QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) No chance. If the Sox get Youkilis, its going to cost very little in terms of money and/or talent. Unless King Felix is in the picture, Viciedo is going nowhere, and he shouldn't. There's not much point in upgrading 3B if they don't get a SP.
-
Youk will be a bigger help than a lot think, but in the bigger picture it's about getting a starter. Just thinking out loud is their plan Youk at third Danks/Jackson in left and Viciedo as the main trade bait to get a SP?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Don't sit on your ass and say that a month in first place isn't enough to get you to the park and then turn around and b**** that the Sox didn't spend extra money at the trade deadline. Can I b**** about not having players to make deals? -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) How many times do we have to go through this? He's said that his ability to make acquisitions is directly tied to what happens with our attendance. If he said that he's talking half-truths which he does a lot of. He also needs players people want in order to make trades. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) So he has a first place team for a month, no one comes, and that is his mistake. Thinking people should come out after being a month in first place is a mistake. Some standard of excellence their KW. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) The problem lies in the fact that he can't discuss those other revenue sources... I am not in the war room, or the meetings with the investors, but I get the feeling that these things are case-by-case situations. Kenny says "I think I can get this player. It's going to cost us X amount." Jerry then goes to the investors or even into his own personal funding sources and they determine whether it is worth it to make it happen or not. That isn't a scenario you can discuss with the fans, or the media, or that he may even know about at this time. So what he's looking at is what he knows affects their ability to make acquisitions, and at this point in the year, that is gate revenue. It boils down to KW blaming the fans for making his job more difficult instead of owning up to his mistakes. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:15 AM) You just treated an entertainment option (baseball, XBox, etc) the same as something that can be key to the development of a person's career/life. I think you misread his original analogy. The kids are the fans, the parents are the front office, the x-box and garbage disposal are the players. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) Because going to a baseball game is a great career move that can pay you back 5x in terms of total lifetime income. As usual, no idea what it is you are saying. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) Do either of you two have children? If your kids ask you for a new XBox do you feel obliged to tell them that you have the money because you could possibly take a loan out or put it on your credit card or pay for it with cash intended to fix the garbage disposal? Just because it is possible that you could scrape up the money in a pinch does not mean you are lying to them when you say "I don't have the money for a new XBox right now." Awful analogy. A better one would be a parent having the money to send kid to college, but making him decide to either go to college and pay for it himself or not go at all. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) I just don't understand how you could be a CPA and not see the different budgets that are in play here. I am sure each area has a budget and they try to stay within those budgets. Signing Soler would probably come out of a different budget than the one intended for making in-season acquisitions. I know our Organization gets creative with money, and will pull from one area to another and vice versa, but I am not sure what you would have them do. Signing Soler is probably based on payrolls in the future and not necessarily money they have right now from which to draw against. How could you possibly not get your mind around that as an accountant? If they can make a $25M offer to Soler they have more money than any of us think. Doesn't matter what "budget" they are pulling it from. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) It's really pretty simple: the Sox seemingly lack the resources to make a big in-season acquisition. They don't have a strong enough farm system to trade prospects to another team and have that team pick up most of the player's remaining salary (ie: Casey Blake for Carlos Santana). Thus, they need to be able to have the available payroll to bring in someone with 6-8 million remaining on their contract this year, and the attendance-to-date is making that difficult. After a few days to think about Kenny's comments, I have no problem with him calling out the fan base. Yes, the prices are too high, and you can tell they're in panic mode to try and fix some of the pricing issues. How many guys are on the trade block that the White Sox have the desire to trade for, the prospects to trade for, but can't afford? That list is real short if it exists at all. KW talking out of his a** again. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) Yeah, well, if we had such a solid farm system we probably would be finishing in last every year. Those are usually the teams with the great farm systems. We should be coming off multiple post-season and WS appearances by having what most regard as the worst farm system then -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) They are not excuses. They are facts. We have plenty of talent on this team to win the division. But if the fans expect an upgrade, then they need to put their money where their mouths are. I see nothing wrong with saying that. Then KW needs say I can't trade for Cole Hamels because he costs too much. It's simply not true. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) There's no doubt in my mind that last year's terrible and unlikable team has had an impact on the fan base. If the Sox can stay in contention all year, it would really help the excitement surrounding the organization. Sale is something to get excited about don't know about the rest going forward after this year. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) The Sox have been offering a groupon today for patio parties for about 8 games. Reasonably priced There are zero sold so far. Considering what kind of crap people buy on groupon, that's quite a feat. There is something very bad going on with White Sox perception. How many games have you been to this year?
