QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) 1) You can't stop saying trade Viciedo. At no time have you mentioned he's a pretty decent looking young player. Nice try. 2) They had been rumored to be giving up Floyd at one point, Thornton, Crain, actually on the day of the deal. Boston wanted Parra and AZ to eat a lot more money than KW actually paid. No hedge on my part at all. 3)Adam Dun in LF full time? LMAO 4)I can read your posts. You are obviously a very unhappy individual. 1.) I compared Viciedo to Nelson Cruz or Carlos Lee. Pretty decent players. 2.) You think Youlilis is washed up. Just stand by it, it's an opportunity for you to be right. 3.) If that was part of the price of getting a top-of-the-rotion starter, why not? 4.) You need to get out amongst the public more often if you are comfortable making that judgement based on message board posts. Turn off your PC, Dick.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Also don't like the steal attempt with so many guys who get on base well behind you. Good odds of getting into scoring position other ways Right. Dunn is not a good candidate to single a runner home.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Didn't like that steal attempt after having almost been picked off the step before. Don't like stealing early in a game in that park. It's likely to take 5+ runs to win today.

De Aza deserves to be on the All-Star team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) D2 might be a tolerable backup OF. He's a 26 year old who spent 2.5 years in AAA after being drafted out of college. He's part of this rookie class that has the Sox in front by 3 games on June 30th though.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) It's so easy to find a power hitting LF that the team with the $200 million payroll has DeWayne Wise in LF. Trumpeting 9 rookies. It's folly not to think Jordan Danks could step in and be a suitable replacement for Viciedo.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) Yes, but they gave up crap to get him and are paying him peanuts. I don't have a problem with no risk moves, especially when your other best option is the ODog. Youkilis could break down today. I was terrified the White Sox were actually going to give up something useful to get him. His back is a question mark, his hand was in ice after his first game with the White Sox. He's sick to his stomach. Chances are Youk isn't going to be the answer. I hope he is, but as I stated before, its very rare another team is paying a player more money to play for his current team, than his current team and that player turns out to be a difference maker. You have said Viciedo is overrated. Slugging LFs are easy to find. Of course when asked to name a few who were easily available, you were uncharacteristically silent. The Sox are in first place. Why don't you enjoy it? Every post is a whine. 1.) Saying Viciedo is overrated (particularly on SoxTalk) isn't the same as saying he sucks. 2.) The Sox were never rumored to "give up too much" for Youkilis. Nice hedge on your part. 3.) Where could the Sox find a slugging LF'er? Really difficult to say .... Oh wait, Adam Dunn played LF as recently as 3 weeks ago. 4.) Every post a whine? Not enjoying the Sox in first place? Why do you feel the need to pass that kind of judgement based on postings on a message board?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) You also said that there wasn't anyone good in our farm system, and Kenny should be fired for it. Yet that system has us in first place. I said KW should have been gone with Guillen at the end of last year. If they don't win or at the very least contend this year, he should be gone too. It's terrific we are in 1st place on June 30th.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) Don't forget...we also go into this offseason with >$15 million to spend just to get back to this year's payroll. Re-upping Peavy or AJ or Youk would take up chunks of that...but with this many rookies contributing, there's going to be plenty of money to fill that 3b hole if we want to spend there. What about MOREL?? We just HAVE to continue his development, right?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) Let me guess, you do this by trading Viciedo, because unlike the rest of Soxtalk and every GM in baseball, you understand that Viciedo really sucks. He's easily replaceable by Dan Johnson or someone of his ilk. Where did I write that Viciedo sucks? OTOH, you have gone on record as saying Youkillis is washed up. Maybe you're right.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Its all about percieved value. KW builds it up through half seasons of success, he has done that for a long time. I just don't see getting anything of consequence for Walker or Thompson. Given the Sox having the worst system in MLB, any team can beat that offer.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) I've said that about Paul Konerko the last 3-4 years. I'm now willing to place funds on him proving you wrong. A .976 ops for Konerko on June 30, 2013? That's a bet I will take.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) The vast majority of the bullpen, including the closer, is rookies, as are two starting pitchers. And relievers are notoriously year-to-year performers. I like Reed beyond this year, but I'm going to wait on Jones and Santiago.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) Whether we trade Mitchell or anyone else this year, we won't be "mortgaging the future" for immediate returns. And we don't need to. I don't think you can pencil in seasons like this next year from Sale, Peavy, Konerko, and AJ. The Sox have to take advantage of this year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) And we have a roster with 9 rookies on it, on a team that is 3.5 games in first place. No rookies in the starting lineup. They've made use of their Minor League system and for that they deserve credit.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) As much as you hate KW, even you have to admit that he has gotten excellent value for the minor league players he has traded away in the past. He is very good at boosting their percieved value during the season and then shipping them off. Clayton Richard is a very good example of that, Poreda as well. The difference between those guys and Walker and Thompson is Richard had *some* success as a starter when he was traded and Poreda put up good numbers in the minors. Walker and Thompson haven't had near the success of those two.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) As for Thompson & Walker, I don't see either of them challenging for major league jobs before 2015 at the earliest. Honestly, if Mitchell pans out, we most likely won't even have an opening in our OF until 2016. By then Hawkins might be a serious prospect and we won't want to commit to any other young OFs until he is ready. I see both Thompson & Walker being trade bait in the not too distant future. Trade bait for what?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) Mitchell would be trade bait if I were the GM. Football players are almost always behind in developing anyway and missing a year hurts that. If Hawkins develops like the Sox think, Mitchell is more than expendable. I would definitely consider trading him for something that gets the Sox into the playoffs. Good Luck getting a difference maker for Mitchell. You're either All In or not at this point.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) Great. I think the White Sox have a good shot at adding John Danks and Philip Humber to their rotation by the trade deadline. Too much of a gamble.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) How is our rotation in that bad of shape? We've got three starters dominating and Floyd looks like he's about to go on a run. If we get Danks back healthy, we're in damn good shape. It may not last, but we only have one guy at the moment who's a significant concern IMO. It may not last? I think it won't last, needs bolstering.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Dude, where do you come up with this stuff. Just because you keep saying something over and over doesn't make it a fact. Also, I find it laughable that you propose trades that are similar to the ones that you want KW fired for. Pick one side of the fence and stick to it. At least when you wanted to trade Viciedo for young pitching, it didn't conflict with the "all in" strategy that you used to rip KW for and have now decided to endorse. No conflict at all. With or without Viciedo there's not a lot to build around after this year, dude.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) If sports opportunities were about who "deserved" what, the sports landscape would be much different. As it stands, the "undeserving" Axelrod got a shot because we have two SP's on the DL. If we have two 1B's on the DL, Dan Johnson probably WILL get called up. Our bench is in as bad a shape as our rotation. Why not give Johnson a chance?
-
Johnson is more deserving of an opportunity than Axelrod. He should replace Hudson at least.
-
June hasn't been kind to Viciedo (.162/.230/.250). If it weren't for the fact that the Sox are trying to keep his trade value up, he'd be in a platoon by now.

Someone who can give them innings over the next 7 games.
