  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 31, 2012 -> 11:27 AM) I know you keep saying that it's great that Viciedo is proving you wrong, and it is, but next time maybe don't about a player so quickly, especially one as talented as Viciedo. It's just annoying to hear someone pull this schtick because it's just an escape clause to for being wrong. Interesting how you post about not jumping to conclusions. Viciedo has proven me wrong for 2 months of the season.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) Because you aren't...there are plenty of people on here thinking the Sox would contend... Not in Jan/Feb ....
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Oh, "Marty", this thread title is just hanging you out to dry everytime it gets bumped. *bump I love it. I hope there are posts proving me wrong for years. By the same token, I'm curious as to why I get no props for being the first one on here to say the Sox should contend. Posters on here had the Sox losing 90+ games in Jan/Feb.
  4. 1 playoff appearance in 6 years, Kenny. Fix that instead of commenting on attendance.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 28, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) We had nothing coming through the system the past few years, yet produced this trio. That is true, but the last three years at the big league level yielded no post-season appearances. We could have used some help.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) Just like the last few years. Explain.
  7. They better be because there isn't much following them.
  8. I break out a new dance move with every Viciedo hit, I absolutely love being wrong.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) And they are drawing 20% less than when no one went last year. You're right. The White Sox do not have money to make a move at the trade deadline.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Attendance also hasn't been an issue before. This is the lowest attendance since 1998. The last time the payroll was in this area, we were drawing 8000 more people per night, or about 650000 more twirls of the turnstiles over the course of the season. It makes a big difference. According to Forbes they turned a profit last year (when no one went the 2nd half.) They cut roughly $30M off the payroll. They have money to make a move.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) And if we have a stretch like that, I am sure attendance will respond accordingly. Right now we are running about 20% behind last year. This has budgeted for, no surprises. They have money to make trade deadline moves. Short-term money is never an issue for this team if it can make a post-season run.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) What was our attendance spike in 2010 during and after the 26-5 run? Did that make bringing in Manny Ramirez largely possible, or was the money already there in reserve? Let's say we jump from 20K to a 22K average over the next 2 months. Is that enough to justify an acquisition that adds significant salary ($7.5 million and above)? My guy told me that the 26-5 stretch was huge for ticket sales in 2010.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) I think you mean REVELLED. Although sometimes you can be reviled when you are deliberately obtuse or obfuscating your true nature here, lol. True, true. Was a long pre-birthday celebration that started on 35th yesterday. Words aren't my things this morning.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) Unless attendance goes crazy here in the next two months, there are no moves to be made. Orlando Hudson is your move, unless it is a guy who is in the minors. Wrong. Short-term money is never an issue with trade deadline moves with this team.
  15. My sense is we're in this thing (worst case within 5 games) by the trade deadline, time to think about adding.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) Clearly, KW really messed up and didn't trade Viciedo a month ago like Marty knew he should. Now, he has no value. T?he crazy thing about this Dick is nobody has reviled in his recent success more than me. I hope he proves me wrong all the way to Vlad Guerrero.
  17. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 25, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) The city isn't paying them the OT. just giving them free Sox tickets. WOOOOO This is the kind of thing that gives the police a bad wrap, imo. They get paid a good wage to do a job thy chose, yet in my dealings with them there is a small portion of the force that feel entitled to freebees for doing their jobs instead of just being grateful when they are offered. I guess they're just reflective of society these days.
  18. Look at the Sox attendance historically and they've never drawn in April/May when they weren't very good the season before. Unfortunately for them most of their choice home games are early in the season which is one of the reasons I'm sure they had such a drastic payroll cut. As far as attendance goes, this year is all about shoring up and growing the season ticket base some in what remains a very tough economic climate.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) (And De Aza's has been shooting up the last couple weeks, after it became clear that he couldn't hit left handers because stuff). Where's he going to play next year when the Sox sign Hamilton per your plan?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) The wind usually is doing the opposite at the lower levels because of the swirling action. Yep. Best way to judge the wind is by looking at the wind guage in the Sox pen. Last night it was pointed straight out to left while the flags were pointing straight in.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) I can go with that. You need success from 4/5 of them or else, like I said, or someone has to appear out of thin air quickly. I appreciate the understanding of my view. Somehow it gets spun in to having an agenda or an axe to grind.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) We basically have to wait to know if these players are going to pan out. There are encouraging signs and less encouraging signs. I'm not a KW lifer, but I like the philosophy of stockpiling young arms and buying low on many of them. Since he's been given the keys to the car, I'm going to take a wait and see approach for now -- why call for his firing now? Because the rebuilding team isn't winning? Winning too much? Nothing to do but wait and hope that the team remains fairly fun to watch My view is the most important pieces to this rebuild are on the roster currently and if they don't produce there's nothing on the farm for awhile. If KW is right about Sale, Danks, Viciedo, Reed, and Beckham we win the division or are within 5 games this year. If he's wrong about them, I don't want him heading up a 3-5 year rebuild.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) False. And as always, just another attempt to force everyone into saying "KW m ust be fired!". Just like every other one of your posts. What more is there than approve/disapprove?
  24. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 22, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I don't think there are more than a handful of people on this board that really love the job KW has done recently. We just look like we do because a certain duo on Soxtalk appear to have axes to grind, forcing us to defend someone we'd otherwise be fairly critical of. Either you approve of the job he's doing or you don't.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Trade Floyd, start Stewart. Strongly worth considering, imo.
