QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) I hope you aren't suggesting trading all three of those guys. No.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) I said this the other day, but if the Brewers trade Greinke, it seems very unlikely they'd want the main prize coming back for him being a corner hitting outfielder. It's difficult to figure the trade market for Greinke given his anxiety disorder and the big clubs probably staying away from him for that reason. If they don't want Viciedo, Quintana and Molina? I think the Sox could put together a combination that would interest Milwaukee.
-
Of the starters that may be available Greinke's the only one I'd deal Viciedo for.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) But your second graf there makes no sense to me. You want to trade Viciedo for SP, and have Johnson start? See my earlier post, Johnson is not a major league starter, not to mention Viciedo is just starting to come into his own, is already better and would be a lot better, and is cheap going forward. SP needs a legit upgrade to become a World Series contender. Johnson may be able to be part of a decent replacement platoon.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) You can't project that way for someone like this. This isn't a prospect who is in his first try at AAA, at age 22-25, putting up those numbers. This is a 32 year old playing is EIGTH season in AAA. He's also played 399 games in the majors, he hasn't hit above .200 there in three seasons since 2007, and has only hit above .236 once, in 2005. Trying to take his AAA stats and project them is just meaningless at this point. Johnson is insurance on Konerko and Dunn, as he should be. Why keep Hudson over Johnson? They're going to have to upgrade the SP if they want to win this thing and Viciedo would be a candidate to go. Let's see what Johnson can do in the meantime to give the lineup some added depth.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:38 AM) at the same time, we already have 3 players that can play 1st, why do we need another? Im not really comfortable platooning Johnson at 3rd and maybe the outfield One thing we don't have on the bench is a hitter. Maybe Johnson is a AAAA hitter having a career year? That's worth a spot on the bench just to find out.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) Dan Johnson doesn't strike me as much of a backup 2b. How many backup 2b's do you need?
-
Dan Johnson should be on this roster based on his performance so far at Charlotte. No need for Hudson.

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) anyone feel that throton wanted to be gone this year? Yep since Ventura didn't give him the opportunity to close.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Better Matty than a young arm, I suppose. Neutral move for the future, risky move for the present. Can't deny I'm happy to see the end of Thornton n a White Sox uniform replacement be damned. #mentalmidget

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) I just dont believe finding a LFer is easy as you think it is, thats all. I like Danks, but I am certainly not ready for that. And knowing that Lillibridge is waiting behind him bothers me They played Dunn in LF in the NL parks. Heck, Dan Johnson is killing the ball at Charlotte, he absolutely deserves a chance with the way the offense has been performing. Conor Jackson too.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) You're determined to rid the organization of him. All in the name of winning a World Series.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) If you make a huge trade with guys like Viciedo, it better be for someone that will be with the organization for a few years. It would be nice, but it doesn't have to be a prerequisite.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) The f***?! Did Dayan run over your cat or something? You seriously have a vendetta against him. You overvalue him.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) Impossible to tell either way. Trading for Greinke strengthens an already good rotation, but creates a hole in an already questionable lineup. A hole that can be patched with Youk at third. Finding a LF'er would be a small additional cost to pay for acquiring Greinke. Greinke makes the rotation a potential championship one, imo.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) I think trading Viciedo for Greinke would be pretty short sighted at this point. KW has to see what Viciedo can do through a season before he goes and trades him for a rental starter. Greinke might get you a World Series. Next 5 years of Viciedo they might not win a division.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Pretty good. They are currently a half game out of first with their opening day starter on the DL, their #4 guy really struggling and their #5 guy stinking up the joint. Pretty good doesn't cut it.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) If Grienke had a couple years left on his contract, I could see it, but trading Viciedo for 2 months of Grienke is the type of move that gets your team very bad for a very long time. How good do they project to be with Viciedo? Oddly, the Sox are in the same trading position as teams with full farm systems. They can give up a Viciedo and it won't make a difference.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) So you cite two of KW's worst and most short-sighted moves as support for trading Viciedo for 3 months of Greinke. That makes no sense. Also, not defending the Jackson deal, but he was under control for an extra season, so the Sox had the opportunity to recoup some of the cost that next deadline or would at least be eligible for draft pick compensation if they held on to him. You're only guaranteed 3 months of Greinke if you trade for him. If you don't win the World Series, you risk losing 5 years of Viciedo for nothing. I'd rather wait until the offseason, use the Peavy money towards a Greinke offer and keep Viciedo at the same time. The best chance the Sox would have to sign Greinke is if they went deep into the playoffs. Best chance for them to go deep into the playoffs is to trade for Greinke. Over Viciedo's next five years, will the Sox have a better chance to win a World Series than they do this year? Given the age on this team and the worst farm system in baseball I don't see how you can answer that "yes."
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) Who would replace Viciedo? The kid has shown some flashes of being a real good player, but I might agree a Grienke, if signed to a long term commitment with the Sox would be ok with me. Maybe Jordan Danks can play in LF, or we go after Quentin and get him back from SD. Youk replaces Hudson. Danks and you're right, you can find a LF'er like Quentin or someone of lesser stature.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) I'd rather pay handsomely for a third baseman than a starting pitcher. How many aces do you need? A Greinke-type trade gives you three plus Danks who is a damn solid 2, plus Floyd who has pitched like a nice 2 before and could certainly make himself into the best 5 in baseball. And I'm not even mentioning lights out Quintana. You need as many aces as you can get because sometimes aces don't pitch like aces. If they do pitch like aces the Sox are World Series contenders. Of course it's a gamble, but if you can trade Daniel Hudson (and Holmberg) for Jackson and Gonzalez for Swisher, you certainly can trade Viciedo for Greinke.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) NO. They're not trading Viciedo. You're the only person who wants to trade Viciedo. You wouldn't deal Viciedo for Greinke with Sale and Peavy pitching the way they are this year? That top 3 could win you a World Series.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) If Greinke magically made his way here this season, the top 3 would be absolutely filthy. Then you have a mix of Humber, Quintana, Floyd and Danks rounding it out. That would be something else I think it's worth Viciedo, no?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) I don't know how it would work out withe AJP, but Greinke is a guy the Sox should think about if the Brewers make him available. They should be able to hang with the other offers Miwaukee would receive considering its theoretically a 2 or 3 month rental. If he doesn't re-sign in Milwaukee, I wouldn't be surprised he's a White Sox target during the offseason, especially since it appears the Yankees and maybe the Red Sox will be out of that discussion. I'd target Greinke too since it's likely the biggest spenders won't. A top 3 of Sale, Greinke, and Danks pitching at or near their potential just about guarantees contention in the AL Central at the very least.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) If Danks comes back healthy, and Humber returns healthy and his struggles were related to his elbow, the rotation is easily good enough to win the Central. Without these 2 and Floyd pitching like he belongs in A ball most of the year, they are 1/2 game out. Who knows how long it will be again until the Sox have two starters pitching like Sale and Peavy at the top of the rotation. They need to maximize this, problem is they probably won't have enough to trade for the best starter on the market, whoever that will be.
