLOCK in their sig...it's not bad, and didn't even realize Mel Gibson had made another movie since Jodie Foster's bomb, THE BEAVER (which wasn't so horrible, just a victim of almost unfathomable real-life events conspiring against it with Gibson's public self-destruction). For something released on-demand.... i would say it is pretty darn impressive. Gutsy risk, no matter how it was distributed, in all actuality, it was well worth the experimentation.

    QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) I liked it. It was a little unsatisfying, but I thought they did a good job bringing it to closure under what I have to presume were rushed circumstances. Taking a page out of the "Dallas" and "Newhart" storybook (ie. the whole thing was just a dream) was probably their best play. Can't forget roseanne.

    QUOTE (knightni @ May 24, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Calling a celebrity little person an "imp" is like using the N word. I know the complete and utter origin of the word since the time it was used in any form of literature... or how about common usage in general. The word imp had a complete opposite meaning of what i believe you think it currently means. Much more realistic than the garbage steve spewed in the movie thread about sequals. I had an eight paragraph response typed up to respond to his juvenile response and... bam...all gone, power was out for nearly a week in my area. So those eight... will now be twelve... currently i am waiting for a cute/quipy comment from him... as usual. Yours truly, one of your biggest fans!. Congrats on the blog btw, i sleep in about two hours a day, in the form of intervals, and reading that blog of your tends to do the trick. The nausea i can deal with, though it ends up subsiding. Good day. Best of luck to you! Muah! Grown man in the little boys body, damn shame it is.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) I think it's wrong. The pitch by pitch data for the Giants ABs in that game does not exist and instead of this being recorded as N/A or blank as it is for other games the system credited the bare minimum of pitches for each outcome: 1 pitch for balls put in play and 3 for strikeouts. Fulgham himself believes it to be baloney... he believes it to be a little more than double that. He remembers a 72 or 73 pitch shutout in the minors... but that is it.
  19. As kalapse and i were talking about yesterday... john fulgham has the record for most consecutive strikes thrown. The date was august 17th, 1979... fulgham faced 29 batters, threw 39 pitches, all for strikes, recording five strikeouts... in a 3-0 complete game shutout. So this of course means he used 24 pitches (all strikes) on the other 24 batters. This would be the record.

    QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) The 1971 original version of Straw Dogs with Hoffman, or the 2011 version with Kate Bosworth? I will likely never see the remake. It's just not necessary as far as i'm concerned. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Muscle relaxers? You know, the sphincter's a muscle. Maybe he s*** his pants and let an ordinary situation get out of hand. Wouldn't be the first time. Funny you say this, truly is. I have told many people that darts story you divulged years ago.

The some can not be said for some... coughyoucough. Gospel though? Mighty kind of you to think so highly of me, but even that may be stretching it a tad. Steve you never lived up to your vow of leaving soxtalk when you vowed such if lebron james did not become a bulls player. There is zero reason you are still posting here. 24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) Right. Because it was a serious insult. It was a joke. Get over yourself. This much i seriously doubt. You throw snide insult at him, after snide insult, which is breezed past like nothing ever transpired. But anything on the internet can be played off as a joke, which is a common follow-up line to an insult. You hate j4l, there is no hiding it, the least you could do is man up to it. To say otherwise would be a bold face lie.
