  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Twice This is not true. Twice it occurred in a month and a half period (1989), which is the reason I think so many people, White Sox fans included, believe it only happened two times. Steve Lyons also got him for the third time in 1991. Ozzie Guillen is one of only two players to get caught three times. The other was a little known player named Jack Martin, who only also caught caught twice in one year, once in 1912, and twice more in 1914. Gene the Stick Michael pulled off the hidden ball trick five times. George Stovall and Frank Crosetti had pulled it off six times. While the king of them all was Bill Coughlin who did it seven times, at three different positions, including in game 2 of the 1907 World Series. Coughlin is the only player in the history of the game to pull off the hidden ball trick during a World Series.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) This isn't correct. The first part is right, it's a catch as he hadn't landed in dead ball territory. It's considered an out because he caught the ball, and didn't lose control or drop it while completing the catch. However, once he falls and lands in dead ball territory after the catch, the ball is immediately dead. Him coming out and throwing didn't make a difference. It was dead, and the base runner was awarded second base, as it's a one base award. I just got to this. Which you would be correct. For some reason I was thinking back to the dead ball era when what I described was the case for a period of time. I have been scouring over my library of books (I have over five thousand), and for the life of me I cannot find my rule book that was from the 1940's and prior. I have read multiple stories on it in the past, and it is pissing me off to no end that I can't come across it. The rule was so asinine which is why it got changed, as rules seemingly get tweaked year to year based on how outlandish some tend to be time to time. No one has yet answered my question as to how a triple play can occur without the defense ever touching ball... This is not to say is has ever happened, but it is indeed a possibility.
  3. Rated you a sucker of all cocks that will ever be on this planet earth. Yes, Chyna the former wrestler is included.

  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) Figured this thread was a good place to ask this. J.B. Shuck made this catch last night where he fell into the crowd in fair territory on a home run ball. Why is this not a home run? The ball landed over the fence, albeit in a player's glove. What's the rule on that? He was still in the field of play as he made the jump for the ball. His momentum is what took him over the wall. The reason it was considered an out is because he came out of the stands with the ball, and therefore threw it. If Shuck would have just thrown the ball from beyond the fence, a home run would have been credited, but he clearly knew the rule.
  5. Baseball Games Contain About 18 Minutes of Baseball? Roughly in that neighborhood anyway. Not bad I suppose, since as you will read in the article, Wall Street Journal has clocked football in at only 11 minutes of actual action.
  6. One of the biggest tips has got to be, to stop texting. This goes for the human race. F***ing talk to one another verbally already, enough misinterpretation happens that way as is, but it is clearly the better route of the two. Attention spans have just gotten worse as the technology gets better. Currently there is now a pill that's being worked on that if you take it, it's like you have just worked out. Naturally, the intention is for this to only be used by those that have a debilitating illness. We all know this will not end up being the case. It's weak, pathetic even. All of these shortcuts are just biting our society in the ass.
  7. At a point in this thread it was questioned as to if the times were indeed ever golden. Golden is a word that is thrown around in excess quite like the word epic. Epic once had a rather signifigant meaning until the overuse starting occuring during the time of the internet. Now, it has become nothing more than a shell of its former self. Anyway, times were once a blast around here. To me there was an abundance of different personalities at some point in time, which really made this place have a spark. For the good and bad. Really far ends of the spectrum in some cases. Maybe we were zanier? Or could it be passion drove us more? I like to think it was a little bit of both. The loss of "The Cheat" was huge for me. Since Kalapse hardly posts I no longer have anyone to mentor (for those new around the place he is supposedly the brains around these parts) so that makes me sad. Wite has not had any of those patended eight to twelve pargraph posts in years it seems. What's up with that? Greg has toned it down. I was always like fathom, though now he seems to blend in here. Years ago, he stuck out like a sore thumb, and his thoughts were much needed to balance out the homerism. Much more realistic person I believe than he was ever given credit for. The basketball thread I will always speak ill of. There are only three posters in there that consistently know what they are talking about, and two others that are generally pretty on the money. Whenever I am feeling down I go to that thread because it's like one of those movies that are so schlocky that you actually find something enjoyable despite you not wanting to. You know what I'm talking about, everyone has one. I guess things are not all that bad when I think about it. The last really exciting thing that happened to me is a few years ago JimH did call me out to fight him in person. While claming I am a drunkard piece of scum. A drunkard I am not. Creepiest thing about it is he did so on another site (chicagonow) after I mentioned him in a thread here. Apparently he had taken whatever trivial thing I said about him to heart. Hardly something worth calling a person out to a fight for in my opinion. Do the rumors hold true that he wears daisy duke type shorts along with a tank top to show his midriff at the games? I know some of you have had to bump into him over the years. Seems to me that is the only way I would have heard that was his clothing style of choice.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 06:23 AM) It depends on the trail. The Prairie Path has been around for years through rain and snow. I bet sleet is the real pain in the ass.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Only thing missing is a dick pic with Crocs FOP will make that happen, don't you worry your little heads.
  10. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 27, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) I really wish headlines like this would stop: Griner dunks twice but Mercury fall to Sky. Really? That is your lead? It's not like the first time that's ever happened. Or it is. For the WNBA. Not college.

    2013 TV Thread

She looks like a less attractive version of Jennifer Love Hewitt... maybe with a tad of Milano thrown in. Could you imagine what caulfield would end up saying about who she looks like? That is one of his favorite subjects to create tangents out of tangents and not even being remotely close in regard to facial similarities. Hell give it a go caulfield, you have turned into one of, if not my favorite poster currently. The only thing I can expect from you is your incredible ability to make a string of tangents out of seemingly nothing.
  12. Anyone else looking forward to The World's End? The last film of Edgar Wright's trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. This movie is about a bar crawl. Along with so much more. I have been waiting for this one for a couple years now. Seek it out. Caulfield have you seen Dead Man's Shoes with Paddy Considine? Lesser known to many, but he is a damn fine actor. He collaborates with Shane Meadows often... you may know of This Is England. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419677/reference
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 06:19 AM) Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz The villains were ruthless though.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 1h The career line of Mario Mendoza, considered the worst hitter ever .215/.245/.262. Through 19 games, the Marlins as a team: .212/.271/.286. Mario Mendoza is not the worst hitter ever. So irritating to consistently hear such nonsense.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 03:51 AM) You're the 4th person to say the same thing. I'm just kinda tired of Ryan Gosling. Acts the same way in everything it seems. In Lars and the Real Girl I would say he strayed from his typical mold. It is not a film for everyone it would seem, as the plot synopsis... alone is enough to make many run for the hills.
  16. How about a situation in which the defense never puts a glove/hand to the ball... yet they record three outs in an unassisted fashion?
  17. What a lousy amount of posts (44) for an opening day winner thread. What the hell is going on here?
  18. What have you been watching lately Caulfield? Tell me all the noteworthy films from the past few months... along with whatever you plan on viewing in the near future...
  19. True troll right here. http://www.imdb.com/user/ur7969168/comment...ful&start=0
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Watched 'Shame' with Michael Fassbender last night. Interesting to say the least. You should be in for a treat with Don Jon's Addiction. Don Jon's Addiction is Joseph Gordon Levitt's directorial and writing debut in a full feature length film. Similar, but oh so very different at the same time. Great accomplishment for a first time film, even though I really had little doubt in his abilities outside of acting. The man will win an Oscar at some point I have a firm belief that he will win an Oscar in the next five years or so, give or take a year either way. Levitt is currently having every huge script in Hollywood sent his way. In my opinion he is bound to run into the proper script sooner rather than later to propel his ability to an even higher level... and at the very least I think he will warrant some nominations. Triple threats are extremely scare, so he has as good of a shot, if not better than any out there. Levitt just may even end up directing himself to an acting nomination someday, he is that good. Anyone else enjoy his work? Anyone think he sucks blows? Why on both accounts?
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 06:03 AM) Personally, I would choose Argo or Life of Pi for best picture. I just don't get how Affleck got snubbed if Argo wins. Guess nobody accused the Academy of making sense. I feel pretty strong about Life of Pi being the best film of the year.
  22. Zemeckis would have been an interesting choice.
  23. The Suicide King Never thought I would have the nerve To hold it straight and never swerve All my sorrow and all my pain Covered up with one last stain A bullet lodged within my head I'll awake tomorrow to find I'm dead ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With one last thought about my lot I grabbed the thick part of the knot I looped the loop around my neck The end was near for my lifelong wreck Off the bridge, into the gap My pain is over with a final snap ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sick to death of being depressed I slip into the tub, still dressed The toaster sinking like a rock It's still plugged in, I feel the shock One last thought before I'm dead If I'm the toast, I've saved some bread ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All of Life's joys that I have missed The pretty girls I never kissed In the drawer I find the knife To bleed the blood to leave this life Two clean cuts across my wrist A suicidal injunction: Deceased; I insist ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The time has come, I'm here at last The gates are down, I move in fast Train is on time, it's never been late I settle in, accept my fate The car is crushed, I wrecked the train For once, at last, I feel no pain ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A sealed garage is very vital I start the car and let it idle Slide over so the horn won't beep When I fall so deep asleep Poison stealing my very breath With peace at last, I'll sleep to death ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From far below, I start my trek To reach the observation deck I'll make my jump from way up high Yet falling down, I will not die It is not the fall that kills, my friend... But the sudden stop, at the very end
  24. I have only had a thousand or so posts in the past 5 years roughly. Posted a bunch when the going was great. We always seem to refer to a golden time... is this a case of mass hysteria going on... or did such actually happen?
