payroll doesn't matter?
I agree, it can happen, has happened, and will happen again.

Didn't he have three DECENT years with the brewers? I think he did.

He was suppose to make 1.3 with his option.

Politte signs new contract with sox.
Cliff Politte - R - White Sox White Sox signed RHP Cliff Politte to a one-year, $1 million contract with an option for 2006. The White Sox had indicated they'd pick up Politte's option, but this is better. No one else was going to pay Politte $1.3 million after a second straight disappointing season, so there was no reason for the White Sox to do so. Instead, he'll get $900,000 in 2005 and the White Sox will hold a $1.2 million option for 2006 with a $100,000 buyout. Politte had a 4.38 ERA in 54 relief appearances this year before undergoing an appendectomy on Sept. 1. Oct. 4 - 3:17 pm et From rotoworld. There is a thread that says his option was picked up but it actually wasn't so that is why i made this thread.

Southsider's Final season player grades
My main thing is belliard while not great was more proven than willie. I would have expected at least a .270-.275 average for the sole fact that he would be able to feast on alot of s***ty pitching. Being the tigers, royals, indians and even the sox. To start the year i would have batted him 8th or 9th. There is no way in hell i would have wanted him to bat lead-off or even second until he proved that he was capable of that task. Willie imo should be hitting ninth next year because he is yet to learn how to bunt let alone bunt for a hit. Also he always looks scared to steal a base and has pretty s***t jumps.

Contreras's 6.20 since being here does not justify a c imo.

NL Cy Young Vote
I thought it was really cool to not have the names. Because most people just pick a winner because of their name and not their actual stats.

Southsider's Final season player grades
We knew what we would get from him more so than willie. For some reason willie's sub .300 obp to start the year did not exite me.

Southsider's Final season player grades
Problem is we should have not had to count on willie harris to be our starting second baseman that was leading off. That is kw's fault, i mean come on we couldn't sign belliard.

Off the Team
I wouldn't say it is a 100% he won't be back because if that was the case he would not have pitched in saturdays game. They would have let him sit there and rot.
-
NL Cy Young Vote
He either got really lucky this year or pitched really well when people were on base. Because this year he walked a major league high this year 119 which resulted in his disgusting whip of 1.50

White Sox Relievers
Well buehrle and garland are are 1st and 6th. If you combine contreras and loaiza's innings pitched with the sox this year they would be 19th. Then if you combine garcia's and schoeneweis's innings pitched this year for the sox they would rank 14th. No team has more than two pitchers within the top 20 of innings pitched and we have 4. So i would say if we add in all the s***ty starts from our fifth starts we should still be 1st.

NL Cy Young Vote
I probally shouldn't have said davis should be on the list but i am sure he will get 1 or 2 votes out of the real cy young voting.

NL Cy Young Vote
I know i am part of that group because the pitcher honestly can't do anything about what the offense does. He can only go out there and pitch and hope for the best offensive output possible.

Off-season.
I think this came off the wrong way. I thought we could have a thread that had all trades, pick-ups, and declined options into one thread so that it would be easier for every one to see. I was not saying for us to pick either of these guys at all Maybe this thread can be used later in the year when the hot stove officially begins.
- Happy B-Day Killa!!!

NL Cy Young Vote
The way you have it is the way it should be in my opinion. I agree that peavy needs to be on the list even probally within the top 3-5. Also Doug davis was just as good as E era wise but did not have the run support to back him up.

Off-season.
Even though it is not technically the off-season i thought we could start one big thread on all the off-season trades, pick-ups, trade ideas, declined options, etc. I feel that this is the right place for it to go since alot more people will see it here than anywhere else. If there is anyway this can be pinned it would be appreciated. Anyways i will start it off with this. From rotoworld. Joe Randa - 3B - Royals Royals declined third baseman Joe Randa's $3.25 million option for 2005. Randa receives a $500,000 buyout. His performance this year was about in line with his career averages, so he should be able to get close to $3 million from some team in 2005. The Royals could try to re-sign him for $2 million or so. Oct. 3 - 8:09 pm et Juan Gonzalez - OF - Royals Royals declined outfielder Juan Gonzalez's $7 million option for 2005. Come on, Allard. Couldn't you have until Tuesday or Wednesday for this stuff? It's been a long day for us. Declining Gonzalez's option was the no-brainer of the Royals offseason. Some team will sign him to play regularly in 2005, but he's not going to make much money. He'd be a better investment as a DH than as a right fielder, and the team that gambles on him better make certain it has a solid backup ready to step in. Oct. 3 - 8:13 pm et

What the A's and Cubs Have Taught Me...
I agree 100%. Like i said earlier in the thread if the expos had any offense watch out. They have one of the best bull pens in baseball and they all are very young. Their starting pitching is also capable of being pretty damn good when not all injured. But their offense on the other hand. :puke

What the A's and Cubs Have Taught Me...
Now that you mentioned it he probally was the biggest disappointment. But we can't honestly expect him to have his era in the mid 1's or even low 2's. I know what his problem is. His his control sucked which resulted in all the homeruns he gave up (10). In the previous two season he only gave up a total of 8.

What the A's and Cubs Have Taught Me...
I believe he is right up there with hawkins as one of the lowest save percentages for a minimum 50 chances.

Corky Sosa
Sosa is not that stupid he would like to keep the few fans he has left i am sure.

What the A's and Cubs Have Taught Me...
You get sporting new? Because in one issue that said he was the third best reliever in all of baseball behind mota and farnsworth of all people. In another issue the numbers they predicted for him were 79 innings, 12 saves, 6 blown saves, 2.27 era, 1.18 whip, and 90 strikeouts on the season. What they said about him is this. With a fastball in the mid 90's and pinpoint location, Marte has emerged as one o fthe top relievers in baseball. He saved double-digit games for the second consecutive season and limited opponents to a .185 average. Bottom line. A top set-up option, and he will get a shot at closing.
