Favorite Current Sox Player
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) It's harder to find a 25 year old shortstop who can bat .285 and hit you 25 homeruns that also has the potential to be a gold glove shortstop. If aaron hits the way he did last year he'll be locked up midseason. That may be true, but i believe he should have been signed during the year or next off-season.

Reed
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) It wasn't the fact that he can't be great as much as the fact that people are labeling a player they have never seen play. I have seen him play about 7-8 games when he was up with the mariners.

Two Hole Options
Pierz's footspeed is not even what bothers me about him batting in the two hole . He would not be the first slow guy to bat second. The thing that bothers me is his low obp. If he could get his obp up into the .350 range he would be an excellent chose because of how well he puts the ball into play. But i do not see him suddenly taking fifty walks in a season so i do not see him batting second for us.

Well that summed that up quite well.

Wilson Valdez
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) IMO, start him in triple-a and when Harris fails, we can bring Valdez up to play. I would like to get him some AB's and not have him sit on the bench. I like how you say when he fails, not if he fails.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) It's even worse than that; Sucks to be a dogers fan. Just because he was great in the post season means nothing. I mean wtf, his era in the regular season was nearly 5.5. Contracts in the mlb blow.

Rumors thread
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Did you guys hear the deal Green turned down? A 2 year extension worth 9-10 million a year. He is demanding 12 mill per year supposedly. He is far from worth it at this point.

Pierzynski to be on AM 1000
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) AJ was also on the Score at about 4:40, and he said something I haven't heard before. He will still be arbitration eligible after the 2005 season, so if the Sox like him, he can't go anywhere as a free agent. Also, a beat reporter from SF is on the Score now, and he's saying he didn't put much stock in the rumors about AJ's bad attitude. He criticized AJ for not taking walks, hitting into DPs, and said AJ was poor defensively - blocking balls in particularly. What is this f***ing writer thinking? He is one of the very best at blocking balls in the dirt in all of baseball. Also, why does it say cwsguy406 started this thread when he did not post until like the ninth post? Error i take it.

Pierzynski to be on AM 1000
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Will we lead the league in DPs with Frank, Paulie and AJ???? No, kinda hard to stay out of them when bonds gets on at a ridiculous pace.

Score just reported Sox sign AJ
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) If Davis out hits AJ & manages a better starters era & W-L record than AJ in ST are you saying he still has no chance of starting? The CWS has been dividing up the AB's amongst it's C's for years. Do you think that's going to change because of AJ? As for the 50%, I meant that if beats AJ out in ST w both the bat & starters era I think he has a 50% chance to get the lead. Now as to him accomplishing that in ST it probably drops to 10%. I definitely think he has a chance albeit slim. As to your take on Davis' worth remember that KW felt good enough about him to start the season w him. Hermannson talked KW in looking at AJ. So I think KW is still high on Davis even w AJ. I honestly do not think if pierz hits .051 in spring training and davis hits .321 that he will get the starting job. Also how many games do you thik pierz will start next year if he does not get injured? I think low side 100, high side 120-125.

Jaime Burke News
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I like Burke. I wish him luck where ever he plays next year. That being said, I feel he is a walking reminder of the Hunter incident. It's not fair to him, but everytime he comes up, I remember the play that seemed to suck the life out of the Sox last year. I think that if he goes, this may be part of the reason. Another reason might be we lost our two best hitters and the pitching on the entire staff imploded.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I'm scratching my head here. Couldn't we have just moved a minor leaguer who had options off the roster? Like who?

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Out of the Burke/Davis duo...I would have kept Burke. You know, I've always thought Burke was a journeyman, but he really did hit well in 2 seasons with the Sox over 128 at bats. Not the biggest sample size ever, but the guy showed a decent stick. But Davis is owed $1 million and was a 2nd round draft pick... so he'll stay. I'd like to see the Nationals pick up Burke to back up Schneider. You mean he was the second pick of the first round.

QUOTE(traydragen @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) lol Did you guys here this Joey kid...Typical Cubs fan. :banghead What did he say?- Score just reported Sox sign AJ
There really is no doubt that pierz will be our starting catcher to start the year unless he gets injured.- Looking ahead....
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) I think the Giants could fall apart so I will go WAY out on a limb and predict that we enter the Jason Schmidt sweepstakes. Just a fun guess. As long as bonds is healthy they will contend. If he goes down they will probally lose a hundred games.- Big Frank Getting Some Love
I was reading the main board of espn ( first time in years) and this twin fan had this to say and i laughed. ''White Sox blow and will finish 4th in the Central. They have no starting pitching other then Buehrle, they have no bullpen besides Takatsu, and other then Konerko and Thomas (if healthy), their lineup blows. ''- Looking ahead....
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I think Crede will have a good year this year. I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but I just think he'll be fine. What if he has another year like last year. What would you do with him?- Looking ahead....
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Joe Randa, there you go I've said it. A lot of people think around here think Crede can produce next season, or at least improve, I'm not one of them. He's a notorious slow satrter, and if he doesn't get off to a fast start, a stopgap solution will be found, and Josh Fields will take over in 2006. I mentioned randa at the beginning of free agency and was told he is not that big of upgrade over crede. But i think for only two million dollars he was a much better option. I know everyone wants to give crede another year or two but i honestly do not think he is gonna succeed here.- Flying Under The Radar
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) What the f***? That is amazing. I was watching that game and wondering the whole time when he was gonna hit a shot.- Reed
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) That's not what you said. You made it sound like Kotsay is all he could be. Don't go back on that. Yes, i personally think he will be that type of player. But i never said that is the best player he can be. - White Sox Talk
