QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) That's not what you said. You made it sound like Kotsay is all he could be. Don't go back on that. Yes, i personally think he will be that type of player. But i never said that is the best player he can be.

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) If the sox don't sign anyone else and have Willie as the 2B, I GUARANTEE by the end of year, that Willie will be leading-off and S-Pod will be hitting 9th. I do expect though, S-Pod to have a decent year as well. I am sure by the end of the year willie will be batting lead-off too. When podsednik is getting a day off to rest.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) It's my favorite move of offseason so far. I hope he's not a cancer and has a good year. I think we needed a decent bat at catcher. With him and Burke we should be decent at catcher. I would think Big Ben is a goner now. No, burke will be the one to go. I do wish it was the opposite way around though.
-
I did not mean to sound like that is all he will ever be. Even if he is just as good as kotsay, that is nothing to be ashamed of. I only wish the best for him but what is done is done and i am not gonna cry about it.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) How much $$$ would Larkin be looking for? Million? Probally less. He wants to start, if not he will probally retire.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) i believe that catchers dont add wins, if they did why were the pirates so horrible with jason kendall, aj brings power and a lefty bat and that should improve us Pirates suck, that may be why. I am willing to bet that the team era will be at least .25 lower now that we have pierz rather than if we had ben davis starting. I actually think with pierz our era could be up to .50 lower.

QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Everyone, please calm down. Kenny still has three more moves to be made: 1) Sign Iguchi 2) Sign Rob Nenn to a minor league contract 3) Trade Garland, Burke and Brian Anderson for Vazquez Only then Kenny will be done with this offseason. Heck, even without the above signings and trade, I still bow to Kenny. Iguchi yes, no one else has heard anything else about nenn, not saying he is lying just saying no one else heard anything about it. Trade Garland, Burke and Brian Anderson for Vazquez? Icky.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) still need an infielder Even if we do not get a middle infielder ( which i feel we will) the four players got by trading lee is way better than just keeping lee.

Most Improved Player In The NBA
qwerty replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I think that in order to qualify for Most Improved Player, you would have to pretty much emerge from mediocrity, or worse. While guys like Wade, Lebron, and Antawn are better than they were last year, they're not that much better. When Lafrentz is healthy, he always puts up numbers. Gooden, at least to me, is a lackluster player & I don't take his rebounding average seriously (cherrypickin' like Fortson). He's just a beter version of Marcus Fizer, IMO. He's notoriously lazy. There was already a lot of hype surrounding Josh Howard coming into the season. I don't think that many people are surprised by what he has done in increased minutes. Jaric is a good call. Wade has improved as much if not more than any player in the nba. His jump in points per game and assists is excellent. He also shoots at a very good percentage. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) I wonder how much he would have improved this season, if the Heat still had the same roster as last season. LeBron is still a better all round player though, and all of his stats have pretty much increased. 24.3 points, 7.2 assists, 7 rebounds, 2.4 steals is pretty much insane. He is the better all around player, but barely. No one expected him to be putting up the numbers he is this early into his professional career if ever. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) LeBron James anyone? Dwayne wade. -
QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) I really like this move. We needed the extra bat. Hopefully Iguchi is next. Honestly, I don't know much about him, but someone told me he batted like .330 with 20 hr. That should transfer well enough. Also, does he bat left or right? Right handed.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) With Cora you know what your getting; he's a vet. We still have no idea what we have in Willie Harris and add to that the fact that Willie has rubbed many important members of the Sox organization the wrong way. 19 stolen bases in 04'!? Eh', you all know how I feel about Willie. So long Willie, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Do we really know what we are gonna get from cora? His numbers jump up and down so much year to year. This is encouraging, he hit just .212 from July 25 on.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Sorry for the triple post ... server issues? Qwerty ... what you don't seem to be getting is White Sox management appears to have a problem w/ Harris. First they tried to sign Vizquel and Uribe would've played a lot of 2b. Now they're talking to Iguchi. Cora has also been mentioned. Forget about cheaper versions of players for a second. The issue is, they have a beef with Harris. When you have Dave Wills ripping into Harris, that tells you something. They just signed AJ Pierzynski, does that sound like they want guys on the team who are timid, scared? No they don't. Guillen by all accounts is not a fan of Harris. They are looking at other second basemen. It all fits. I had three or four of the same post too then they would not delete for me. Still does not make sense. If they are not a fan of willie why are they a fan of cora's? Just because of his brother?
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Hmmm ... If they only sign Iguchi which I feel is a better than 50/50 proposition, they may hang onto Harris. That all depends on something we do not know ... if Iguchi can or will play SS. We don't know if his shoulder prevents him from doing so. If they do what I think they might do ... sign both Iguchi and Alex Cora, then Harris goes. I am not so certain they don't have the $$ to sign both. We are all assuming they don't but remember they haven't started paying players yet. Things change in spring training. Concur with you about not wanting to get into the Willie discussion, it's been beaten to death, I'm as guilty as anyone. If they cannot get Iguchi on the dotted line, and think Alex Cora fits better ... then Willie goes bye bye. I read an article i think two summers ago now that iguchi will never play short stop again. Unless if there is an injury in the game and he is the only other player capable of it. Something to that affect. I still do nto understand why anyone wants a more expensive willie harris in cora.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) you bet I completely agree. two more players will be added and hopefully Harris gone. Just my opinion, Not trying to even start a conversation with all the Willie ass kissers out there. If they sign ignuchi willie will be traded or reassigned. Isn't the reason for getting another infielder to add depth? I do not see us getting rid of willie if we sign an infielder.
-
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Alex Escobar? Haven't seen his name in winter ball stats. He might be still hurt enough to get through. Will not hurt my feelings much. I do not see him panning out into much of a player.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) What the hell are you talking about? I'm not talking about the starts in a season as inconsistant. Were talking about results in the season. Don't jump in to any convos if you didn't read the whole thread to begin with qwerty. But like I said I'm not gonna fight it. It's a agree to disagree basis and I'm sure not all of us will agree on everything. I was referring to what sox-r-us said. I quoted you on accident and i did read the whole thread. It was just an accident.
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) Wrong again The Cell has only become Coors junior last year after the renovations. It was not Coors junior before then. And Girlie has had much better run support throughout his pitching career then Garcia, and still he has had similar win/loss over the last 4 years Garcia's run support last year in Seattle was just brutal. He was 2-8 despite being top 5 in league in ERA during his Sea stint. Even if buehrle was pitching in a middle of the road park his numbers would be more impressive than garcia's since he pitched in the best pitchers park there is. Calling buehrle girlie is an asinine thing to say.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) So Buehrle would also be inconsistant right? Why does he not realize nearly every single pitcher has a hand full of awful starts a year. Buehrle is not any different. I would like him to compose a list of better pitchers then buehrle over the last four years. Then laugh when he realizes there are not many on the list.

Most improved? Yes. Comeback player of the year? No.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) 100% is tops. He is making $2.25 million this year which means he can't make more than $4.5 in arbit if we chose not to negotiate with him. The how can byung-hyun kim go from $762,500 in 2002 to $3,250,000 in 2003? That is a 326% raise. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Damn that makes this a pretty sweet signing. That means even if he has an awesome year, the most we HAVE to pay him is $4.5 million. Why is that? Players can get bigger raises in arbitration than the 20% or 25 %, I think i have heard you say before, i know someone said it. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) Don't worry, I've still got a few things planned, mainly centered around Jeremy Reed. In regards to this signing, I would like to see Davis traded now so that Burke can be kept on the roster to catch Buehrle. I think we would have to pay a team to take davis.
